A lot of the time technology gets worse due to small stupid decisions made by the people who run it. It's worth having a repository when this happens so users can work around the bullshit and laugh at it.

I came across a vague warning from someone I follow about the potential future of YouTube policy, pointing to a front page Featured banner for Safer Internet Day, which occurred on February 9 this year. You can see an archive of it here at the bottom of the page. One weird thing about that is they ran they ran the promotion for less than twelve hours, reverting back to their Black History Month campaign after.

YouTube Featured: Safer Internet Day - How we protect our community from harmful content

The post links to their How YouTube Works page, skipping to the "Our commitments" section. (Wayback Machine, Archive.md failed) That page has been the same since they added it in late June last year. This time last year YouTube posted an event blog for Safer Internet Day. (Wayback Machine, Archive.md) So far this year, they haven't. (Wayback Machine, Archive.md) However, they didn't post a blog about it in 2019 either.

What I think that means is either they wanted to put out a weak reminder of their current policies, or they have something planned that they haven't released yet. Whatever happens, it appears YouTube is committed to their direction of interference.

This mightn't be a great first example for the thread since nothing's really happened so far, but if it does, these were the early signs. A better one might be how Reddit added dozens of moderators to r/WallStreetBets, who will likely run the community into the ground.
