Is anyone on the forum adopted? I was adopted as a baby. I found some adoption registry site years ago and signed up but forgot about it. I started to be curious about any family medical issues I may have running through me. I actually got an email from it but was very skeptical. The lady sent some pictures of herself and it was pretty obvious I look like her. We wound up submitting some stuff to the state I was born (it was done through social services) and they sent back information indicating that she was my mom. It was neat because the packet included a bunch of hand-written forms she filled out just before I was born from back then. Since then we email here and there.

The sad part is that about two years before I found her I lost my real (adopted) mother. So it's kind of like I get to have another mom, but not really. It turns out I have two half-sisters.

Oh, my mother was 14 when she got pregnant. The father was 21. When he found out she was pregnant he never spoke to her again. What a classy guy. Hope it isn't genetic.

I was adopted at birth. I've considered looking for my biological parents for medical reasons and to find out if I have siblings.

It's really cool that you were able to find your birth mother.

I'm not adopted, but I like using AncestryDNA and 23andMe to learn about my ethnic makeup and possible relatives. In fact, I've used 23andMe's genetic testing on all members of my immediate family, and it confirms that they are in fact related to me. It's not likely you'd find extremely close relatives, but you're more likely to find numerous 4th or 5th cousins, and that's a start.

It's kind of cool to find out where you are coming from. Though I find that with that comes an entirely new set of drama. I just pretend like I don't care so I don't have to deal with it. I have enough drama in my life.

That's kind of neat. I had to look up what the company is. I hope you don't ask everyone in your life for some spit. :)

I'm not adopted. I grew up in foster care. I have a biological mother, but we don't really have a mother/child relationship. She's someone I get lunch with once in awhile because my biological sibling wants to go out to lunch with her and I go because I'm a good brother to my sibling.

Yeah, I did have to ask everyone for spit. They didn't want to do it and didn't enjoy it, but I had them do it anyway. They got cool information out of the deal!

I've posted this before on different threads, but this is what some of my 23andMe results look like...

Marvin, I cannot begin to understand the difficulty that brought your life. Kudos to you for being a good brother. It shows character that you do that for him/her.

Mourning Dove, thank you for sharing. That is really neat. Can I assume the geographical locations in the results mean that they have seen certain markers in those areas?

The users themselves enter their geographical origins on their profiles so others who see these people in their relatives results can see where they come from. Oh, and here's my ancestry composition via the 23andMe thread. I have trouble uploading the image, so here's the link. http://cwckiforums.com/attachments/ancestrycomposition-png.419/

I'm not really adopted, but my mother was and the man who adopted her is my grandfather.

I dunno where that puts me really.
