He did work at google. I heard he lives in japan now and just wants to keep a low profile. He doesn't do anything weird and acts quite normal to fans that recognize him. A friend worked at google for a year to just make a ton of money which apparently is an option (he had a longer project he cared for, but he could go to google as a very talented coder which let him get the bag). As long as you don't piss it away on retarded california hypes (like a juicero) you probably can just fill your pockets and live off of it for a long time.

He stayed there almost exactly five years before leaving, whether he was being let go or just got tired of getting assigned to doomed bullshit like Google+. That's long enough for his stock options to have vested and he could very well be a multimillionaire at this point. I'd be surprised if he isn't.
