Confirmed: next game is about vikings. Reveal is tomorrow, as of right now we only have this art teaser.

Based on the art, it looks like it's going to be based on one of the Viking invasions of England. Big buff white dude seems to be the protagonist, I suppose, but we won't know until tomorrow if they're keeping the shitty RPG mechanics from Odyssey.

Nothing says assassin like a 2 handed axe. It's so stupid it could be fun.
When I first saw the reveal, I thought it was medieval Japan because I saw a sword.

Vikings. Interesting. But vikings AFAIK aren't stealthy. So how would it be Assassin's Creed without stealth?

At least it's differentiating from itself as a sequel, unlike II to Brotherhood to Revelations. Or even Origins to Odyssey.

So does this mean that Kratos is going to Egypt now?

This looks like they're trying to make a Rune game but with AC branding, but I remember how much DLC currency they shoe-horned into the last few installments and made grinding a nightmare. So if it has a billion micro transactions I'm going to skip it.

It's not like Spartans are stealthy, either, but they somehow shoehorned that into Odyssey. I don't know what studio is doing Valhalla, but it's more than likely it's the Black Flag team and not the B-team who did Odyssey, so it might try something new.

I would drop the AC branding and make it it's own series.

If you want to make games in historical settings, don't bother to tie them into a grand narrative. Have each game be a standalone title. Many people want historical sims and the like so it's not like you're taking a real big chance by covering the same topics. Just look how Total War covers different eras by having each be a separate game.

Is anything even happening in the main over-arching story anymore? I quit playing after black flag, and by then it was completely off the rails.

Syndicate wasn't bad. Better than Unity. Assassin's Creed meets GTA.

This could've been a new IP.
Syndicate was terrible, the missions were dogshit, you rarely needed to parkour and the wide roads meant you were using your web shooters to get across the map. The weapons were terrible and if you got a copy with the pre-order weapons and armour, you ended up with weapons better than the end game ones super early on. the upgrades were rarely needed, they still havent figured out that its extremely easy to just shoot most targets in the head and run in side missions.

Unity had its problems but at least you still did parkour and most buildings had interiors and you could run through to dodge guards like Aladdin. Plus the multiplayer missions were fun as shit. (Im biased though, i was one of the top players in all the AC multiplayer games)

The only fun part of syndicate was going after level 8-10 missions at level 3.

Honestly though they really should have just made this shit its own IP. Like imagine rocksteady getting an IP about the non-assassins that had first civ DNA. They could do winks and nods to the order history but also could have the game not be called AC and have stories set around that conflict, plus you wouldnt have to ensure a happy ending like in cred games because of the bloodline nonsense. so far neither Origins or Odyssey was very Creed like.

Also Ubisoft is close to going bankrupt financially instead of just in ideas. The last Division and Ghost Recon apparently sold so poorly that they decided not to release games this year. They also got 4 different IPs stuck in development hell. (A game about pirates, a game about mythology, Watch Dogs 3, and some other one)

And i don't have high hopes for this either. It just screams "odyssey:winter edition"

Does anyone really think its going to not have the same level cap/sea travel/spare cities/mythology bosses/constant upgrades and useless weapons of that game?

The only other thing i hear they're adding is a clan system like a revamped one from Revelations but outside of that its basically just going to be like the last dozen games they showed off. Where its basically a just barely re-skin of its predecessors a la The Division, Ghost Recon, Rainbow Six, For Honor, etc.

And again considering how they extremely last minute changed Odyssey so that its canon for the woman instead of the man despite somehow the motion capture for Cassandra is 100x worse because they didnt want the SJWs to slag them off like they did with Unity. You know for a fucking fact that there will be blacks, women, and especially trans Vikings in this.

I actually liked Origins and Odyssey a lot, so I'm interested in seeing what they do with this.

I just wish they'd finally drop the completely needless and re‎tarded 'modern day' plot. That shit completely breaks the flow and pace of the games.

Considering the pains they took in Odyssey to hammer in LGBT elements and some historical revisionism, I feel like they're going to do the same here irrespective of culture. You'll probably get to optionally play as a female Viking given the allusion to Valhalla, most likely a Valkyrie of some kind.

It really does suck how far they've moved outside the "Assassin" element of its namesake, so it might as well just be called "Creed". I played up to Unity, and imo the Ezio trilogy was the best part of it all. AC3 had some great potential to spur on a new trilogy, especially with Connor, but the American Revolution was a mere backstory that ended far too quickly, and Connor was very wooden overall.
