You are indeed allowed to ask serious questions here. Take, for example, the thread about Jews being the chosen people. QA wouldn’t be as funny as it is if serious questions weren’t asked.

The "Ask a stupid question, get a stupid answer." is just a suggestion and default behaviour, but there's no rules on that.
