It surprises me how many people don't know how to just chase a plane
Did people have trouble with this or something? S ranked it on the first go. It was pretty cool. Makes me wonder just how fast I need to be to shoot down the Ladon in 07.
After running it again with better planes, I can attest it's a matter of not having the right gear for the job. Any decently fast plane like the F-15 can keep up with it, the issue I was having was that I was using the Mig-31 to chase it and it can't keep up with turning. Anything with SASMs or even 4AAMs just mow through all the shit on the Ladons, the big issue is just having planes that can keep up with it in turns and deal enough spread damage.

My stance on them being faggots still stands though. Fuck those guys.

I've come to the conclusion that whether you like M15 or not determines whether you're a tasteless secondary shitter or not.
I think it's okay, but also taking Pulse Lasers out of 8 and shoving them in my face due to 8's plane roster / usable SPWs being very bland. Mihaly's "look at me while I turn really tight and be invincible" is a shitty boss design. I'll have to try it again with any Fifth Gen Fighter
(except the X-40 it's embarrassing 2 games in a row the superplanes are shit.)

I tried it again with a 5th gen fighter and it was better. It's not a good designed boss fight. I need shoot one of them down in mission 8.

So I've just recently finished the game, and man... I don't know how to feel. I like the physics of flying, the weight and how high G requires actual skill, the gameplay is great. But other than that? its eh. The story felt like nothing was happening until the very end, I hated how npc's kept saying "wow your flying skills is just like Cope!" yet that Sotoan (Sand nigger terrorist) never once shot at his fellow "man".

The wingmen sucked, all of them besides Kate. I legit did not give two shits about them. Baxter is a Biology teacher, Coster likes music, and Tasha is a stunt women/some yuke fly girl? the other cast is also dog shit boring, AWACs is some faggot British poofter who has a special interest in poker, the XO is.. well.. an XO. D.D is just a fag. I really don't know how to feel about the cast. AC7's cast has soul, yet this cast can't voice act for shit. Look at AC6, with its heavy carrier misson. That is absolute PEAK Ace Combat voice acting, but this? Soulless, boring, melodramatic for the sake of being melodramatic.
By the end of the game, after Baxters death, I thought that they would kill your wingmen one-by-one, but that would be too risky/kino.

Lets talk about the retaking of Theve. Yes the land ship is cool, but its so early game that it ruins the other battleships. I disliked it, it felt dis-earned because of how early that mission was, I know I keep harping on about AC6. but that game was legit PEAK. It understood when to have the peak mission was at. This game? It was too early and felt un-earned.

Gameplay feels great, but missions? They played way to safe, and has given me the most unrememberable missions to date. Whilst it does have certain missions that are good, doesn't mean you'll remember them next week. The carrier system was useless in the end, the game probably at most had 5 missions that forced you to use carrier based aircraft is embarrassing. But, one thing I will say, this game was fucking easy. This may be the easiest AC game in the series. I felt like Mr. X whilst manhandling those final fights.

The call backs did suck. Whilst it was nice to have Rose and Nagase mentioned, I do feel it would had been way cooler to reference other characters from AC7 since it was the most recent in the timeline. But for some reason I expected the Space elevator to be ran by Pixy, it didn't help too that AC Zero was a pre order bonus. Whilst I do know its AC tradition to not know what happened to other characters, but really. What happened to Count? Trigger? The other AC7 members? We'll never know since at this point, PA loves to use Nagase.

Music. It sucked. And this to me; is the most important. While some tracks were good, those said tracks lacked the AC DNA. The only tracks I liked were the "normal music; i;e singing, guitars, bass and drums" but opera wise or anything akin? forgettable Hollywood slop. The forced Sotoan theme was the worst, simply for the fact how forced it was.

The best way I can describe it is as this; It feels like an expasion to AC7 story wise. Gameplay wise? its better, besides the fact that the amount of planes is embarrassing but for obvious reasons, they're going to sell those planes as DLC. Would I buy it? Wait for a discount. Unless..

The MP. Its were the fucking meat is at, and why this game is 150 gbs. This is where they put the most effort in, now I do know people have had issues with connections. But personally, I haven't. And it is fun. So unless you want to enjoy the MP at its peak? Wait for a discount. Also, Kate is best girl.

I didn't mind the characters that much, they were all kind of basic but they only actively annoyed me a handful of times so I'd still rate them above 5's wingmen. AC7 benefits from having most of its cast only present for a third of the game at most, so excluding Count (who is largely inoffensive) no one ever really gets an opportunity to wear out their welcome. But AC7 was also obviously a patchwork mess with regards to its story and mission structure. With games like 8, though, if you dislike one or more of the characters they're going to be hanging around pissing you off all game.

I've long since given up hope that we'll reach the heights of AC6's missions tbh. That game didn't sell well (through no fault of its own really) and the community was weirdly dismissive of it for years (they say a cringe line! that's never happened in ace combat before), so we're probably lucky to get any acknowledgement of it at all. I am kind of peeved that they brought back mid-mission landings for two missions and it's only useful for one of those. Like, we can't get large scale multistage operations (the principal thing that made AC6 so good), but we'll bring back DOG FIGHT MODE from assault horizon for a couple of sequences. That's what everyone wants.

I'll gave bamco some credit re the lack of difficultly, that may end up working in their favor since this game looks like it's set to stomp AC7's sales. It's at a peak player count on steam that is like 5x what AC7's was, and online I'm seeing a lot of console players mixed in with the PC guys so I suspect it's doing pretty good there too. So maybe all of the newfriends who can't fly will get eased into the series. I just hope that this isn't going to be a trend of making the games progressively easier, since 7 was pretty underwhelming in that regard too.

Personally I loved AC8. It feels like 7 but elevated. My god the performance is absolute ass but with UE5 I guess it’s to be expected. I don’t think it usurps any of my favorite ACs (3, 04, Zero) but I think this is a step in the right direction for the franchise. The first person cutscenes were a nice touch to show the story on the ground. The pink foid charmed me but Kate is the real best girl here.

shoutout to mr @I AM RETARDED! for the kiwi pilot

No it isn't and no they didn't. They put a minimal amount of effort into the multiplayer. It's just Infinity but even shittier somehow. The missions are way too short, scrambles and emergency sorties are way too rare, and the plane leveling is insanely unbalanced and tedious. Co-Op Assault in particular is basically ruined by LAAMs. Whichever team has more long range A2A missiles wins, almost every time. For how much they were hyping up the multiplayer it's way too barebones. The multiplayer seriously needed longer missions that people could play cooperatively rather than shitty 5 minute point races where there's not anywhere close to enough targets for all players to actually feel engaged and a PvPvE mode where you get your asshole ripped apart by an autistic faggot with a max level plane who's been playing online for 12 hours a day for the last week straight.

Also it doesn't work on linux. A true crime!

Co-Op Warfare is funny because it always becomes a 3v4 and whoever decides to just ignore the dogfight and smash stuff winds up having a the highest score. I would up with a retardedly high score and kill count doing that lol

Decided to get into the series after watching a friend play through AC8 and decided to play through them in release order. After playing just a bit of the two arcade predecessors just to get some context, I dove into AC1 and had a blast tearing through it over the course of a night. Mission 15 was rough until I figured out the trick to handling the ground defenses.

I'm not really a flight sim sort of guy, but I found the game to be perfectly playable, and I think the format is nice because, as I now realize, flying is fun and emergent in its possibilities (up to a point), and it's really fun being handed the basic controls and having to figure out the tricks to maneuver more efficiently one revelation at a time.

So far, AC2 is really impressive, it's definitely one of those games where they squeezed a lot more out of the hardware, and I think that's one of the things I really miss most about when developers couldn't just make everything they wanted without having to worry what's possible with the tech. You could really see the change between the beginning and ending of a console gen based on nothing more than the distance devs could squeeze out of it.

I've actually had quite a lot of fun in recent years diving into series I know very little about from the first entry rather than jumping in to some arbitrary midpoint in the series. The less you know, the more room you have to be surprised, and it's always much easier to move forward in a series than move back, if that series has grown more polished over time, since you haven't been "spoiled" by how much more convenient the newer ones are. It's just about the only way left that I can rekindle that starry-eyed wonder of seeing how technology can improve and be impressed by generational leaps the way we all used to.

I really recommend trying it out with some series in your backlog you know of but little about. Go in blind, grit your teeth and hang in there, because getting onto the next title is a sweet joy, and I firmly maintain that the shared suffering of getting through "that one bastard level" is what really unites people around an experience.

I have no place else to complain about this but the duel bomber fleet defense is total cancer. Other than that the game has been wonderful. Needed to chase it with a f16 amped up on every speed add on I had. But still didn't have enough damage despite lobbing literally every missle I had. Needed to do dip down to veteran. I suspect I should've had something else or was supposed to grind more?

Sounds like you need a faster jet like a 15 or 18e/f

Yeah every dodge roll would put you out of range from bleeding too much speed and didn't have those unlocked yet so dropped to veteran to be able to ignore the machine gun damage so I was able to keep Pace.

Yeah that one is pretty hard if you play with slower planes. Maybe try the MiG 31?

I was able to get it in a F15 on veteran. They also go in a loop so you can kinda wait for them at certain points to catch up to you then fire everything you can while they're in range.

I did just finish the whole game and it was fantastic. I'll probably write more once I've had a chance to digest. I did have the funniest thing happen during the shadow 22 dogfight.
I had a lock on one of them, but his wingman came out of nowhere to and performed a cobra right in front of me. He ate my QAAM at point blank range and died. I also learned the replay viewer only captures 30 minutes of a level, otherwise I'd get a screenshot of that. Unfortunately that happened after 30 minutes into the mission.
