Sometimes I like to think about how I would justify a certain belief or principle that I don't actually agree with. It is something that I think a lot more people should do. A lot of retardation in politics and the world in general is caused by people who are just so certain of themselves and so unwilling to ever consider what the other side has to say. I also think that it is a great way to break up echo chambers as more often than not it leads people to entirely new perspectives which, in a particularly tight echo chamber, always results in a hilarious Hindenburg-esque collapse.
It is also a great way to shore up your own genuine beliefs as it allows you to better refute opposing views.
Allow me to demonstrate.
Democracy is a failure and should be abolished. Time and time again the vast majority of people have proven that they are far too easily swayed by even the most inept of demagogues. People are singularly impressed by symbols of state and parades of national might so much so that they are unable to imagine a better way of living, that is if they even have the desire to do so. For many the effort of constant attention and protection that democracy requires proves far too much for them. Most people would prefer a set it and forget it system that rarely ever bothers them so long as they are allowed to continue living the same way as they always have.
Che Guevara, Vladimir Lenin and Benito Mussolini all understood that the great masses of the people are more than content to live their lives in exactly the same way as their ancestors did before them, even if that way of life impacted on them negatively, both these men knew that the vast majority of people simply fell short of being worthy to live in a democracy and that any attempt to get them interested in advancing their democracy would be like setting fire to Helium.
We see this today in the decline of the western powers. decades of neglect have allowed the democratic powers of the world to become increasingly corrupt and stagnant. A vote no longer carries with it the power it once had as most politics is now a theatre with the script already written and the audience reaction already precalculated. There is nobody to blame but the people. It was the people who failed to see through the lies of their candidates. It was the people who failed to make up their minds and speak in a united voice. It was the people who failed to become better educated on matters of state and allowed petty tyrants to dictate to them just how things were. The people have certainly gotten what they voted for.
To quote Winston Churchill. The best argument against democracy is a five minute conversation with the average voter.
