That's one thing i dont get about baseball after all these years. Why can they overrun the base in those situations and are safe but someone comes off the bag during a close throw and they're out? What's the rule difference?
They can overrun first base (and home base I guess) but if they start making a turn towards second base and deviate from the line towards first base then they can't overrun it. At least that's what I think the rule is.

I believe it’s because one is a tag and one is a forced out. You can’t force an out once the batter makes it to base, but you can tag anyone off base.

Overrunning 1st base is explicitly defined exception to the MLB rules on when a runner is out:

Rule 5.09(b)(4) - [A runner is out if] He is tagged, when the ball is alive, while off his base. EXCEPTION: A batter-runner cannot be tagged out after overrunning or oversliding first base if he returns immediately to the base;

Anyways, I'm rooting for a new record, lol.
For the record, I meant this as a joke. How are the bullpens keeping this going?

Force outs are when you are forced to advance to the next base. 1st base overrun is explicitly stated in the rules to be overrun and stay safe to help allow base running occur and also help prevent injuries from happening at first if they have to slide in. You can be forced into a tag out at first if you overrun and make an attempt for second base. Home plate you just need to touch to score the run, so there is no overrunning.

Jays and Dodgers are down to their very last pitcher. After this, position players will be pitching probably.
Edit: Jays still has one more in the bullpen. Lauer is still pitching, what a legend

I’ve been watching this fucking game since yesterday can someone please win
