Im sure it's ironic for some but ive been into pony since 2012 and /mlp/ off and on for most of that time and promise you plenty of people are really into it, something about the show's early seasons and the community around it was really magical in a way that will never be replicated. I have a pretty shit memory so much of the time for me is extremely hazy but I wouldn't trade the time spent with these fags for anything in the world.

If my autist history serves, it all started from the shock of a good toon when there was a drought at the time, then it turned to irony because pink pastel ponies pissed people off, then like all irony, it soon became genuine for better or worse (generally worse). Not entirely sure if I'm correct on that though.

I knew a grown ass man who liked the show, he was legitimately autistic but not the worst, I saw it become a trolling thing for him once everyone else started to get annoyed by it. I've never watched it and I'm sure I never will, it's too poisoned in my mind, but it must have been pretty good for the absolute tsunami it caused.

the mlp show had high production standards in certain ways. Scenes were arranged using some very old compositional techniques and animation cues where every possible element of the scene conformed to certain universal constants.

If you're familiar with the basic concepts of "sacred geometry", it's that. Look how the objects in this scene are arranged. This is a signal to an educated audience that says "I know what I'm talking about, here's the proof". It means what this guy is about to say is a Big Deal.

MLP uses the same scene composition techniques on multiple levels. Internally to each character there are multiple levels of this. Every body part and every amalgamation of body parts has this.

But it's not just the scene composition and art style. It's also in the keyframing and animation frames. Different elements of the animation in a shot are animated at different frame rates, things flash at the precise correct time, characters blink in-tune to the rhythms of their speech.

But it's not just the video. It's in the audio as well. On multiple levels.

No, rather it's a sad and bizarre symptom of how the internet plays with people's minds. You see the same tendencies in grown men obsessed with Pokemon, as another user pointed out. The tranny virus is just another symptom of the same. There is a certain obsessive reward-loop that is being hijacked to spawn these degenerated communities. A certain detachment from all normalcy leaves them without any touchstones grounding them, and they fly off into the stratosphere.

I think this was amplified with parasocialism, especially with vtubers. At some point I stopped trying to figure out if posters were ironically or unironically obsessed with the streamers.
