Can’t get past Error 01 in the opening prologue cutscene. Average modern gaming.

Edit: if anyone is having similar problems, updating video drivers, running in full screen not borderless, and proton-GE solved all my issues with getting it to run.

After getting hands on I can confirm that the game supports my x52 hotas out of the box even with steam input disabled. Your mileage may vary though as I remember people who use VKB sticks having trouble getting their sticks working for 7.

If you bought the deluxe edition the premium pass voucher is in your inbox in the online segment, the menus are a bit obtuse like the reviews said but it's not too much of an adjustment.

Scrambles are on a timer but one and done. Seems pretty tough but you get rewards for doing it.

Haven't done one of the boss battle things that seem similar but different.

Scrambles/boss give 30-50 flat battle pass xp, each multiplayer match gives flat 15 regardless of mode/score.

Main driver of battle pass is daily/weekly challenges that give between 20-60 points. Play 3 matches, use a multi-role fighter 5 times, 5 matches with a plane under X cost, etc.

Not sure how the store currencies work, but since you can't see the plane in the cockpit anyways and you're so far from players you usually can't see them anyways cosmetics stuff seems pointless outside cutscenes, besides colored missile smoke trails.

Edit: the matches feel kinda short, when the timer hits zero it just sort of ends. But they're action heavy. Getting shot down respawns you after about 20 seconds.

Suit up. Add a flight helmet with a mask to your pfp.

I will kill every last Sotoan man, woman, and child.

You should be doing that anyways.

The plot opening with 'you must be racist against Satoans, press A to become a racist' is really a remarkable touch of getting into character.

Is there probably a twist later? Sure. Should we raze Satoa to the ground and decimate their civilian population? Yes, its the only way to keep the filthy sand dwellers in their place. Back to the stone age.

Online doesn't seem to work for linux based on the steam forums. Single player mostly works on proton experimental.

I will report back later this week once it unlocks for me.
Can confirm singleplayer works on Linux fine with performance comparable to Windows (as far as I can tell). The online hub world does work. I could make a character and walk around and stuff. The game errors out and kicks me back to the hub world when attempting to even load a practice sortie. Not surprising. Online in 7 didn't work on Linux either. I'm pretty sure it's because the developer didn't enable Linux support in their easy anti-cheat setup.

Oh wow lol. The online lobby and sortie system was wholesale recycled from Gundam Battle Operation 2. Which, now that I've typed that, I'm not really sure that I expected anything different from Namco Bandai.

Loving the campaign so far though.

I noticed this immediately and it was why I was concerned about the online aspect. So far I've been pretty on the mark about the online and you are 100% going to get ass raped dry and hard as time goes on because you don't have upgraded planes and parts. Have fun playing the more PvE oriented mode until you level your plane and unlock parts.

So, I've marathoned the campaign up to mission 20, which if the leaked mission count is true then I'm 2/3 of the way through the game. The planes feel very heavy, slow roll and not a lot of pull normally, but if you throw it into high G they suddenly pull at like 3x the rate. It makes it very hard to get good angles on targets, especially for guns (which I was already kind of bad at lmao). Missions seem kind of easy, not a whole lot of huge missions yet but maybe they pull out all the stops in the end stage of the campaign. The two SPW choices are neat but the lack of targets in a mission kind of kneecap how cool that system could have been. If we had AC6 scale missions I'd love this feature, but as it is it's kind of whatever.

Performance issues have been minimal but I have had some slowdowns (typically in cutscenes, but a couple of the explosion effects have also stuttered). I'm running a 5900x and 7900 xtx at 1440p, all ultra settings except for upscaling, which is set to balanced instead of quality. Game does at least look good. I'd rate the story/narrative thus far as being better than ace combat 7, but not as good as 4. Probably about as good as 0, but longer and with not as bombastic presentation. It's not as dumb as 5's story, though the wingmen are close to as bad as 5's. I like Coster the best because he talks the least. Your NPC allies are usually tolerable too.

Oh, I had a fucking flashback the moment I logged in. Only thing different is the way currency and supply drops work. The whole presentation of AC Online feels very unpolished.

Yeah, everything feels a bit heavier than it did in 7. Hopefully the speedier endgame planes and super planes feel a bit less sluggish. I don't necessarily mind how things handle so far, but I definitely want to feel like I was hauling ass like I was by the and of 7.
