Seeing users on there actively question the site's obsolescence is amazing, gives the same vibe as looking at how the USSR fell apart.

I will never understand this mindset of treating TTRPGs like video games.
I won't judge people for not being strong roleplayers or being shy, that's totally okay. Different strokes for different folks. But like holy shit you have a medium who's limits really can stretch so much farther than almost any other, and some people really just want to play Skyrim or Mass Effect.
 
4chins is back in a gimped state for the moment, looks like they were able to keep all existing threads (at least on wsg) and that they might be using some old code because i only had to wait 2 minutes to post

I think gamers are going back to what they were doing in the golden age (or they need to), back when communities were just invite only clans with their own ventrilo/teamspeak. Instead everything is matchmaking, single server MMOs, and the tools to setup matches otherwise are shit (not dedicated clan run servers). Multiplayer gaming got regressive as fuck. All you need today is 3 bros and a schedule where you can all be on at the same time and you can run a full multiplayer MW5 campaign or a Total War Co-Op campaign or tons of other good games that just don't have great online social tools setups (like battle.net) or lists of dedicated clan run servers.
Gaming was maldeveloped to centralize everything. Back when every clan had its own server in whatever game was their main the internet and gaming was healthy as fuck.
The culture wars turned everything into a dumpster fire. I think a lot of gamers are just letting it burn its contents at this point and staying away from the heat. Its tough to build clans now. And since the culture wars shits up any community where gamers would likely be, you can't really build your clan out of a place like this either, because its an opsec problem.
