I am sure 4chan will come back from this, but it will be much worse than it is now because the few good people left will finally have gone to find somewhere better. And that's saying something considering they've been bleeding "good" users since like 2005.
This is to 4chan what Christchurch was to 8chan. It's going to come back, but in a far worse state and the site will stagger on for a few more years before dying.

It'll probably back eventually, but a good chunk of the already dwindling organic users will be gone for good after this. The refugees have realized most forums and even painfully slow altchans are still preferrable to the state of the site pre-hack and God knows whatever the conditions will be when it's back. Just a wasteland of feds, Indians, and bots writhing on top of each other.
This could be a good thing if the administration actually caters it. I would think think mostly newfags and middlefags would leave while the faithful may stick around unburdened by the 2016 era influx of users that altered 4Chan into becoming what it is now. This kind of reminds me of what happened when Tumblr banned porn. If degenerates can't goon, they'll drop off hard and find a new place real fast and abandon the old place regardless of the reason. It may have taken 6 years but The Rebellion may still win out in the end. Never forgetii.

My thinking too. This isn't the case of a blown cylinder. The entire engine block has caught fire and melted out of the frame. To get the site back up, it sounds like they will have to do a complete rebuild. But how do you just update something that hasn't been updated in 15 years?
Presumably there have been updates to the base software that runs the forum, that 4chan just never implemented because laziness. Do those first. Also find out the exact exploit they used to rape the site.

4chan was never good. It's been the honeypot of all honeypots for the feds since god knows when and will continue to be an FBI/CIA/NSA asset no matter what.

Watching 4chan collapse in real time was truly a euphoric experience. I have a feeling that once they manage to bring back the site, it will be unusable for days, as the amount of shitposting would skyrocket while the jannies' morale is at an all time low.
I don't even know if they'll be able to. The site's internal workings are a mess, they have two decades of spaghetti code & (supposedly, correct me if I'm wrong) copied 2ch shit to deal with. There was no contingency plan in place likely, because nothing on this scale has happened in 21 years. It's absolute bonkers, I don't even know how to put it into words. Imagine all that steam built up just exploding into chaos and death.

Man, I made this account yesterday, just in time.
Been using 4chan for most of my life now, and it's strange to see the site finally take a real blow.
I think this pretty much cements the sharty as the new torch bearer of imageboard culture.
Any of my /p/ niggas around here by the way?
I'd argue its far worse now

This is the most devastating thing about the hack, not the hack itself or the site being down but the confirmation that everything is outdated as shit and nobody could be bothered to maintain the site ever since Hiro bought it, and information about the specific ways in which the site is shit. There's undoubtedly plenty of other exploits just waiting to be discovered, Null even spitballed about one himself:

This is not going to be the last time 4chan is compromised. They're not competent enough to do the full rewrite from scratch that 4chan needs.
Yeah I think 4chan is cooked, fellas. It's been a good ride.
It's actually astounding this didn't happen sooner, given the circumstance.
I wonder who is going to step in and fill the gap in the market?

Tranny jannies got what they deserved. The site itself was on the fast track to becoming reddit. /v/ especially.
But
All of the last good places on the site where people discussed their hobbies and niche franchises got fucked over too like /vg/ and /m/ and there is literally no alternative that is not ubergay and fast enough, hope it comes back in some way.

Yeah building upon almost a decade of technical rot is an unenviable task, even for a motivated developer.
I'd be surprised if there is even one person genuinely willing to take on that nightmare.
They'd genuinely be better off forking Lynxchan and running with that from now on.
