The Cleveland-Minnesota game last night highlighted why the ghostman-on-second rule in extra innings is so ridiculous.

Oscar Gonzalez hits into an inning-ending double play in the 10th inning, but thanks to the rule, starts the 11th inning on second base and ends up scoring the winning run.

While watching part of the game today on the MLB app, I noticed Alvarez's zone was entirely red hot. So out of curiosity I checked Alvarez on Savant to see his zone BA.

Jesus Christ.

After today's game it appears many Yankee fans are seing this as a reality check. Astros pitched a combined no-no against them to win 3-0, showcasing their superior bullpen and rotation.
J.J. Matijevic also hit his second career homerun today, and is the only Astros player other than Alvarez to hit homeruns as their first two hits. 20220625_155629.jpg

Not only were they no-hit today but apparently, they were held to six hits total in the rest of the series.
Even with the loss on Thursday the Astros have been the better team and practically toying with them. If Pressley pitches like normal the Astros are easily 3-0 this series. Such is the luck of the game.
All it took was the Yanks facing a team with elite pitching and defense to show that even with a 52-20 record, October is gonna be a grind. Probably better the Yanks see this now so they can plan for it later.

Break out the brooms for the Pirates. Great series for the Rays this weekend. Seeing Ji Man come up big in the 7th was great. Stadium was popping (as much as it can be at the Trop) and Paredes looks unstoppable right now. I feel much better than I did a week ago. Shane McClanahan should win the Cy Young if he keeps this up.

Big brawl happened earlier in the Mariners Angels game after Winker is hit by pitch.

Completely deserved- the Mariners have nearly hit Walsh, Ohtani, and Trout in the head with high 90s fastballs in the past couple games alone. Can't whine about getting drilled in the ass with a low 90s fastball when your own team has almost headshot three of the Angels' star players.

On an unrelated note, today I remembered a woman named Kelsie Whitmore who "made history" as the first female player in the Atlantic League about a month ago. The baseball industry collectively jacked off over the idea of a girlboss showing the men that she can do everything, with her even getting a letter from MLB commissioner Rob Manfred about how awesome it is to see her inspire women to finally stop playing the abortion known as softball. Predictably, Reddit's baseball board joined in on the circlejerk, massively shitting on anyone who dared to ask if this was a publicity stunt or for predicting that she wouldn't be able to hit men's pitching and that her 70 mph fastball wouldn't be good enough for even a high school level team. After a month, here are her stats on baseball reference.

Sorry for using the full sized image, the thumbnail made it hard to read.

She has played 15 games so far this season and has yet to record a single hit. She has thrown 5.1 innings this season over 7 games, essentially pitching batting practice for the opposing team for a 23.63 ERA and an incredible 16.9 hits per 9 innings. This woman was supposed to be one of the best chances of a girl being able to perform at the professional level, and she can't keep up with single A level players.

Imagine being the one guy who struck out against her.

Isaac Paredes gets AL POTW which I think he deserved it.

Of course the Rays recall that fucking bum Ryan Yarborough from AAA and he gives up a 2 run homer to his second batter. I know teams got to run the arms they got but are you telling me this almost 10 ERA faggot deserves a line up spot?

Wouldn't be surprised if the Rays told Cash to phone it in this year so they could focus on a new stadium we don't need. Specially since the kike owner just died.

I love and hate my team.

Back before the lockout Juan Soto was apparently offered, but rejected a 13-year $350 million extension from Washington. According to The Bleacher Report he's not rejected a $425 million offer for the same number of years from the team. He won't be 24 years old until late October and he still has two more seasons as a restricted free agent after this season.

If the Nats don't have him extended by mid-2024 then some team is going to give up an obscene amount in prospect capital to get him at that season's trade deadline.

---

Speaking of Soto's Nationals, back on the 22nd they faced Baltimore and Austin Hays of the O's hit for the cycle. It's the 4th cycle in the league this year, with the most recent three coming in a span of just 17 days.

Double posting, but there's already another cycle to report. This time it's in Philly as Nolan Arenado of the Cardinals achieved the feat for the second time in his career.

4 cycles in the last 18 days across the league. Of the 5 cycles this season none have involved the AL Central, the last 3 have come against an NL East team, and the last 8 have come against an NL team.

---

Anyone remember Khris Davis? He's best remembered for somehow managing to hit .247 in four consecutive seasons while averaging 40 homers. He has signed with everyone's favourite Atlantic League team, the Kentucky Wild Health Genomes.

I follow the Cleveland Guardians' Facebook page and I would genuinely like to know if they have the worst fanbase on social media. Every single post is littered with people complaining about the name, at least one person throwing a psychotic shitfit every time they dare to lose a game, and the overall mentality seems to be "If you don't win the World Series every single day you should kill yourself".

Last year we got such gems as attacking Yu Chang for committing a crucial error by calling him a "slant-eyed chink who caused coronavirus" and threatening to murder Nick Wittgren's entire family because he lost a couple of games.

Jesus Christ. Sounds like their fanbase is made up of Kiwi Farms posters.

The Astros struck out the Angels Players 48 times over the 3 game series at Minute Maid Park, without the help of extra innings, and MLB record (Astros have the extra innings record at 52 as well).

They also tied the MLB record of 20 strikeouts in a 9 inning game on Sunday.
Strikeouts in each of the 3 games:
Game 1: 16
Game 2: 12
Game 3: 20

Astros pitching just keeps getting more broken as the season goes on, and now face the unusual problem of "Oops, all Aces" as Odorizzi and LMJ come back. Will they do a 7-man rotation?

Also, Mike Trout had zero hits in the series.
Not just that. He struckout 9 times, 7 of which were in a row, and within that 7 he had an immaculate game pitched against him when Urquidy struck him out 3 times on 9 pitches in a row.
