anyone else think getting the autism reaction sticker to your post is funny?

The existing like system already did that. You had likes, and the people who garnered the most likes were the ones who made simple one liners with no regards to the actual conversation of the thread, usually on the firsts page of an update post. CatParty holds the record by saying something like "Chris is retarded." as the first reply on some recent update.

The like system is a feedback mechanism. If you do something people like, it tells you. The main flaw here is that: if you do something people don't like, you have no idea unless someone takes the time to make a reply and instigate an argument with you, detailing your character flaws. Chat has been ridiculing several people for months because of how they post in the Discussion board, and they're people with the most likes system-wide. With high visibility and zero negative feedback (because nobody is going to sperg hard enough to critique a le funny meme post), you get consistent, patterned behavior that is negatively received yet positively reinforced.

When simmered down to its essence, the like system had these issues.
  • A "Like" is ambiguous. You can empathize with a post about a grievous event, and not like what the post is about.
  • People are "Liked" for various reasons. Someone who is constantly well-thought out and informative is measured the same way against people who are funny.
  • There is no negative feedback to go alongside positive feedback for certain people who cater to the dumb clapping seal demographic.
The only real issue I can see with this direction is that people may get discouraged for no reason. The people who write incredibly long posts will probably get rated "Autistic" just because people don't want to read it. I don't want to encourage this, but I also can't really determine what people want to see. I've tried for ages to get people to post less shittily, but trying to enforce a "you must be less shit" rule is impossible, especially on a forum like this. This may help with that.

There's two possible outcomes here.
  • People are more likely to receive negative ratings for making zinger posts and stupid shit, discouraging shitposting.
  • People are more likely to receive negative ratings for verbosity, discouraging discussion.
From very early reviewing of the system, I've seen the former. I see very little abuse outside of this thread people are carefully applying the ratings.

I'll remove the hiding post feature because in retrospect I don't see any valid use for it. I'll continue to see if I can tweak the rating system.

Sometimes. Other times it can have a sobering effect. It helps you to realize that you're being too special ed and need to check yourself.
i feel that way about the dumb and tmi stickers. sometimes you get one only because the other person is a faggot, but sometimes you really did say something incredibly dumb. same with tmi.

Just remember where you're posting too. Sometimes people will get assmad at you simply because you posted a conflicting opinion in their neighborhood. This forum has a lot of different groups, hence the subforums like Beauty Parlor segregating us. You also could be the most logical person in that thread and still be bombarded with angy reactions. This is why caring about reactions is just ultimately pointless. I think more Kiwis respect those who have integrity for their beliefs anyway.

Usually it's just someone who disagrees with your perspective or opinion. The "disagree" sticker is far more appropriate in those situations but people tend to feel anger when they read a post they don't agree with so they opt for rating it "dumb" "autistic" "lunacy" or whatever to make themselves feel vindicated.

Actually it's extremely hurtful and every time I get an autistic sticker I mope around in a deep depression for a long period of time. So please, spare a thought for the feelings of the person you are about to cruelly inflict with one of the meanest stickers known to man and maybe just give them a nice, ironic heart or chin-rubbing emoji instead.

The funniest ones to me is the informative sticker on posts of people talking about themselves. I feel the powerlevel sticker has a negative connotation, so the informative sticker is a reaction of one with a good sense of humor.
I think it's a fine balance between getting an informative or a tmi sticker. Long personal stories can be alright as long as the poster remembers to keep it fairly general and vague without divulging too much information. Just enough to get the story across without self doxing.
