BattleBots - IT'S ROBOT FIGHTING TIME (probably spoilers)

Then I suspect maybe a rule change next season in response to this, maybe something like 'if the robot does not have a self-right mechanism and it flips over, the opponent must immediately stop."
Will absolutely not happen, the rules say no tap outs, if they wanted to prevent unsportsmanlike damage dealing they'd allow taps, whick pretty much every other contest does. Shred getting obliterated was good tv, BB is secretly happy it happened.

@Polyboros2 what warning were they given? This is the first I am hearing of it

It's from the guy that runs BattleBotUpdate and was there for the filming:

The BattleBots showrunners might like when there is catastrophic damage to bots, but they also like having Teams that front the tens of thousands it costs to construct these Bots before getting accepted into the Fight Nights. Letting a team act extremely unsportsmanlike and burden other teams with unnecessary costs going to drive off the people they need to have any viewers.

I think Damian misinterpreted that. They have already been told to put their controllers down, but only because that always happens once a fight has ended.

I used to fucking love watching Robot Wars in the UK years ago and I have been pleasantly surprised by how good Battlebots is. There isn't much on Netflix but they don't take themselves too seriously, basically it's just good fun.

Hello there, fellow Robot Wars chad. Have you seen the reboot series they did a few years ago? I still can't believe they cancelled it.

That's the best part of the sport. The only thing that is actually taken very seriously is safety precautions and that's completely justifiable. The only thing I kinda miss are the days when robots were literally made out of whatever people could find.

Indeed I have, it was very good so of course the BBC cancelled it because they are cunts and what we really need are more shows about trannies and homosexuals.

Yes one of the most entertaining things was that these, delightfully eccentric in the best possible way, people were building death machines in their sheds using lawnmower engines and pieces from RC cars. Better days, my friend, better days.

Battlebots is more snazzy and there is more money involved, but it definitely retains enough of the charm.

S08E11. It's been a few weeks since the last ep.
Black Dragon vs Beta
Damn, what an upset. Beta lost power to it's hammer then got flipped. You can see John waving off the Brazilians because of what happened to Shredator.
>Despite the Brazilian team being loud and excitable they hear John and don’t come in for the kill shot. There are other teams out there who could learn from this exchange.
Cobalt vs Overhaul
Overhaul with the forks but Cobalt eating those tires. Yummy.
Switchback vs Ominous
Two big hits that renders the spinner on Switchback broken and Ominous flipped. Almost had that one Ominous.
Triton vs Glitch
Two good hits from Triton fries the batteries on Glitch. One more big hit sticks the weapon of Triton. Then Triton pushes Glitch into the wall, both flip but Glitch can't move. Decent match from dollar store Tombstone.
Gigabyte vs Starchild
Gigabyte manages to chop up the wheels. Starchild is moving around like a wounded soldier but makes the three minutes.
Capt Shrederator vs Jackpot
There's a back pits section where they go over the damage done to Shrederator. Guess we'll see if that Karma does come back around to hit Riptide.
Some good hits and goes the full three minutes but ultimately it goes to Jackpot.
Bloodsport vs Rotator
Some good hits from Bloodsport early, then a backlash hit sends it into the screws. Manages to get free and Rotator looks hurt and then doesn't move.

BD vs Beta is not an upset. Beta's "ugly mode" has been brought out against every traditional vert its ever faced and its lost literally every one of those matches. They don't know how to prep for verts and seemingly don't care to learn. He also didn't wave BD off because of Shrederator, instead its because that is standard practice for every angry old Brit who hates verts (see: Slammo in S5, also against BD.) I think that team also might have a bad reputation, now out of date, for doing that kind of stuff back at robogames a full decade ago.

here i'll do a riptide impression:
HEEYAAAAAAA YAAAAAA lyk i dont car wut my dad saz cuz he's just a fker and i'm a winner.

don't forget riptide doesn't care what you think or feel so think and feel ANYTHING YOU WANT about him.
let's start with how much of a dick head he is by putting this dick on his head.

Three eps I missed.
S08E12:
Lockjaw vs Madcatter
The drone got destroyed early. Big hits back and forth. Somehow both spinners are still going and another light goes. After a minute of stumbling, Madcatter finally gets a good hit. But then the count down starts and Madcatter gets knocked out at 0:01. Amazing.
Gruff vs Malice
Few hits from Malice and Gruff is out.
Doomba vs Dragon King
Two bots with impractical weapons that ends in a retard fight and a judges decision. And it's Dragon King. Yawn.
Claw Viper vs Hypershock
Damn, Hypershock runs rings around Claw Viper and lands shot after shot. Can't grab the RC car.
Free Shipping vs Big Dill
Massive hit from Big Dill sends Free Shipping flying after trading hits. And starts smoking. And then doesn't move.
Shredditbro vs Lucky
And Lucky shoves Shredditbro into the screws where it got stuck.
Sawblaze vs Hydra
Sawblaze has the forks instead of the dustpan config, meaning it can't get under the ultra low ground of Hydra. Few good flips from Hydra dents the forks. Turns out the forks are keeping the hammer saw from actually reaching apart from a few hits that don't damage the flipper on Hydra. And Sawblaze gets counted out, except Hydra keeps the match going.
Judges give it to Hydra.

S08E13:
Emulsifer vs Quantum
Quantum got defanged by Emulsifer's spinning disc. Quantum pushes Emulsifer who doesn't move. They start moving at the 2 count and it goes to the judges. And Quantum gets it.
Gigabyte vs End Game
Holy shit, 2 hits sends Gigabyte flying like a Frizbee into the clock in the corner, breaking that and the pipe. Another hit sends it upside down.
Shreddit Bro vs Overhaul
It's overhaul grappling sometimes and some hits from Bro, goes to the judges for Bro to win. Meh.
Rotator vs Fusion
Back hit from Rotator sends Fusion flying. They trade blows and Fusion starts on fire again. And not moving once again.
Skorpios vs Ribbot
Skorpios loses it's chain, Ribbot gets backed into a corner. Gets out then shoves Skoprios into a corner, it's not pretty. And Skorpios not moving. Ribbot gets another win.
Dragon King vs Terrortops
Judges decision, Terrortops. Enough said.
Copperhead vs Ripperoni
Two massive hits from Ripperoni end the fight in 45 seconds.

S08E14:
I think the Tournament bracket will be next week.

Starchild vs Huge
Huge is the only one with an effective weapon, he shreds Starchild. The wheels, the weapon, everything. Goes to the judges and Huge gets it, no surprises. 4 - 0 this year.
Ominous vs Shatter
Caught in the corner, Ominous gets in some good hits and Shatter does as well. They both go 3 minutes. Shatter ends up getting it.
Triton vs Horizon
What's up with Triton's blade? It's spinning up but then slowing down. It should easily get up to speed to crush Horizon but doesn't. Triton loses the left side of it's drive but still keeps it's blade. And Horizon gets counted out.
Bloodsport vs Beta
Beta is back to it's big metal wedge and uses it effectively to push Bloodsport around the box. Beta gets some hits on Bloodsports motor. Judges give it to Beta.
Mammoth vs Kraken
Swingset vs Sea Monster. Sea Monster gets in some hits but Swingset corners the Sea Monster and does a few flips. Devolves into a retard fight. It goes to the judges and Swingset gets it. They are 2 - 2 right now, with a win over Starchild.
Valkyrie vs Glitch
One hit from Valkyrie and Glitch doesn't move. And it's like this for the fight, Glitch dies, Valkyrie hits and goes 3 minutes. Valkyrie gets it.
Black Dragon vs Riptide
Riptide rips into Black Dragon early. Knocking it into the damn Lexan, more light destroyed by ricochet. And Black Dragon gets flipped and can't move. One minute and 25 fights knocks out Black Dragon. Riptide as 4 - 0.

Don't have S08E15 yet but I do have the bracket, so spoilers:
ham3Rf9.png

So Q1, Minotaur should have a decent run but has Sawblaze or Cobalt to beat. Q2, Riptide is against End Game, Copperhead, Rotator and Hypershock. They have some challange. Q3 has Witch Doctor going against Huge and Bloodsport. Q4 has Hydra against Deathroll, Ripeprroni, Whiplash and Beta.
Seems like a decent bracket this year.

To do this quick before the site implodes again.
Lucky vs Cobalt
One hit from Cobalt exploded Lucky
Blip vs Banshee
A 3 minute push match with some flips from Blip
Monsoon vs Deathroll
Deathroll died in the corner, unlucky. They still got into the bracket however.
Tantrum vs Whiplash
Tantrum got flipped and counted out, 1 - 3 for the defending champ and seeded at 26. Not looking good this year.
Hijinx vs Switchback
Switchback broke off the damn blade from Hijinx.
Slammo vs Double Tap
A 3 minute push match where they cut away for 90 seconds. Can't blame them
Minotaur vs Witch Doctor
A worthy rematch, Some good hits early on then both lost their weapons, Minotaur got it. A reason why they're seeded No.1

Would it be possible to make a robot that just looks like a giant pom-pom, covered with a series of strings on sticks that are designed to detach and get tangled up in the opposing bot's mechanisms? It could be designed so that the internals are protected by a fine mesh hemisphere and it uses propellors or something to move around and blow it's strings at opposing bots.

Entanglement weapons are illegal, and always have been. The one televised fight where Complete Control used a net, the fight was restarted.
Skip ahead to 2:00 for the start of the fight. I apologize for not making an archive, but do we really need that for a BattleBots fight?

And yes, that is current judge, Derek Young pulling the shenanigans with the net. Most likely this is why the announcers refer to him as "the bad boy of bot building". I respect the higher-up's decision to make him a judge. After all, who has better knowledge of the rules than a cheater?

Makes sense, but dissapointing. But I guess if there aren't rules you'd get acid attacks and electronic warfare and guns.

>Acid
Any specific acid strong enough to eat through AR500 steel could eat through the floor or the more easy lexan glass around the arena. It's a safety issue why there isn't anything other than small flamethrowers allowed in the box.
>EM warfare.
Robots are controlled outside the box via a two way controller and reciever. Many bots have simply died because the receiver got hit or the signals from the controller can't reach the bot. Using EM would knock out the opponent and your own bot too.
>Gun.
Lexan can stop 9mm bullets for instance, but strapping a glock to a spinner and having it empty it's mag in the box does more damage to the box and crown than it does to the bot it's facing.

There's a reason why they only allow kinetic weapons in the box.
