Yes, they did use them in spring training. I have a feeling they will be banned very quickly because these new bats are designed for the hitter's sweet spot. So the reason why they're cranking is because the barrel of the bat is now where they kept missing. So instead of rewarding the pitcher with an out on a poorly hit ball because he missed the pitch, the pitcher is now punished for making a good pitch because of a weird shaped bat. A weird shaped bat that now has 2 contours, so how will they try and explain the shape of the bat away?

They should be forced to make the head of the bat bigger to match the new shape of the bat, see how much heavier they get and if it's still worth it.
Fuck pitchers. Torpedo bats forever. Learn to locate you sub 80 IQ Dominicans tearing your arm apart to throw 98 every pitch. Maddux never topped 95 and was HOF. Pitching is more than throwing hard.

Torpedo bats just equal the playing field for hitters against a bunch of mongoloids tossing 100 until their arms fall off

I hate em but with time I'll get used to em, like most new things.

There's something mildly funny to me about the prospect of Aaron Nola owning both of the Phillies' losses this year, assuming the Phillies fail to score two runs by the end of today's game.

Maybe I can blame the torpedo bats for Nola giving up 8 ER in 11.1 IP this year, all on home runs.

Okay, now I'm convinced the Royals are intentionally making their alt uniforms as garish as possible.

The 70's style hat, the powder blue, the QuikTrip logo... everything about this hideousness offends me. I should buy one and publicly set it on fire in protest.

How has Jordan Romano looked so far?

There was a lot of garment rending when he was non-tendered in December and then Philadelphia essentially signed him to the 1/8 deal he likely would've got in arbitration.

But then most of the Jays' insufferable fanbase mostly forgot about it after they panicked-signed Jeff Hoffman after losing out on Soto, Burnes and Sasaki.

Hoffman lost Toronto the game last night on a sac fly in the bottom of the 9th against the Mets. But it wasn't really his fault, because the Jays were up 2-0 with 2 outs in the bottom of the 8th. But the two relievers before him gave up a lefty-lefty triple to Jessie Winker and were walking the likes of Jose Siri somehow.

Jordan Romano has been a heart attack on the mound in almost every appearance so far. He blew the save against the Nationals in his first appearance of the season and was saved from blowing the game against the Dodgers a couple nights ago by JT Realmuto throwing out Chris Taylor. Even his scoreless appearances have been nerve-wracking because of his propensity to run deep counts and allow baserunners.

Hopefully he gets better as the season goes on.

That's the way he was too at the start of last season in Toronto. Then at some point it was announced he was hurt in May and he disappeared and never came back during a lost season for the team anyway. His non-tender in Dec was really unexpected by the fanbase. But everyone assumed his medicals were worse than the team was letting on. And he only have one year of control left before free agency anyhow if his elbow wasn't fully healed.

Romano was very effective and well loved in Toronto before then though.

He's actually a hometown boy, which is exceedingly rare for baseball in Leafland. The Jays cut their second last Canadian this week, so the only one left standing is technically Vladdy, who was born in Montreal during his dad's tenure there but is obviously Dominican IRL.

Romano was known as the Madman or Mad Dog while up north because he had a serial killer glare. And would pace back and forth in the bullpen for innings without end if he thought a save opportunity was coming.

He also used to have this really deep knee bend/full squat in his delivery from the stretch which was just ridiculous, but I believe he got rid of it a few years back.

He actually wasn't really a prospect at all in the Jays system. He was an unsuccessful starting pitcher for years who actually got taken and returned by the Texas Rangers one winter in the Rule 5. Then the Jays tried him out as closer for lack of better options and he became lights out.

Jordan is pretty much a two-pitch pitcher - fastball and slider. When he started having elbow problems last year, he lost some zip and location on his fastball and subsequently compensated by falling in love with his slider and throwing it so exclusively that he became extremely predictable when he could actually locate it for a strike.

I agree, pitcher's are pussies hence the majority of baseballs unwritten rules veing based off of the pitcher getting their pussy hurt by the batter.

Everyone and their mother says the best era of baseball is the steroid era yet anytime anybody tries to bring that back without turning people into the incredible hulk they whine, moan groan and complain.

The only way this bat should be banned is if the Yankees try to keep it as proprietary technology for themselves. I half expect the Yankees to patents this shit and sue any team that steals the design for themselves. Especially since its technically legal. So theoretically they do have a case should it be patented. I have no idea how that would work within the world of MLB bureaucracy but I wouldnt put anything past the Yankees.

The field was really wet and outfielders were missing all sorts of plays. Jesse Winker hit two triples and he previously had three career 3 baggers, one in 2021 and two in 2019. Bassitt had a good game, the Mets just slightly outplayed the Jays but that's all it takes.

Agree.

It always sucks to watch late game bullpen meltdowns, but the Jays didn't deserve to be leading 2-0 even with Bassitt's great pitching line when he left with two outs and a runner on 3rd in the 7th.

Bassitt had lots of Ks and a really efficient pitchcount, but he got lucky leaving runners in scoring position in the early innings (including Winker's 1st double and triple). Then when he surprisingly got pulled with under 100 pitches and 2 outs in the 7th when he gave up a single and Baty coming to the plate, Yimi Garcia loaded the bases two seconds later and somehow escaped unscathed.

Can't really blame Springer for any of Winker's rockets to RF either. He couldn't cut off the double to the corner, but the wet grass likely contributed. He looked awkward on Winker's first triple bouncing in front of him, but he tried to block an in-between bounce and simply missed.

The second triple by Winker in the 8th off Brendon Little with two on & two out that tied the game in the 8th was similarly just smashed.

I saw Jays fans complaining about old man Springer not catching it this morning. But on the replay it was pretty obvious that George gave it his all and simply had no chance to get a glove on it.

Jordan Romano update: He just got exploded by the Dodgers for 3 runs without recording an out (season ERA now up to 15.75) and is on the hook for the loss unless the Phillies can tie the game late.
Update 15 minutes later: The Phillies took the lead in the bottom of the inning, so Romano will no longer factor into the decision.

Case in point: people butthurt over Elly de la Cruz bunting on a no-hitter in the 6th inning, lol. I could somewhat understand the unwritten rule if it's 9th inning of a blowout of a meaningless regular season game since that's just petty. However, we got the team's star trying to revive a freezing cold offense in the middle of a game and he gets thrown out trying to do it too.
