Took a trip to Miami to see Rays at Marlins. I thought they were dead in the water after Ryan Pepiot gave up 6 hits 3 runs in the first but he tightened up and went five hitless with 8Ks.

Rays go on to put 9 up. Life is good.

Great stadium but somehow emptier than my home Trop. Beautiful night too, 80 degrees, but they kept the dome closed.

Speaking of Ohtani, he's fallen off of a cliff in the last several weeks. Nowhere near any of the leaderboards for many stats now. I know that he's dealing with a hamstring issue but pitchers and opposing teams seem to have figured out a thing or 2 about how to attack him.

It's up to him to figure it out with the coaching staff and make some adjustments. He seems to be swinging on a lot of inside and low pitches (at least to my novice eyes).

I have to ask, which hats do you have?

Minor League teams have some bitchin' merch.

Used to have this one (Dayton Dragons, saw 'em in person as a kid).

Currently have this one (because Stormchasers is a cool name)

And want this one in the future, because Teddy was a fuckin' Chad.

Ripken is from Aberdeen, MD, and owns the IronBirds. This one seems pretty narcissistic, but hey, it's not like he hasn't earned it.

Some Mets catcher in London today. Do they make pussy excuses like that in yankland?

God I love baseball, and as some of you may remember I love Luke Raley.

Why do I mention this? Well tonight the White Sox played the Mariners on the road. The White Sox, a team coming off a 14 game losing streak not too long ago, end up 4-0 in the 8th.

Bottom of the eighth and two outs. Earlier in the inning they get a solo shot to go 4-1. Pitching change leads to bases juiced no outs. Julio Rodriguez strikes out then Cal Raleigh gets called out on strikes and nearly ejected. Two outs and Mitch Haniger hits a single to score two 4-3 now. Up comes Luke White Boy Summer Raley. HE BUNTS. A two out RBI bunt. White lightning! Tie game! Bases gets juiced again but a ground out ends the inning. Mariners work around 2 on 2 out in the top of the 9th with Luis Robert up by striking him out.

Bottom 9. Ground out, walk, walk, Jrod single but the runner is held at third. Up comes Cal Raleigh who grooves a 97.4 mph fast ball on 2-0 into the stands for a walk off slam.

Great game but even better because

All told I won 1765 by parlaying late game favorites with the Panthers in the Stanley cup but the biggest hit was that. If anything changes, if Luke doesn't tie it or if Cal Raleigh walks or singles I don't win anything. I love baseball.

Also always bet against the Rays, they've been cursed since dealing Raley to get Jose Caballero to replace the kid diddler.

Yo I was watching this game it was an awesome comeback even if it was from the absolute worst team. I fucking hate extra innings these days so walk off in the 9th is kino.

Phillies catcher is down for a month with knee surgery. We're still # and just had the London series. Really fun to see games in that arena.

Close to half way point and we have 20 losses. Just twenty.

Crazy last week Aaron judge getting booed as the crowd wanted Soto. You'd never think a Yankees crowd would boo a red hot Judge.. but here we are.

Did you hear about that guy from I think the pirates? Bet on games when he was on IL, lost like all his bets now kicked outta sport lol whoops.

Despite being red hot I'm still worried about the Braves. Last time Acuña was out... Well they got rings.

I remember Willie Mays from his time with the Mets and the 1973 World Series. They also did a cartoon movie about the Say Hey Kid in the early 70s.... If he didn't have to serve in the military, good chance he could have broken Ruth's home run record at the time.

Tomorrow's game in Birmingham was going to honor him and just happened to be he dies the day before.

Willie Mays was one of those guys you heard about from time to time and then immediately asked yourself "Holy shit, he's still alive?"

The Say Hey Kid was such a great player, and that's saying something when you consider some of his contemporaries included the likes of Luis Aparicio, Richie Ashburn, Duke Snider, Warren Spahn, and Roger Maris. The longevity of players then was something very unique to baseball and I don't think you see those kind of dudes anymore. Just a through and through workhorse.

Never got to see him play but I listened to his biography (narrated by him at least partially) when I had a long commute so it felt at times like the game was on the radio. Willie Mays was one of the all time greatest like top five ever by many standards. He's #5 all time in WAR (#3 hitter behind only Ruth and Bonds) and #1 all time Center Fielder by JAWS.

Nothing against those players but they were not even the best in the MLB overlapping his time. There was Hank Aaron, Mickey Mantle, Stan Musial, Ted Williams, Tom Seaver and Frank Robinson.

So who is the greatest living player now? Roided Bonds Clemens or A-Rod? I guess Ricky Henderson, Mike Schmidt (age 74), Greg Maddux, Randy Johnson are the clean best. Carl Yastrzemski is still around at 84 the best alive who played in the 1960s.
