I'm thoroughly enjoying the game so far.

I hope the next Ace Combat game is the Sotoa-Yuktobania war so we thoroughly bomb the flying fuck out of Sotoa proper. Total Sotoan death.

Story wise, I would understand the separatist units working with Sotoa because, you know, rods from God and giant land battleships, but the fact retards like Green flight in Two on the Run are....naively trusting of Sotoa, after the shit they pulled at the start of the war, is beyond painful.

That's where the missing context from the preorder materials or whatever really hurts. The game sort of undermines itself by not providing enough context on why places like Newfield Island decided to just peace out. If you take into account how they been chafing under FCU rule for some time, it's not too difficult to make the leap that they decided to jump to the other side once Theve got blitzed and taken one month into the war (which is frankly a staggeringly rapid pace of advance, when you consider the distance between Theve and Rocky Island, their initial beachhead).

Yeah it's peak. That ending was beautiful.

If it's not at least nominated for GOTY or more appropriately Best original score at one or more awards show then the industry truly is completely beyond saving.

I kinda want prequel missions of the invasion of the land battleship coming ashore and the first strikes of the spears. The art book that @Pixy posted had the directer talk about the fear of stuff coming out of the sea onto the land, but in the game, we never see the land battleship do that. It would have made a great set-piece to be fighting a fleet that suddenly drives up into Theve. The game was incredibly disconnected from Zero Hour, I expected a mention of the FCU Billhook or maybe a news broadcast from that lady in the game.

This made me weep, Cope's messages from the promised land got me. The story hits just the right "batshit but emotional" bullseye only Ace Combat can pull off. It helps that the soundtrack is full of Daredevil-level bangers.

Having a video game live up to, then exceed, my expectations is such a fucking weird feeling in 2026.

I'm probably too harsh on 5, but also it is deserved due to the backloaded good missions. Assault Horizon would actually be pretty decent, unfortunately Dogfight Mode is a thing that exists.

When Hortus Regis Alti kicked in at 29, it all made sense what Kobayashi was so nonchalant about Everflow getting a lot of buzz.

I'm just learning there was a live action miniseries prequel to AC8 lmao. Was it any good?
The story for whatever reason makes me miserable. It's the standard affair but all the talk of hope and coming together is defeated by the fact that this game is set in Usea. Since 2005 there's been non-stop wars, and coups. Then in about 10 years there will be another massive war.
I remember a time when the Ace Combat wiki had a lot of fanon hiding in there, and one bit that stuck with me was Sapin colonizing Usea during the age of sail because of all the Spanish sounding names for places.

If Usea is actually Latin America the never ending political instability makes a lot of sense

It's dripping with the same camp as those old HALO trailers used to have. So yes, it's good imo.
Prequel had the appropriate amount of cheese. It seems like there was a slight disconnect in how the Sotoans are portrayed, but it's still neat. The biggest connection is that the mom of B.Tan from the Jackpot Squadron shows up, really.

I want a Savian campaign now where they give you contract options at the start of each mission. "Our economy relies on mercs like us."
I view them as a nod to project wingman given that it's all but confirmed that Cascadia becomes a mercenary nation after the events of frontline 59 and the campaign.
Especially seeing as they're a sovereign state within Erusea which has the Cascade ocean to the north on the latest Strangereal map we have.

I just finished replaying 25, and if they are likely going for a successor to Zero, I want a Savian MC. PA could incorporate some of the branching operation paths from X and 6 in 9 if they go completely Savian. Execution wise he'll likely be Cipher, and Monarch thrown into a blender. For the 3 missions they were in 8, they're really damn cool.

I think this is a little less strong of evidence for a PW reference but people were pointing out that the Hand of Hope emblem looks similar to Monarch's crown emblem. So now I hope someone who gets the chance to interview project aces asks them about project wingman.

I honestly had to stop and laugh when they kept repeating that line in M24/25. It certainly diluted whatever shock impact Queen's "death" had.

That said, maybe it's just me, but it feels like the Savian mercs were a cut above the native Sotoans in those missions too.

I doubt any of those mercs are going to be as fun as Kaiser and Galaxy, though.

What's up with the intermittent robot voice on the last mission.
The full voicelines have been ripped.
