Hello, I am AtroposHeart and I am on the tugboat currently for mental illness. There is a lot of misconceptions about the tugboat and Chris' use of it. This is for people to directly ask me as a user of the tugboat questions about how it works and such.

I will state I will not answer questions that I feel are inappropriate or too personal, but I well answer what questions I can to the best of my ability. I will state that my mother helped me a lot to help set up my disability check and stuff, so I might have to refer to her for a few questions.

I'm on the GI Bill. I broke things for Uncle Sam for a few years.

I'm asking specifics, like did AtroposHeart have to call a hospital or was there a specific govt branch related to it? I know how things are done in Canada but not so much with the states

For mental illness, I went to the mental health center for dealing with psychosis during a very rough phase in my life and the doctor then decided that I needed to be put on disability because in that state I couldn't hold down a job, or anything. Neither me, or my parents went looking to put me on the tugboat, it was suggested by the doctor and my parents felt that if it was bad enough for my doctor to suggest it, then I needed to be on it.

Ask me about my tugboat. It was fun getting on it let me tell you.

The branch in charge of disability is social security which is what gives older Americans their pensions when they reach retirement age, it is also in charge of disability payments.

Did you have to go in for an interview with someone?

Yes, I did I was evaluated by a professional psychologist and asked a serious of questions and tests. I don't remember much, but she was apparently impressed by my intelligence, but still considered me in need of a tugboat. I remember I did hyperventilate at one point from stress during the interview, so that might have "helped" her reach her conclusion of me not being able to handle myself in a workplace.

Do you ever feel bad when there are people with severely limiting physical disabilities who still work? :tomgirl:

Just because they are working doesn't mean they aren't on the tugboat. You can have a job and a tugboat, but you can only make a certain amount of money, I forget the exact amount. And to be honest, no because I have known disabled people most of my life and my father is in a wheelchair and I know that most disabled people want to work and contribute to their communities in some way. I actually feel glad they can work with what limited ability they may have and feel proud of them, trust me when you are disabled you don't want people always pitying you for doing basic, things that everyone else does.

What kind of mental illness? if you don't mind me asking, I'm just curious.

How do you feel about people who exploit disability but do not actually require it?

Then work? I knew a guy from my grandfather's POW-MIA 'club' who had stepped on an improvised explosive in Vietnam. His legs were amazingly left intact yet he lost most of one arm and breathed fire. He can't speak, half of his face is horribly disfigured and he is legally blind, and that fellow worked a 9-5 factory job on distribution. So I don't really believe hyper-ventilation or social alienation is grounds for a cheque. I don't, sorry if it's offensive, but it's bogus.

She has a psychotic condition that prevents her from holding a job, not "hyper-ventilation and social alienation."

It's kind of hard to hold down a job when you can't think straight or control your emotions.
