It's depressing, how the Internet turned out to be the thing where culture basically vanishes, because the sites are being removed left and right. It is a pity because for example old forums are the closest we have to actual time travel. You can basically see people reacting to cultural and historical events.

Damn! Good thing I saved a collection of my favorite quotes to a text file years ago. Archive everything!
100% this.

A while back I stumbled into a Bogleheads ("stay the course" index investing types, pre-FI/RE movement) thread spanning the 2008-2010ish market meltdown. That's not even that long ago, but it was fascinating seeing them react as each shoe dropped, speculate about what was next, etc etc over the months.

I always liked this one.
<Kazz> Do vampires have anuses? Cause that's why I wouldn't let this kid invade a vampire's anus in this RPG, right, I was GMing, and his character was an Anus Shade, with the power to possess and control the anuses of people and animals.. and I figured that vampires don't have anuses.

<Zaratustra> a vampire's anus is present, but non-working.

<Zaratustra> like a network card without the appropriate driver.

<Kazz> Wow. You're the biggest dork on Earth.

<Sharkey> And you're DMing an rpg with Anus Shades.

Not gonna tell us what it is you cocktease?

Sure, I'll tell you in a few years.

Fucking hell, I haven't been there for a couple of years, but it was staple of mine for well over a decade. RIP. Guess I'll be browsing the archives for a couple of hours.

DON'T YOU DO JAPANESE STUFF TO ME, HOMO
