Today, as most of you know, I deleted the Lolcow forum. I was upset that this was done without my say, despite by expressed wishes. Normally, I would not apologize in such an instance because I, as your fearless leader, don't wish to show weakness that would undermine my credibility. However, I did something that went against a core principle I have, namely I made a decision based on my emotions at the time instead of using reason.

For that, I apologize for deleting the forum and the posts. Like I said, I was just upset at the time and I didn't really look at the posts, I honest didn't see there was a 30 page thread, if I saw that I would have moved it. I unfortunately can't replace it which is a shame as I didn't mind that thread.

I am however worried about attracting the nefarious element from /cwc/. To be honest, most of you are harmless sort of folks - you just want to talk about Chris, maybe some other lolcows, as you just have a morbid fascination with them. What I don't want is the user from /cwc/ who is looking for the next Chris because they want to tear someone down like what happened with Chris. There's an element that creates an atmosphere where you have to call someone out as a lolcow or else they'll call you out as a lolcow. Remember, most of the lolcows people discuss are people from the CWC community - ADF was discovered from his CWCki edits, The Iconclast was discovered likewise, A-Log was discovered from his rantings on Chris. Then you have /cwc/ers who are now considered lolcows - Van Krause, Medic, Atlus, those guys. The fact most of you are here to talk about Chris, in 2013, would consider you lolcows to most of these people and I don't want to see anyone getting trolled.

However, I remember when someone asked if I could make a General forum and I was against it, namely I was afraid of people making threads about their bizarre fetishes and post fanfiction of their OCs raping some anime characters but that turned out not to be a case. Not to say General is perfect, but it's pretty normal discussion. That said, I will in fact bring back the Lolcow forum. However, like the Chris forum, it will be just for discussion of lolcows and not trolling them. I want to keep Null's nose clean and I can't predict what these other lolcows will do. Also, I don't want dox. One thing I don't like about /cwc/ is that people will do personal army shit by posting the doxs of someone they don't like and calling them a lolcow. I don't want that shit to go down here and likewise, I want to keep our noses clean.

I want to apologize to Null as I did something I normally would never do, namely biting the hand that feeds me.

So once again, I apologize for deleting the forum and in the future, I will wait until I will put off any of these sort of decisions until I can rationally approach the problem or discuss it with the staff. I will bring back the Lolcow forum and you can all post about lolcows other than Chris there. As I've said, I have no problem with you all talking about other lolcows than Chris, it's probably a reasonable thing to do at this point, but like I said, I don't want shit where you're trying to find a new Chris to tear them down.

The idea of deleting the forum was noble at heart, but it was done hamfistedly. I'm going to open a topic in the Administration forum for a new global rule that will help prevent us from succumbing to a sense of community simmilar to that of a *chan or Encyclopedia Dramatica.

I want people to be able to discuss whatever they want. I want it so that if there is a strong demand for facilitation of a certain topic, we can open up a forum for it. What I don't want is people tearing at each other. The end result will likely be a rule where we end up banning anyone who acts too weird or too cruel to really belong on the board.

Keeping out the chan element is fairly self regulating. There is a psychological distinction between chans and forums. Chans in particular have a community element to them that is rather unsavory, no matter what chan you're talking about. With message boards, a higher dialogue is implicitly encouraged.

The thing about chans is that they allow for complete anonymity, so posters get a huge dick over it and start A-Logging like there's no tomorrow.

The benefit of the kusaba style imageboard is also its anonymity. If someone acts retarded on 4chan they can just stop. If someone gets really webbed into this forum and posts personal details and then pisses off some cunt, then really bad stuff can happen as a result.

For what it's worth, I would say a lot of people that post here have either insightful things to say (especially HeSetsMeOnFire and Lumber) or are funny in an intentional way (Tubular Monkey has made me LOL several times). I've read the ED articles on Legi0n and 789Chan and their members/mods and their behavior...I want nothing to do with those people or a community where they are predominant. There's no reason where a forum about Christian Weston Chandler shouldn't be 90% drama-free (except for that coming from CWC himself). And the mods have done an exceptionally good job in keeping the bullshit out so far.

I don't know how decisions get made at the admin level but I think Champthom's views on this and other topics should have a lot of pull since he's Jerkief in Chief. But, since there's a good deal of people interested in other LOLcows (although myself not included), there's no reason why this couldn't be a trial and if it brings in a bad element just get rid of it later.

That seems like a good rule of thumb.
