If I want to unlock the F-22/F-35 is the best way just spamming mission 16?
Yeah, the payout is alright and the mission can be spammed in like 4 mins once you get the rhythm down. The locations of the ships are pseduorandom, so once you find one you'll know where the rest are, and you have enough time usually after killing the last one to set up behind it (relative to the space elevator) and wait for the drones to launch, then gun/msl/4aam/6aam/whatever the drones during the launch phase when they don't maneuver. I didn't really bother with credit grinding, but that's about the way to do it if you want to get a plane quickly and/or grind out the 25 million MRP achievement in the shortest time possible.

edit: according to this guy there's only three patterns for the ship's spawns, which sounds about right. It also shows a good flow for the mission once you're familiar with it.

Cope being the Ghost of Kiev for propaganda reasons makes sense, I guess, but was he ordered not to engage enemies or was that just his personal decision? I think it was the latter but why would command allow that?
DD probably didn't care, and Cope actually staying alive versus getting himself killed put him heads and shoulders above the rest who were already KIA by the time they scooped you out of the ocean. If you listen to Cope's banter post shootdown he mentioned that there used to be four flights on the Endurance not four weeks prior. (The missing King and Jack flight, if I were to guess.) The game was very definitely suggesting that he was the best of the worst the FCU had remaining, and they were probably fucked long term anyway if the standard mute AC protagonist didn't just wash up on deck like a gift from God one day.

I just wonder because it doesn't take very long for the Endurance to start sending you out on important missions that Cope's flying wouldn't have helped in, like the liberation of Theve and major strikes against land battleship related installations. I think the opening mentioned Cope had been flying for three months so maybe there was breathing room for a while, but Joker would have been useless as a pure propaganda flight from Mission 3 onwards.

If the FCU still had a normal sized air force, they'd have just sent other planes out instead right? But Ace Combat loves the coming back from the brink story, so there weren't any squadrons available besides just Queen. If Cope had lived, would they really keep the strategy unaltered when it became all hands on deck?

Now I'm picturing Cope just flying in a circle over Theve while his HUD pings him about a damaged LCAC twice a second.

@Pixy Yo buddy, what does the art book have to say about the Savians? They added a lot of detail to Sotoa and the FCU so I figure they might have something in there at least.
Besides the insignia there is nothing else about Savia, sorry. I posted all I had a couple pages ago, the rest is just AAW's previous content.

Rest of the AC8 section from AAW; cutscene concept art as well as background details on locations and weapons.

The English translation sure has tons of errors. Some, like the shuttle's "solar power plant" are just weird mistranslations, but there's one really weird line about North Point that is supposedly not present at all in the original, claiming it was "long part" of Yuktobania. I found someone making a comparison with the original text. I wonder what the translation process was like, hopefully someone will do a proper one at some point.

I knew those (((North Pointers))) couldn't be trusted :o

something broke and I now get a black screen and crash on launch.
Both Proton hotfix and Proton experimental.

Thanks to the power of AI, I was able to fix. I realized it wasn't an AC8 error when I went to play project wingman and it instantly crashed the same way.

For those on Linux who might have the same issue on Artix with openRC. I ran steam via the console and checked the logs as I tried to launch the game.
It narrowed down to these events
x11drv: Can't allocate handle for display fd
x11drv: Can't store handle for display fd

It told me
This usually occurs when Wine/Proton runs out of file descriptors (ulimit -n) or when Wayland/X11 display handles fail to bind under recent Mesa updates.
So I checked with
$ulimit -Hn
and got 4096 (very low apparently)
Edited a conf file
sudo nano /etc/security/limits.conf
and added
* soft nofile 524288
* hard nofile 524288
root soft nofile 524288
root hard nofile 524288
Then in sudo nano /etc/rc.conf added
rc_ulimit="-n 524288"

One reboot later and it now runs without insta-crash. Something in an update must have broke and reset to minimum. Funny thing, I was playing Project Reclaimer with no issue, but it's also a much less demanding game (halo 3 came out 19 years ago....)

Anyway, I blame Enso Order.

Got to Shadow 22's duel yesterday and god damn that was some struggle. Maybe I was just doing it wrong but taking down his wingmen was already an ordeal but Shadow 22 himself was harsh. Maybe it was my plane because I choose the SU 35 (multiple missile for the bomber swarms) and had the wrong parts. I am sorely missing the pulse laser from AC 7 since that was easier to use to blast most opponents to shreds.(not to mention the big ammo storage)

Not surprising actually. Toprak himself has some magic bullshit plot shield that magically renders your missile tracking inert while having infinite flares. That said if you're good at using the machinegun he gets schooled nearly immediately.

I got the feeling the game took pity on my third reload. I flew right into the Shadow squadron unleashed my 6AAM, followed by HVAAM and 2 standard missile to boot and that killed one Shadow immediately and I think I hit one or two of the others. I swear in an earlier mission where you fight against those with Flares you are advised to just spam missiles to overwhelm them. Maybe that's expected here too. Or I should have taken the F-22 which I would say has the better missiles
