I'm still on an 11 pro. I used to keep it in a case, then I took it out of the case once and realized that the back had shattered despite the case. I never put the replacement in a case and have dropped it on a hard surface approximately 10,000 times. It's still fine. I use no screen protecter, the front is scratched to hell. I never notice when I'm actually using it.

Simple rules in my head:

Phone never goes in a pocket with keys or shit that isn't soft.
Phone never goes in a shallow/weak pocket.
Phone always mounted on magsafe, or placed nicely on clean tables.

Never needed a case or screen protector. Sure it gets dropped once in a while, once or twice on concrete, but I prefer no bulk and better hand-feel to the risks of having an "unprotected" phone.

No case, no screen protector. Somehow my phones survive.
I've seen phones with cases and screen protectors that are in abysmal condition, then there's my regularly used naked phone that looks almost mint. Many modern phones are extremely durable, there's no need for additional protection typically unless you're a retard that refuses to treat their expensive phone with care. I treat mine with care, and thus it rarely ever gets blemished.

To the people who bought the iPhone 18, how much of a step up do you think it is from previous generations? My mobile plan is due for a renewal and the telco is offering trade-in upgrade deals to the 18 series for the 15-17 series. The offer is always for the last 3 generations only, which means it's my 15's last chance for a trade-in. The only 18s left in stock is the Pro 256GB, which has been more than enough for my 256GB 15 as I store everything on a NAS and prune my apps regularly. The trade-in deal from the 15 takes about $700 off the $1,6k for the base Pro in my freedomless shithole, which is over market value for the 15. My gripe with the 15 is the battery life and bad thermals, especially in sunlight. Is 256GB storage still enough going into the newfangled AI whatever version on the new generation? Is the battery life and vapor chamber aluminum body thermals as good as the Apple fanboys claim to be worth the upgrade?

Asking here because nowhere else on the internet is safe from Apple fanboys and shills. I need a daily driver phone with a stock OS for my bank/payments/digital ID and picked my iOS poison against Googled Android.
If you can find a good deal on a brand new 17 Pro or Pro Max, get that. A year-old Pro will outperform the non-Pro from the current year and this time of year, the carriers and retailers will bribe you to take one. I got a 17 Pro Max on Labour Day weekend and got $300 in Best Buy gift cards and $0 down for putting it on my plan with my provider.

Seriously? I can’t remember ever seeing a person who didn’t use a case for their iPhone.
I seldom use a case ever since getting my first Pro. Just a tempered glass screen protector, since th ePros used to be stainless steel and are now titanium. You could break concrete with one and have no problems.

Since being introduced in September 2016, this month is the ten year anniversary of people wearing airpods making me irritated. They still look like little tampons, too.

Apple upped the price of the 17 Pros so they're almost the same price as the 18 Pros in my region. My very enlightened consoomer goyim opinion is also that the 18 Pro is better because the 17 Pro color options are ugly. The white is the only decent color in that lineup as dark blue = corporate loaner device and bright orange = what the fuck.

How does the fact that everyone uses a case for their iPhone affect the thermal characteristics of each phone?
They're back to aluminum as of the 17 Pro which gets scuffed pretty easily. That got me thinking thoughever. Are the silicone cases everyone uses the actual reason behind the overheating rather than the body material? I have to tardproof my phone with a case and tempered glass because of my slow-in-the-mind moments where I forget there's a phone in my hand, let go and it falls. The case and screen protector are surprisingly clean despite my retardation and the phone itself is good as new. I know people who rawdog their iPhones but they all have AppleCare (and are rich fucks).

You mean how much of a step down? I'm sick of these "modern" models that are too big to be a phone and fit in your pocket easily, yet too small to be a tablet. I want a phone to be phone-sized.

I wouldn't make a bet to eat an iPhone XX Mini or the asses of everyone in the Apple thread, but I'm certain that Apple won't bring back the Mini form factor in the near future. 'Tok zoomers don't like doomscrolling their videos on small screens and boomerfags don't like small screens because they need the max font size on a Pro Max screen to see the text. I have to admit as a former SE owner that I couldn't stand that tiny screen and will never go back from the 6.1"/6.3" screen size. Never had a pair of pants that didn't fit the 6.1" size with room to spare in the pockets either.

iOS 27 is killing the battery on all my phones Jesus. Also Siri AI sounds bad and should probably kill itself. Haven't used it. I don't even know if my old phones even support it.
How does the fact that everyone uses a case for their iPhone affect the thermal characteristics of each phone?
Non-issue. The heat is coming off of very tiny components that operate up to 100⁰ C. It gets spread into the chassis of the phone by thermal conduction. This is the heat dissipation component that actually matters. The chassis itself is cooled by convection with the air. Air is a terrible conductor of heat, probably worse than any case. The case will couple with the air and dissipate heat slowly, just like the chassis would. Apple engineering probably does consider thermal characteristics when designing cases, but I don't think it matters much.

What would be a problem is a case that traps a significant amount of air within it or creates an air gap between the chassis and the case. This would effectively insulate the case from ambient air and allow the trapped air to heat up without enough dissipation to keep the chassis cool. I.e. don't use a case made out of wool, felt, acoustic material, etc. But I think that's pretty obvious.

Additionally, phones are generally designed to dissipate heat primarily through the display rather than the case, for comfort. The case is a component you hold the entire time you use it, so if it heats up the phone could become unusable, whereas the screen you only tap intermittently so it being uncomfortably hot is less of an issue.

That's exactly the one I want (and still have). And yes, I agree they're almost certainly never bringing it back, the shit-for-brains assholes.

The iphone minis were so good. It's a shame I never had a new iphone until the 16 and even that feels overkill in my hands. Being able to reach across the entire device from top to bottom with my thumb was great for usability. I still think the iphone 4s is the best one that Apple ever released.

I'm still on MacOS Sequoia, MacOS 27 looks like shit. i miss when MacOS was more polished in terms of the UI elements and wasn't nearly as bloated and bug ridden. Also fuck the "music" app for not natively working with FLAC for local files even though the OS obviously has no issue with it and quicktime can play it no issue. Apple music is a shit service too. They do on occasion have better masters though but holy shit the UI is terrible. Spotify for all it's issues utterly rapes Apple music in terms of UI and don't even get me started on it being able to control the music playback and volume from basically any device that has it and it using other devices as speakers seamlessly. It's such an intuitive thing I would've expected apple to have it but instead they have this gay work around with using airplay. The podcast app has similar UI issues too. One good thing recently though is apple notes using more Markdown and allowing power users to take advantage of it, sadly it's gatekept to MacOS 27.

If the rumors are true that they're going to go the route of adding a touchscreen to Macbooks I think personally that would be a misstep. I would much, much rather prefer the ability to run MacOS on an ipad like device. Think Surface pro like tablet with multiple thunderbolt ports and those pogo pins and or Magsafe to then use that keyboard + trackpad folio. Will it eat into the air/neo segment for college kids? Probably but will it be a great device and better suited for them? I think so.

Don’t be such a twat.

macOS 27 is free, just fucking upgrade if you want the features instead of whining about wanting those features like a retarded faggot.
