I hate webp because every time I save one from here on my phone it shits itself and distorts the filename into some shit where it tries to attach the url ahead of the filename and change the extension to seven digits and a _ so I have to go in and manually erase all of that to set it back to .webp

It's not that .webp is necessarily a bad image format, it's that little to no sites and apps support it.
Imagine a world where .webp was supported like .png and .jpeg, as well as videos (.webm maybe) with transparency/alpha channels being supported on stuff like apps, browsers, and editing programs.
Premiere Pro doesn't support .webm video exports unfortunately, but does After Effects support .webm video exports?

Is there any reason to hate webp other than it's simply not supported by all applications/software yet? Isn't it actually superior for load times? From my understanding it's kinda like the sequel to jpeg as it's lossy, but not nearly as bad as the original.

Am I crazy? Have we just become retarded olds yelling at clouds while the future is for the youth? Is there a reason to hate it other than "It doesn't work on my phone yet" or "It isn't loaded into my image editor yet"? Is the future of image boards webp and we're just autists that hate change? I'd like to know!

The sequel is jpegXL the superior format. webp is okay at best.
