In the vast sea of film critics on the internet, not many particularly stand out. Lots of critics share similar opinions regarding films and other matters. Armond White makes an exception.

Armond White has a history of going against the grain of popular opinion when it comes to reviewing films. He was the first professional critic to give a negative review of Jordan Peele’s debut feature Get Out (2017) [A] which ruined it’s perfect (at the time) Rotten Tomatoes score [A]. He’s given negative reviews to acclaimed Oscar winning and nominated films like La La Land (2016) [A], and Parasite (2019) [A] while he also gave positive reviews to otherwise panned films like Dirty Grandpa (2016) [A] and King Arthur: Legend of the Sword (2017) [A]. Armond White believes Zack Snyder and Michael Bay are two of the greatest filmmakers in the modern era. He’s black and gay, but also a christian with right-wing political opinions. For some, Armond White is the ultimate contrarian.

Armond White has faced a few criticisms. The late Roger Ebert once claimed Armond White to being a "troll" [A]. White was also the subject of controversy when he was kicked out of the New York Film Critics Circle for allegedly heckling director Steve McQueen [A]. Despite his reputation among some people, I’m not making the case for him to be a Lolcow (hence why the thread is in Multimedia). However, given he is a unique voice among film critics, I think a thread on him could be useful. This thread will be used to chronicle Armond White’s reviews, articles, and internet presence. It can also be used to discuss and debate the topics and opinions of the most controversial film critic around.

I first heard of Armond White on, I think, My Posting Career, of all places. I seem to recall he was the favorite movie critic for that forum, for what that’s worth.

I know about this guy from the CWCki, where Armond White and Chris Chan's older half-brother Cole Smithey (another movie critic) supposedly ruined Toy Story 3's 100% positive review record on Rotten Tomatoes.
White’s reputation was so established by the time Toy Story 3 came out that Roger Ebert tweeted “the world is holding their breath for Armond White” after the first few reviews came out. White recommend the other wide release that weekend: Jonah Hex

Only Snyderfans are retarded enough to take the guy serious.
He praised Twilight, Grown Ups, the GI Joe movie, etc.
This is so true. I have a few friends that fell into the releasethesnydercut cult and they think Armond is some sort of genius.

I think part of it is that he's just a contrarian. But, his reviews are pretty fascinating sometimes. He was one of the few critics to shit on Call Me By Your Name , so that makes him pretty rad in my book.

Armond White has gone somewhat against the grain with a positive review of Lena Dunham's newest film Sharp Stick (Archive). Most of the review, White contrasts the film to the HBO series Euphoria.

Not since Quentin Tarantino has an American spearheaded a genre that would influence a generation of media makers as Dunham did with Girls...What Tarantino is to adolescent-male film noir, Dunham is to post-feminist comedy — her private fantasies modernize narrative conventions.

Dunham... clearly knows how sexual culture operates, and Sharp Stick does it again.

Dunham is funnier than Euphoria and more honest than Eighth Grade and Promising Young Woman.

Time for Armond White's thoughts on the new Game of Thrones series (Archive). He calls Game of Thrones "Fascist Art" and trashes the show for pretty much being part of the propaganda machine.

Premiering Sunday nights, the episodes offer new immoral Sunday School lessons about the post-Christian world, teaching viewers to enjoy ruthlessness.

both Game and Dragon exploit the roots of epic warfare popularized in Peter Jackson’s dreadful Lord of the Rings trilogy — but based on George R. R. Martin’s bowdlerization of J. R. R. Tolkien. Now, Tolkien’s religious allegory is cheapened into secularism, meant to appease today’s politically confused consumers

It’s unsurprising when reviewers praise Dragon because it “puts its female characters front and center like never before.” The show symbolizes the political fantasies that the leftist media forces upon the public.

Can't go more than a couple reviews without Armond White worshiping Zack Snyder.
Reviewers are excited by the TV quality of Game and Dragons because they, like Dragon director Miguel Sapochnik, learned nothing from superior cinematic epics, whether Zack Snyder’s 300, Man of Steel, or Rise of an Empire.

Don't forget that he praised Michael Bay's Transformers and Paul WS's Resident Evil movies, respectively. The only time critics agreed with Armond is when he did a negative review of Suicide Squad. Still, he's currently a way better, more down-to-earth journalist than mostly the entire people working for journalism today.
