Atlas on Netflix - Live action mecha movie.

Why would robots have pronouns? I'd think they wouldn't bother with something so illogical as human pronouns.

Also lol JLo. No one cares about the new Bennifer saga and the album and fail tour it spawned. I guess she's gotta do something to keep her name in the press and recoup her losses.

This is a bait and switch movie.
Trailer makes it look like a sci fi action movie when in reality, it's a romcom where J Lo "merges" with a nigga AI and the sci fi action stuff is just a backdrop.
This is a chick flick is what I'm saying so be aware of that before you watch this.

Lets face it JLo was never cast in anything because she was a good actress... now that she's 54 I'm really questioning why... but it's Netflix so I've long given up figuring out what eldritch logic drives them to do any of the things they do.

after watching that trailer, the root of the cringe seems much deeper. the stupid ass rap song playing in the background is merely one branch growing on that retarded tree
 
This looks like dog shit. Also I'm pretty sure this is going to be like "Edge of Tomorrow" where they Hollywooded another obscure source material like "All You Need is Kill" with limited accreditation and an absolute butchering of the story. Be willing to bet they stole the idea for this from "The Riftbreaker."
 
Just saw it. It was surprisingly decent. The first half was kinda bland but once Jenifer Lopez's character and Smith begin to bound it gets a lot better by the second half. Not a great movie but good by Netflix standards.

Just watched it, its bad but not for the reason people here say. First of all the robot pronouns make sense. Robots have human personalities and names to make it easier for pilots to bond and sync with them which makes them more effective as a fighting unit. So the bitching about pronouns is retarded.

Anyway the main problem with the movie is that someone played titanfall 2 and went "Oh yeah, I can do that." and in some ways they succeeded and in some ways they failed.

Smith is about as likable as BT-7274, I wanna see more Smith, he's witty, he's funny, and juuuuust the right ammount of clueless, patient AND impatient, to be an extremely likable AI companion. He tries his best to connect to lopez but even he gets sick of her shit at one point. I'd argue he's even more likable than BT is, which considering the writers just copied BT, yeah makes sense.

But everything else about this movie is a trashfire.

So tl;dr

The smartest scientist on the planet (a single white woman naturally), invented the first true AI ever and for some reason gave it the form of first a chink (obviously) and then a nigger (as if any other option was ever a possibility.)

Then the scientist's daughter showed the AI climate change, which drove it to become.... an international eco terrorist. Eventually the AI promised to destroy all of humanity and fled the planet for... another galaxy?

Then stayed afk for 35 years with the master of plan of... waiting for humans to deliver it antimatter warheads...? Which they do...? And states that "Humans will destroy themselves with climate change... which is why I must destroy them first. For some reason. That's why I did nothing for 35 years on another galaxy waiting for humans to give me antimatter warheads???"

The movie is about the scientist's daughter and a bunch of pilots sorry rangers, assaulting the AI's planet with their titans ARCs 35 years after it left earth. Naturally all the highly trained military elite force specialists die instantly and its upto henifer hopez with 0 hours of military training to stop the AI all on her own.

Yeah its complete retarded nonsense. Nothing about the plot, the setup, the world or the characters makes a lick of sense. The only redeemable part of the film is smith. And while we're at it, let me bitch about the title. Henifer Hopez's character is called "Atlas" of all fucking things. The AI deuteragonist is called "Smith". The movie is called Atlas.

HELLO? NAME THE FUCKING AI ATLAS YOU MONGRELS, NOT THE BASIC BITCH PILOTING IT.

And Jenifer lopez sucks in this too. Jack Cooper and BT work because BT is the veternal oddball and Jack Cooper is the rookie straight man.

In this movie Smith has to pull quadruple duty as the straightman, the oddball, the veteran AND the rookie, because all Jenifer/Atlas does is annoyingly scream and cry and piss and shit nonstop for the first one and a half hours, and girlboss her way to the finish through the power of trauma for the last half.

All in all the movie is pretty bad. Its just a ripoff of a much better property and its more or less just another DEI tax writeoff for netflix.

tl;dr Just play titanfall 2 instead.

I hate Western mecha that have the most boring, boxy "refrigerator with a giant window in the front" design.
