Kinda torn between hoping it comes back, and hoping it stays dead.
On one hand, there were some circles and threads I actually liked frequenting compared to similar circles on other platforms.
On the other hand, the mass exodus of 4chan Regulars to other sites would be really funny to witness. Like a reverse of the Tumblr landwhale migration.

It needs to come back. If only because it served as a place the most annoying and spam happy retards could infest without detriment. It was the trash bin that sites like this and countless others dumped their trash into once they and all their socks were banned. Even the most unhinged retards could find a home on /pol/ where others would turn them away.

I don't know if it's dead forever, but things look grim. From my understanding of the situation:

• 4chan probably doesn't have a dedicated sysadmin
• The hacker got shell access, meaning they could read/modify any data they wanted
• 4chan might not have ANY backups
• Due to the above, there is no way to restore data AND kick out the soyteen who got shell access
• The only solution might be to nuke the entire website and rebuild it from scratch (meaning complete loss of data)
• That's assuming anyone who works on 4chan has the expertise to rebuild it (which is also unlikely)

I'd also like to add to this post. If this was an exploit from an old vulnerability, that means no one working at 4chan was patching vulnerabilities or updating security. That's a really bad sign.

I'll even miss the storytimes, even though they were a sign of late stage decline of the board since they only appealed to nostalgiafags like me. I'll miss discovering masterpieces like Baki and enjoying them together with my fellow /a/utists.

I'm not even a hardcore animefag, but I liked how light-hearted the board felt while at the same time being (relatively) high speed. It was entertaining, at the very least. Very good when going to the shitter.

There's always Christmas and the various yearly watchalongs, which I'm sure people will still go to after /a/ dies.

Am I just looking back with rose tinted glasses or are the late zoomers on 4chan significantly more fucked up than the generation before? I recall back when I was on the site regularly most people had a pornography addiction, but they hated troons and generally wanted to be left alone. Shit like guro was relegated to the most degen corners of the site, and anyone I knew irl that was an anon was fairly normal, just autistic and edgy.
