It's obvious that Chris is an utterly loathsome waste of skin with no redeeming qualities and he frequently uses his autism as a crutch. However, there are those who are also a bit "touched" who seem to be good kind of people that you actually might want to go out and meet.

One such awesome person is Frankie MacDonald. He envisions himself as a weather forecaster and his videos are him giving out weather warnings to various parts of the US and Canada.

I hope no one tries to troll this guy. He's actually an okay guy.

So he expects people to subscribe to him, and watch him instead of a real forecaster when bad weather happens?

They had this guy on my local news to give a special weather report, it was pretty cute. He knows he's just playing around, but at the same time he has a lot of fun with it.

I'm personally a big fan of Urville by autistic Gilles Trehin. Shit's both weird and cool.

Don't think i'd want to meet him, but he seems harmless and he's doing something he enjoys. Glad he's having fun with the forecast.

#1 on the list should be Ulilillia. The guy who created Bob's Game sounds cool too, don't know if he's autistic though.

Honestly does anybody here really think everyone with autism or asperger's is an awful waste of space?
People can't really help being born with it and they can still function in society unlike a lot of different mental problems

I put in two years webmastering for Special Olympics International and running their AOL area when that was still a thing. During my time there, I met a guy from Poland who was part of this program where athletes went around giving recruitment speeches to other people with mental challenges. The dude had Down's syndrome and he spoke five languages. Fluently. I think it was Polish, Russian, German, one more European language, and English. I would never have known English was only about his fifth language if someone hadn't briefed me beforehand.

How he did that, I have no idea, but damn.

If any of you have been on the forums for long, you would find lots of cool people with autism, including, Dun, the comod of this forum, and a successful lovequester. Now, I may be a bit biased since I'm his girlfriend (who also is a forum regular who has autism too), but he is probably one of the best guys I ever met and I really have a feeling we will experience many more years together. He is notorious for being the guru of all things Wonderswan, RPGs (especially FFIV, he owns a copy of every single version of FFIV) and the like.

He is living evidence that not all autistic guys are terrible with women (though it does help that his said woman also has autism so understands what it is like having autism)

I don't want to name names in case some people can't let the past go.

Somebody I used to troll the hell out of got her head out of her ass and surprised me by admitting she fucked up. She went from Chris-level butthurt to somebody who's actually pretty smart and fun. Anybody asks her about ED - she says it's a mistake she made and it was a learning experience for her and she's doing a decent job of not getting sucked into drama again. She says her modern day self would smack her past self for being so stupid.

Gotta give props to the lolcows who wake up to their bullshit.

Yes and no. There's plenty of weird people who create things we love, so I'm hesitant to say John Lennon or Steve Jobs is a waste of space.

Ok, maybe Jobs. But John Lennon wrote Yer Blues, which gives him a pass for life.

Seconded. Even Encyclopedia Dramatica goes fairly easy on him. I've never seen an ED article that nice.

Granted, most of it is pointing out how much more pathetic good old Chris is.

There's plenty of people with autism and aspergers who make something of themselves, and plenty of people without it who are pieces of shit.

This. I'm sure Dr. Troy doesn't actually believe that and said it as a rhetorical question, based on posts of his that I read. That and he was way too cool in Nip/Tuck to think in such generalized terms.

Having said that, historians and psychologists speculate that Thomas Jefferson had Asperger's Syndrome due to his general behavior. The creator of Pokemon, at least according to the CWCki, has Asperger's. Then there's the man, Gary F-ing Numan, who has Asperger's and wrote the greatest song of the 80s and is a licensed pilot.

On the neurotypical side, we have Hitler, Stalin, Napoleon Bonaparte, and Don Henley. Why Don Henley? Because I hate the Eagles.

Another Aspie forum member here, though I mostly lurk and wouldn't really say I'm particularly cool or anything. I do have my shit together better than Chris I think, and I can confirm that as a whole Autistics are no better or worse than non-autistic people.

Also, in terms of cool autistics people, Temple Grandin. She pretty much revolutionized how farm animals are handled in part due to her autism (the way it made her perceive things made her better able to understand how the animals perceive things, thus she could design equipment that would cause less stress to them). Not to mention the creator of Pokemon is widely speculated to be aspie IIRC.

Actually the creator of Pokemon is confirmed to be an Aspie himself.

my brother has autism, he's 14 and hes probably one of the coolest dudes I know, when ever I go up to my moms place I bring some of my guns and we go to the range and pop some rounds off, hes got an obsession with wwII and knows damn near everything about that war, down to the last detail.

My brother and I both have autism. And while he can be a bit annoying sometimes, he is pretty good at remembering dates, especially when it comes to cartoons. Plus he's helping my dad with real estate.

As for me? Well, to be honest, if it weren't for finding out about Chris Chan, I'd probably wouldn't be who I am today. I remember first seeing him on the internet back in high school, and reading about him and watching his videos made me realize that if I didn't get my shit together, I'd end up like him. So I guess I have Chris to thank for *cough* setting an example.

Now, I'm teaching swimming lessons part time, and I'm currently looking for other places for work. I've still got a ways to go before I become independent from my folks, but I like to think I'm making some progress.

My uncle was severely autistic, but he was absolutely amazing when it came to musical memory. The man could pull up a keyboard and replicate a melody flawlessly, and he could do the same with a harmonica. He also liked to sing, but ironically he was hopeless tone-deaf when it came to that.

He also had an incredible memory for music. If he heard a song on the radio--particularly he a country song or a "Golden Oldie"--he'd probably be able to rattle off the title, recording artist, the year of production, and the recording studio, in addition to the formats it was pressed in.

Uncle Tommy spent most of his life in special schools and in group homes, but he was a firm believer in God and insisted on praying before every meal. He also loved fast cars and video games, but music was his passion. It was often hard to communicate with him--he'd stand in the corner, rocking back and forth, rattling off information about old records if left to his own devices--but he was also exceptionally kind and maintained a positive outlook on things.

Sadly, Tommy passed away last year in a freak accident. I miss him. He was the most pure soul I've ever met.

Life always seems to take the best ones away. He must have been fun and lovely. I'm glad you had him in your life.
