Am I an evil man if I'm happy my new gf is basically an orphan?

Her mom died about a year ago and she doesn't have that much family. There's a part of me that feels relieved because issues stemming from my last girlfriend's family was a big part of why the relationship failed. But I feel like an asshole for feeling relieved at the same time since she lost her mom.

Kind of weird to feel relieved but I can understand why you would over an ex-disaster vector just shutting down. If you were evil, you would feel relieved that this is an opportunity to get your gf to depend on you more. Unless you're some manipulator, you're good G.

Some people even feel a sense of relief when their own parents die. Considering you've had really negative experience with in-laws it makes sense you would feel that way, even if it also seems evil to you to feel that way. As long as you don't consider the mom death a win because you're trying to isolate your girlfriend from the people close to her, you're not evil. I would never admit those feelings of relief to your girlfriend though.
