Double posting because who cares it's Q&A and I don't want to shit up a better thread:
It really is an absurd premise.
First, you're trusting that your votes get counted, accurately, and that fake votes don't.
Second, you're trusting that the count is reported accurately all the way up the chain, by individuals and groups heavily incentivized to do the opposite.
Third, you're trusting the government and media to accurately report that count back to the public
Fourth, you're trusting the electors to vote in accordance with the popular vote, which they may not be incentivized nor required to do.
Fifth, you're trusting the government and media to accurately count and report that.
Sixth, you're trusting a politician to make good on their promises.
Seventh, you're trusting a millionaire to act in the interest of the working class, and against their self interest and the interest of lobbyists.
Eighth, you're trusting an very mortal individual with very mortal loved ones to act against the glownigger mafia praetorian guard that surrounds them at all times.
Ninth, you're trusting that all these same factors didn't affect which candidates received a party endorsement in the first place.
It's all very silly. Every step of the process hinges on expecting truthfulness from politicians, millionaires, and/or journalists. You'd have to be mad to take it seriously.
