Batman Beyond (1999) - "Sometimes I ask myself if Batman is just the suit or the man inside"

Amazing show, the only flaw was having batman inject his semen into Terry's dad's balls so that when he nut it was actually batman nut because Terry had to be related to batman for some stupid fucking reason.
Technically it was Amanda Waller who did the injecting.

Oh yeah, kinda shocking that a chronically obese black women would live into what should be over a hundred, then again shes on that fed/superhero health care and with her morals I could see her stealing baby organs.

Batman Beyond's intro techno plays in my head randomly at moments of serious adrenaline since I was like 5 years old and it was on TV.

I like it more than a lot of BTAS but it never hit the highs of that show. that said, if it had run longer with the same creatives at that point in time it would have went from the almost as good sequel, to it's full on equal imo. It's retarded they never made a live action movie and wasted Keaton in the Flash and the never to be seen Batgirl instead when BB would have made bank. It also sucks most of the comic sequels of the last 15 years are fucking terrible.

since I was a little kid I always wondered, why the fuck are Terry Mcguiness's parents named McGuiness, and red head, so obviously Irish as fuck, but him and his little brother are Japanese? and then when they fucked up his origin in Justice League, they confused my little ass even more by revealing his dad had Batman's cum. Why are Bruce Wayne's children with some Irish lady through another Irish man's cock Japanese???

iirc, that's actually the meta origin of why they made Bruce into Terry's dad -- fans pointed out how Terry and his brother looked nothing like their 'dad', which led to the writers coming up with the retarded 'Bruce is actually Terry's dad' shit.

That sucks. I'd rather it was just his mom was a whore or something than he's biologically designed to be the next Batman. what a dumbass plot. I always liked Terry as an ambiguously Asian guy (myself being partially one that was kinda cool back when that shit wasn't done to make retards clap about it online). If they had made it 15 years later instead of the plots being about future Batman shit or Spider-Man shit in a Batman coat of paint it would have been about something boring and unnecessary for either a children's show or an action show like immigration and racism and would have sucked balls.

Even dumber was her belief that a biological child of Batman would be genetically predisposed to become a vigilante superhero, to the point where she tried to hire Andrea from Mask of the Phantasm to kill his dad to motivate him.

While Batman Beyond is pretty good, Kevin Conroy is Batman. Imho you should view the series from the original animates series, through justice league/justice league unlimited, through to Batman Beyond.
Paul Dini and Bruce Timm were awesome for all of those. Boy I hope they haven’t done something cringe I’m unaware of.

I was fine with "it's the future so names are all jumbled"

But yeah, BB was good stuff. I remember in the day a buddy wanted an action figure of him, but they only had like Arctic Commando Batman Beyond and all the other stuff, but not just a normal toy of him

BB is the kind of successor story every other passing the mantle storyline will be compared to. It changed just enough things to feel new and original while keeping just enough to be recognisable and true to the spirit of the OG.

Look, if you saw that the guy had BLUE EYES and thought he was Japanese, that is on you.

To be fair, CADMUS is staffed with enough idiots to actually do something this stupid. Remember how everything they tried in case JL went rogue either proved to be worse than the JL going rogue or gave them valid justification to go rogue.

It's disappointing that Dick never showed up. The twist in return of the Joker was fun though.
He showed up in the comics for all that is worth.

It's the future and a huge portion of the show is about people splicing animal genes into themselves, getting whatever color eyes you want is probably like taking your kid to get your ears pierced. he's got slanty eyes lmao
Yeah, but gene splicing was new even at the time Terry was in high school. It was a plot point too. Also, Europeans have slaunty eyes sometimes too.

This show had such an impact on me as a kid that definitely carried through to my creativity now as an adult. The trend of animating on black paper that was started by BTAS was carried through for BB and I think it works so much better in this show, especially with the use of more "blocky" designs. You can tell there was a vision for this show and what a futuristic, cyberpunk Gotham would look like and they nailed it, from the characters, the visuals, themes and even the industrial metal/techno soundtrack.

It has it's flaws, any syndicated show does (like the season where the writing was a little corny and they began to move to digital animation) but it still holds up I think and is one of the better representations of the cyberpunk medium. Choosing to make Terry so different to Bruce as Batman was a very wise choice, it let him become his own Batman. He wasn't this bulky, silent "crusader of justice", he was a street thug who could rely on the suit to enhance his strength, had cool sci-fi tech and was an asshole who had no problem fighting dirty and taunting people when he needed to.

The ending with him being Bruce's son and all hench was retarded though, I have a feeling it was a rushed ending due to cancellation for the Justice League series.

TAS was GOATed and had a big impact on me as a young fella. I'll take a watch through Beyond at some point because of this recommendation thread. Thanks for the mention, Anons!
