BattleBots - IT'S ROBOT FIGHTING TIME (probably spoilers)

Small news, Re;Mars, the annual Amazon Ai/machine conference-conference and raffle is having another Battlebots Torunament on June 23rd. They had one for S5 in 2019 before corona that Witch Doctor ended up winning.

Little late, for whatever reason the Re;Mars event was not televised. So I'll post a brief summary stolen from the wiki:
>The event was ultimately won by HyperShock, who overcame Tombstone and Blip en route to the final, where it defeated Team Whyachi and Hydra.
The fights arn't up on their YT channel either, so I'll just take their word that the RC car has a Giant Bolt now.

Good news is though in August is when the Gold Bolt championship will be. Basically bounty hunters with an actual prize now.

See ya in a month.

New season kicked off filming today. At least two robots scheduled to compete won't be allowed to because they failed safety inspection.

Lets go Whiplash! Lets go Cobalt!

Go to hell, Leanne!

Something interesting is the lack of Sporkinrok videos left on Youtube (sadly including the Rusty fights :(). Remember when everyone was "hyped" about that team and how well they were going to do in BB? Good times. Goooood times.

I remember a lot of asspats but nobody willing to say specifics of how well it could do (because its design was very uncompetitive.) Then it showed up and was literally unable to go 3 full minutes alone, let alone with another robot in there trying to kill it. What a disastrophe. Behind the scenes theres actually a pretty big "old white/asian guy techie" vs pozzed divide going on between certain teams.) Want to know who's on which side... just look at the team make-ups.

Edit: Would probably help if you actually typed their name into Youtube properly, though. Sporkinok, like the Decepticon.

Edit 2: Still very little of the wooden spoon winner, though. I suppose there's not much to say without raising people's ire.

So continuing from ShoFuKan, the Golden Bolt was ultimately won by End Game who defeated Witch Doctor for it. WD came so close to a title again only to get beaten.
The other awards are as follows:
Rookies: Glitch & Riptide (split bolt)
Destructive: Hypershock
Grant Imahara Award for Best Design: Blip
Founder's Award (Best representive of the sport): Jamison Go and Sawblaze

Season 7 is beginning real soon, on Janurary 5th, Chris, Kenny and Faruq all back.

The teams for S7 are up. Alot of returning faces, a few new ones and our boi Rusty is back.

No Tombstone this season as Ray injured his back and hand and didn't recover in time for filming. Biteforce is permanently retired, as Paul Ventimiglia has taken up yachting instead.

Deep Six is out, citing the referees saying the bot was too damaging to the arena.

Icewave is out, Smeeeeee, Ghost Raptor, P1, Duck and Kraken are all out. The 250 pound walker class will also be shown.

A few updates to your update:

Though the "same faces" are all back again, one is missing. Discovery requested that Jason Bardis be replaced as a judge. No one knows why but he was and his replacement has already been announced. Its another classic bot builder, though I can't remember who, off the top of my head.
Rusty is back again, but only as an "alternate" -aka- it will only show up in Bounty Hunters/Golden Bolt.
Paul V. and Bite Force aren't part of the show anymore because Discovery won't sign the rights deal he wants, not because he prefers yachting. The Yeti guy is out, again, though, because he prefers fishing to slaving away in his garage.
The reason for Deep Six being deep sixed is slightly mis-stated. The team submitted both D6 and Triton, a huge horizontal spinner, as competitors and Battlebots took Triton instead to fill the "Tombstone slot". This thing looks fucking crazy and I can't wait to see it in the ring.
Kraken is actually back in it, but its a whole new design, with "hammersaw" (think Sawblaze or Skorpios) rather than a crusher. P1 is back too, just with a different name and bot and the Smee team has dispersed to other groups.

Oh, and finally, theres been a select few rules changes. Here's the big ones:
1) Crab walking is no longer a thing, if you can move at all you won't be counted out. That means if your opponent is stuck wiggling around then you better go up and hit them.
2) Unsticks are over too, except for bots being stuck together. If you ram yourself into the wall then you better hope you can survive your opponent wailing on you or you'll get counted out.
3) A new position of "Match Runner" now exists, basically head ref. He directs the other refs and is in charge of communicating between the two team refs and accepting judging challenges (see below) from losing teams. One of the existing referees took this position and his ref spot was filled by a new guy or, more accurately, a new girl. So, there's a girl ref now, I am sure you'll notice her right away.
4) Judging decision challenges now exist too. They don't really make sense to me and it probably won't come up on TV, fingers crossed.

Witch Doctor made a good first showing this season, blowing apart high-mid tier Ribbot. This is my second season watching as it airs, but I know Witch Doctor is a strong contender for the nut.

This is my first timing seeing Quantum. Shredderator always seemed like a meme, but it also seems like the perfect size to feed into Quantum's jaws, I'm guessing they wanted to give the crushing jaws platform a fight to shine before Vertical Spinner #21 blows it to pieces.

Ripperoni is an ugly bot, I get the design behind it, but is a real showing the plan failing with first engagement with the enemy. I think this bot is designed to operate with VERY specific dimensions, and should it lose any mass, it goes all fuckywucky. It was nice seeing it centrifugal dance around the arena. I have little opinion of Gruff, it seems a fairly bog standard lifter bot.

HUUUUUUUGE! Of the memebots, I'm a Huge fan. This was a good showing for the bot. I know Shatter can technically hit Huge where it counts, but I don't know if it's weapon actually has enough force in that part of it's swing to really do damage. it knocked off one of the bars on the wheel that keep Huge from getting stuck on a flat wheel, but I dunno if thats impressive or if it's just sort of pressed into the axel.

Spinner shells like Gigabyte are fun, but seem like they are an older design that doesn't really work anymore. I knew Free Shipping as a lifter bot last season, and thought it just didn't use that weapon in this fight, but have learned it's been lost to the vertical spinner plague. Gigabyte spinning like a giant beyblade on it's broken self rightening shaft was cool as hell, but the fight overall was kinda bad.

I liked Glitch last season. I though it was a neat design that did well. I've taken to reading https://battlebotsupdate.com/ for some good commentary on the fights, and he hates Glitch's guts and thinks it lucked into it's wins. Riptide may of shown that to be the case, as he threw Glitch onto it's back like a bitch in a literal OHKO.

Tantrum vs Minotaur was what a lot of people thought the championship fight last season should of been. Who can know how that fight could of ended, but Minotaur definitely as come out of the gates, like Witch Doctor, in fearsome shape absolutely creaming the defending Champ.

Was about to say it'd probably better to post the dailymotion link instead of trying to upload a cut here. Going to r/battlebotsraw, the episode is about a gig in size and trying to compress that for thread view would be a pain.

Thoughts on fights:
Having the entire fight card be 4 fights each this season and knowing who their opponents are is a good step. Not only does it help with preparing against tough fights but seeing the entire fight-card means you can pick out some good fights later in the season.
There are also 15 episodes this year, going to mid April for the regular card. Then a few episodes for the championship going into May. They got alot of content from the filming back in October.
Minor note from above previous post: Rusty is an alternative bot this year, that's why he's not on the fight card.

Witch Doctor vs Ribbot is a great way to start off, Witch Doctor did good and can be expected for the championships this year after almost getting the Golden Bolt last year.
I still want the Captain to do good but he was fed to Quantum.
Gruff and Ripperoni would be kind of a boring fight except Ripperoni's weapon didn't die, resulting in a Warhead moment.

Ripperoni bouncing around made the match fun, even if the bot lost.
Shatter couldn't really do much to Huge. Huge's design makes it hard for any bot to hit internal components.
OHKO from Riptide against Glitch. Glitch has a straight record of making a clean run through the tournament. To get knocked on the first match is not a good sign. Also Riptide showing that it deserved the full Golden Bolt.
Gigabyte was amazing. It might not be the most durable bot but spinning like a god damn Beyblade is really entertaining.

And the Minotaur vs Tantrum. This fight might prove that last year's champion win was a fluke if it didn't even damage Minotaur.

A little late in the right up but I made it before next episode. See ya next week.

So the fights this week:
Hypershock vs Sawblaze
Hypershock was doing well till it flipped itself over, the all Sawblaze had to do was chop off some wheels and the RC car can't move. The Sawblaze gets itself stuck. That cut into the underbelly of Hypershock must have been deep.
Fusion vs Emulsifier
Amazing destrictive fight, Emulsifier getting knocked around the box by Fusion, who pacts so much power in such a small package. Then Emulsifier losing treds and you can see the internals of the bot and Fusion smoking but both bots still having their weapons function.
Mammoth vs Valkyrie
Ever the swingset from mammoth. Managed to do good till they flipped themselves and lost their flippers. Not really a surprise Valkyrie won.
Madcatter vs Whiplash
Kinda pushed each other till a big hit from Madcatter. And then another hit that Whiplash can't recover from. It's unusual for Whiplash to be beaten at the control game.
Banshee vs Switchback
Not a bad fight, some hits but it mostly became a push fight.
Hijinx vs Big Dill
This one also became a push fight till Big Dill died.
Blip vs End Game
Both bots are so low to the ground. Blip tries to pin End Game but instead flips over and chews it's backside on End Game's spinner. Then one massive flip from End Game. Then a push fight.

Not a bad episode, but the last 3 fights were kinda yawn.

Ahh well, at least it had a series of very good fights. I loved seeing CV sperg out on its opponent and Hydra do a good job flipping again.
