I noticed that these games are on sale on Steam right now - the feedback I heard is that they're Mega Man-style games, and I think one of the former developers of the Mega Man series worked on them.

Then I saw crap like this and immediately got disinterested. (Apparently one of the characters is even named "lola", which in light of all the pedo-threads here is pretty creepy and gross.

Can someone fill me in on whether or not this is a "weeb game" or whether it's actually worth playing?

They are very worth it. Gunvolt's gameplay is pretty fun. It's basically Mega Man Zero but with cool electricity powers (and no melee combat).

No spoilers, but the narratives get pretty depressing (but never edgy or grimdark) over time and the (true) final bosses can be difficult. Not your standard shonen happy-go-lucky fare.

It's not a "weeb game". The games don't sexualize characters like the one in the OP. The character name "Lola" is just an altered version of her actual original Japanese name "Roro". Character-wise, GV is about on par with Megaman X or Mega Man Zero, nothing offensively "uguu sugoi kawaii desu". They're all pretty tamed.

As long as you have no issue with one of the characters being a robot sphere that turns into an anime girl, and won't get triggered over the gender shenanigans of that final boss in the sequel, you'll be fine.

It's fun once you get into the groove of things, you can string together some pretty fun attacks if you plan things out. All in all, it's a pretty solid underrated gem, in part due to the fact it was exclusive to 3DS and switch for most of its availability.

If you're going by steamDB, historically it's been discounted for much more during the bigger seasonal and lunar new year sales, but only at around 70% off.

The second game has Shovel Knight as a boss. Also, the games are well worth the price and you can play as Gunvolt in some other games too.

So I tried the first one the other day - first impression is that it seems extremely easy compared to Mega Man Zero games.

You basically have a shield which can be recharged on demand, and nullifies any and all damage you take (meaning you can only be damaged if you temporarily run out of shield energy, or if you get hit in the middle of using a charge attack).
