BattleBots - IT'S ROBOT FIGHTING TIME (probably spoilers)

We don't have a general thread for robot combat stuff so I'm just going to bump this thread since it's close enough.

Robogames 2024
Robogames is happening this weekend at the San Jose Convention Center in California. I am surprised the event is continuing after last year's event showcased a considerable amount of lack of safety protocols. In case you missed it there were two arena breaches where shrapnel from one of the robots was ejected through the plexiglass walls and out into where people were standing. Thankfully no one was hurt. There was almost a third breach where an entire robot nearly left the arena via the roof however it didn't quite get high enough to exit and instead just dislodged a ceiling panel. Video of the second breach can be seen at about 49 seconds into this video (you can see an entire panel of the ceiling come falling down into the arena). Secondary to the arena breaches there was an incident where a robot suffered a lithium-polymer battery failure and caught fire filling the arena with toxic smoke. The person from the event (usually a volunteer) responsible for getting the robot out of the arena walked into the box without any PPE or protection gear whatsoever. He was literally just breathing in carcinogenic smoke for several minutes as he threw a fire blanket over the damaged robot and loaded it onto a dolly. People who were watching the official livestream of the event on Twitch were banned when they criticized how the event was handling safety.

Dave Calkins is the person responsible for organizing Robogames and he's something of a "lolcow" among the robot combat community. His reputation is overwhelmingly negative and people seem to just put up with him out of necessity because he runs the only other event in the United States where heavyweight robots are allowed to compete. There was a period where he allegedly fucked off to France and lived in an old castle that he bought until he found out that living in an old castle is a pain in the ass so he moved back to the USA (I don't have concrete proof of this but it's been repeated so many times that it might as well be fact now). He is renown for his hatred of BattleBots despite being a former judge for the show during its run on Comedy Central. His beef with BattleBots is that they are selective about who is allowed to compete on their show whereas he brags about Robogames being open to everyone including the shitty robots that never get picked to participate in BattleBots. This is tangential, but amusing, Dave owns the carcass of former BattleBots champion Vlad The Impaler II and used it as a base to build a robot named Spin Doctor which traveled to China to participate in their bootleg BattleBots competition "King of Bots". (Dave is second from the right in the team photo on this page.)

Anyways, back to 2024. There is no official livestream of Robogames this year. News of this only came a couple of weeks before the event so it was very sudden. Immediately there was a theory that this was an intentional move by Dave to stem the flow of information in the event that there was another arena breach. The actual reason however is because Robogames is taking place at a new venue this year* and it is owned by a union. I do not know which one. Dave apparently did not know this when he signed the agreement. Because of the union ownership the only people authorized to run professional equipment there are union members. Dave refused to pay union rates and did not hire any of these people which means there would not be a livestream. Apparently someone else involved with Robogames this year offered to cover the union costs but Dave told them no and then attempted to ban anyone from the union from showing up at the event. A lot of this information is secondhand from competitors at the event so I don't know how much of this has been warped by way of a game of Telephone. Point is Dave is a retard and fucked up and there's no livestream which probably works to his benefit anyways because less people will see safety fuck-ups as they happen.

*Word around the community is Robogames had to find a new venue this year because during one of the arena breaches from 2023 the piece of shrapnel that left the arena hit the roof of the venue and put a dent in it and this pissed off the owners of the property. This has not been substantiated by anyone but I wanted to at least point it out.

Tranny Shit at NHRL
NHRL (Norwalk Havoc Robotic League) hosted an event yesterday and livestreamed it on their YouTube channel. NHRL has become something of a very large event for compeitors in the lower weight classes and I have no idea why they opted to hold an event the same weekend as Robogames where there is a lot of overlap between builders who compete at both shows. I don't really follow NHRL because I find the people who host the livestreams to be absolutely insufferable and annoying. A lot of the designs that compete in NHRL's weight classes are very samey and otherwise boring. Every event comes with a few robots that try to do something unique but more often than not the designs themselves, while interesting, are just total dog shit and aren't competitive in the slightest. There's a lot of "meme culture" surrounding NHRL and its fanbase is total cancer.

Anyways there was a robot who showed up to the event yesterday named Gigapaws which is a massively scaled up version of another robot named "Pawsitively Hissterical". It's basically a joke robot because it's a shitty walking robot armed with a hammer that does zero damage. It's actually quite heavy compared to other robots in its class because as a walking robot it is given a weight bonus (something that started with BattleBots back in the late 90's and has persisted throughout the sport ever since). NHRL also grants weight bonuses for various other things such as being a "multi bot" (having multiple robots fight as one entry) and other stuff. Gigapaws supposedly takes advantage of a bunch of these weight bonuses and because of this its design is fucking stupid and exists solely to be a joke. That would be fine had it not been for the paint job this robot came out sporting yesterday:

trannycat.PNG
Yeah, just straight up the pedophile tranny flag. This is nothing new however because the original version of the robot was dressed in pervert colors a year ago according to this TikTok on the official NHRL channel. The NHRL hosts just ate this shit up and put Gigapaws into an exhibition fight. Also I want to point out that while I'm not super familiar with NHRL's shows they do not usually give competitiors the full arena entrance treatment. They are specifically putting this groomer shit on a pedestal and giving it extra screen time.

This all just happened yesterday so there isn't much chatter about it in the community that I can find.

Mystrsyko Deleted His Channel
Some time between now and the last time this thread was posted in Mystrsyko deleted his entire YouTube channel. Most people in this thread are familiar with him but in case you aren't he did live commentary and reviews of battles from the recent seasons of BattleBots as well as commentary on virtually every old episode of BattleBots and Robot Wars from the 2000's. I want to say he also did shows like Robotica and Techno Games? Basically if it was a show that had robots on it he made a reaction video to it. His content was pretty low effort as far as things go but he was well liked in the community and before his channel was deleted he had something like 5,000 subscribers. If you search him up now all that comes up are results from other channels where he was a guest on a podcast or someone making YouTube Poops of his reaction videos.

Despite deleting his channel he appears to still be an active competitor in the smaller robot weight classes. His official team page (Heavy Metal Robotics) is still active on Facebook and posts pictures and fight videos. However on March 31, which served double duty as both Easter Sunday and Trans Visibility Day this year, he posted this:

HMRtrans.PNG
Big ass tranny flag on the wall, smaller flag behind one of the monitors. It looks like there are light up cat ear headphones hanging on a hook on the side of the table and the RBG keyboard is lit up with trans colors. Also what's that say on the visible monitor? Enhance.

egg.png

It's fuzzy but I swear that says "International Egg Day", egg of course being a groomer term for someone who hasn't realized they are trans yet and they need to have their "shell cracked".

I think Syko used to have a lesbian pride flag hanging up behind him in his videos but there's no sign of it here. Maybe it's on one of the walls not in the photograph. There was chatter earlier in this thread about him trooning out and this is just lending more credence to that thought. TQ+ claims another one.

Robogames is happening this weekend at the San Jose Convention Center in California. I am surprised the event is continuing after last year's event showcased a considerable amount of lack of safety protocols.
Well, it happened again. According to the account of exactly one person (LINK) there is now a "second layer" of lexan covering the Robogames arena, however on Saturday volunteer crew members were photographed fixing a hole in the ceiling by patching it with duct tape. It is not currently known what caused this damage or if the debris left the arena, however later on in the event during the battle with Terrortops and Black Jack (formerly "Jackpot") who are two incredibly powerful robots that have been featured on the BattleBots show a particularly nasty shot severed a piece of Terrortop's front wedge and flung it at the wall. Going by the explanations of several people who were there the Robogames arena isn't actually fully sealed and there are gaps all over the place. This piece of Terrortops, which consisted of a metal spike and the plastic bracket connected to it, hit one of these seams perfectly. The metal piece stuck in the wall but the plastic broke away and hit Bunny Liaw who was spectating from next to the driver's booth. Bunny competed last year with White Rabbit (known on BattleBots as "Malice") and her robot was subject to two of the recorded breaches. She said she was boycotting Robogames this year but was apparently still in attendance anyways. According to Bunny it's because her husband was responsible for managing the event for the three pound robots? Still, I don't know why she had to be there if she was so conscious about the safety of the event.

Bunny wasn't injured by the debris, however she seems to be more upset by the fact that Dave Calkins and the event officials (if there were any) didn't listen to her when she reported the breach? (LINK) Her priorities are completely fucked up here. Yeah it's retarded that Dave blew off yet another breach but the bigger picture here is she was literally struck with debris from the arena. She's lucky that it was the plastic part of Terrortops that hit her and not the metal because otherwise we'd be hearing a much different story from people who were there. People were obviously discussing the possibility of someone suing Robogames for negligence leading to injury. Someone mentioned Bunny should consider a lawsuit but she replied and said she had no plans to and that "everything else about the event besides heavies competing there is safe" (LINK).

I don't know what Bunny's problem is or why she's so insistent on putting up with Robogames' bullshit. I think she's some kind of official liaison or moderator in the unofficial Facebook group for people who participate at Robogames or something. Time and time again I have seen her say things like how she doesn't approve of Dave's behavior or whatever but apparently just doesn't up and leave from the event and wash her hands of the situation. Case in point last year she said after what happened with the arena breaches she wasn't going to compete in Robogames anymore, but again she still made it a point to show up to the event this year? And it's not just her either there are several other competitors who've said things about how they disapprove of Robogames' lack of safety and how people shouldn't support the event until Dave gets his act together... and then like clockwork all of them come back to either compete at the next one or are there in the pits helping someone else. Nobody is willing to stand by what they say.

Anyways aside from the breaches there was another battery fire. In the same fight where that piece of Terrortops left the arena Black Jack also hit a battery and blew it up. This filled the arena with a cloud of toxic lithium battery smoke and just like last year volunteers walked into the box without respirators or any sort of protective gear. As Terrortops was wheeled out of the arena it continued to smoke and it filled most of the venue. According to someone who was in the audience (LINK) there was no official evacuation protocol but people who knew what was happening took it upon themselves to leave the area and tell others who didn't know about it to leave as well. No official announcement or action from Robogames.

There is a post on the /r/BattleBots subreddit with an album of screenshots, video stills, clips, and chat messages documenting the safety issues this year. (LINK)

Posting here again because Giga Paws, the tranny version of Pawsitively Hissterical (see above post), was mentioned in the Pride Month thread in the Happenings forum. NHRL, the event fostering and promoting said tranny shit, uploaded a video recently showering the robot and its builder with attention... because Pride Month or whatever. Anyways here's some new stuff that's happened in the robot combat community since my last post.

BattleBots Sponsored By Boom & Bucket
Boom & Bucket, a company that appears to specialize in rentals of heavy equipment, partnered up with BattleBots about a month ago. I'm not certain what the details of the sponsorship entail but from this very generic-sounding press release that was probably written by AI it sounds like B&B is supplying BattleBots with heavy equipment rentals on the house? I guess to help them do things like load up and move around some of the really heavy stuff regarding the arena or the pit area and whatnot. I doubt a company that rents out forklifts and bobcats is backing BattleBots in any meaningful way financially. This just seems like the kind of thing you'd see at a monster truck show when the company providing the bulldozer they use to flatten out all the dirt and stuff gets a little advertisement banner hanging up on the wall. I doubt this sponsorship has any implications for a possible new season of the show on Discovery Channel.

New Developments In BB Robots/Teams
1. Petunia, the hydraulic crusher from the Netherlands, is still around and a picture of the 2024 version of the robot surfaced a few weeks ago. The new design shows the robot now has a secondary hydraulic lifting arm that the main jaw can bite down and crush opponents onto and then presumably the entire apparatus can lift upward and raise a pinned robot off of the ground. It looks complicated but I would still like to see it fight. Petunia wasn't the best robot when it was competing but that's mostly because its overall design was kind of bad. (Its front wedge was at like a 60 degree angle which made it near impossible for it to get any sort of meaningful leverage on an opponent and then bite down onto them.) I remember Petunia fighting Monsoon (I think) in a previous season and it got its ass handed to it and caught on fire and everything and it just refused to die so if the team has kept that kind of durability but added all this new stuff perhaps Petunia 2.0 will be a solid mid-tier contender.

2. Coming in about ten or more years late to the party is a hopeful new robot named "Ogrekill". It's from a team who've named themselves "All Star". They recently posted a build update with the caption "so much to do, so much to see". Have you figured out the meme connection yet? Yeah, the whole gag is "lol shrek" which hasn't been relevant in pop culture for at least a decade. Also their robot looks like a shitty knock-off of former champion End Game when you compare the frame and weapon arrangement. If the robot gets completed chances are BattleBots will want the team to participate in their "Proving Grounds" exhibitions that they sometimes include in their nightly Vegas shows. Since the robot looks too much like other participants who will probably get accepted without needing to do the Proving Grounds thing I have a feeling Ogrekill might get cast aside because why would you accept this robot into the field when it looks exactly like End Game and you already know End Game is going to apply too?

3. Tracer, a robot that resembles Bite Force if you made one of those 2007 era "Xbox 720 console fan renders" of it, has been sold. According to this eBay listing that was posted online a couple weeks ago the asking price from the original builder was $10,000. Tracer no doubt cost substantially more than that to build (probably somewhere in the $22,000-$26,000 range) but the robot wasn't very successful or notable so the five figure price tag still seems a little high. The original builder of Tracer dissolved his team and joined the crew behind Jackpot and brought with him Tracer's minibot "Ace" whose unique rotating/lifting fork design has actually proven effective in the arena. Seems like he knew he had a hit with the little robot and not the big one so he just cut his losses and decided to become a backup player in a more successful team. Tracer's new owner going under the name "TracerRevengeTour" says he hopes he can be accepted into the possibly-upcoming-but-most-likely-not season of BattleBots. Just like Ogrekill I'm assuming the producers will want Under New Management Tracer to complete a few fights in Proving Grounds because A) Tracer wasn't a very competitive robot to start with and B) the new owner seems relatively new to robot combat and they don't know how well he'd fare in a fast-paced "we have 45 minutes to fix this before our next fight" pit scenario.

Team Malice Buys Bite Force (Fake Edit: Just Kidding)
Bunny Liaw, the captain of the team behind Malice, made a post on Instagram stating she'd acquired three-time champion Bite Force. The photo showed Bite Force's builder Paul Ventimiglia gesturing toward the robot which was sitting in the back of the cybertruck owned by the Malice team. (Also lmao they bought a fucking cybertruck.) Discussion surrounding the purchase was divisive with several posters expressing happiness that the former champ would at least be returning to the arena period, while others were commenting on Bunny's ownership of a cybertruck plus dropping the cash to buy a former champion that her team might not be experienced enough to actually handle. Another poster stated that he hoped the team would change the name and look of Bite Force as to not sully its legacy under new ownership. Basically there was little faith in Team Malice actually continuing onward with Bite Force's incredible history. I'm just going to assume that this is because the team's flagship robot, Malice, isn't all that great in general but I know a good lot of these jokers are probably posting this because "ew women in tech" even though Bunny's just the face of the team and literally every other member of the group is a man.

Anyways a couple of days later the team made another post saying the purchase was a joke and that they were in possession of Bite Force because they were bringing it to be displayed at an event called "Open Sauce". I don't know what that is but judging by its website it appears to be some kind of a convention mostly featuring YouTubers who made science and tech based content (styropyro, Technology Connections, ElectroBOOM, etc). Neither BattleBots, Bunny Liaw, nor Bite Force are listed as a featured guest however if you go digging through the exhibitions page there is a teeny tiny footnote about BattleBots being present where it just says "robot builders" and that's it.

In regards to Bunny not suing, if she wasn't hurt then there were no damages to recover.
I don't think the Redditors who suggested that know the first thing about the requirements to file a lawsuit. Yeah, Bunny did not get injured but if someone catches a chunk of metal with their teeth next year there will be a massive shitstorm over it.

Anyways, since this thread has been bumped, not much seems to be happening in the world of BattleBots. A little more than a week ago BattleBots made a post promoting an upcoming collaboration with AMP. They appear to be a group of "capital B black" streamers. One of them invented the word "rizz" and made the news last year when he caused a riot in New York by trying to do a giveaway for a PS5. Real meeting of the minds here. I have no idea what BattleBots is trying to accomplish by willingly associating their brand with socioeconomic factors. These people know fuck all about anything STEM related and my best guess is BattleBots is trying to court the zoomer demographic with this partnership.

A few days ago over on the BattleBots subreddit someone innocently posted a question asking if there were any events for small robots in Israel. You might notice the thread is locked and there are a LOT of posts that the moderators have deleted. They were made by this guy and the posts he made in that thread that did not get jannied were downvoted dozens of times. I did not get to see the deleted posts when they were live as I check the subreddit only once a week or so nowadays. He appears to have doubled back and manually edited his surviving posts to remove them but in them he had such winning takes like "if you can afford the time and money to participate in robot combat then you can protest the genocide in Palestine". I did not get any screencaps when I should have, but I wasn't expecting to really post about this here because it's so insignificant. Literally zero people sided with this guy which I found funny.

Funny but also surprising, given the prevalence of bad dye-job trannies in the online community.

A little more than a week ago BattleBots made a post promoting an upcoming collaboration with AMP.
The AMP partnership has taken place and the resulting video has been posted (LINK). It's on the AMP YouTube channel instead of the official BattleBots one presumably because AMP has the bigger audience reach. It's been up for a day and has just under one million views which far exceeds the average views on a given BattleBots upload. The video is just a clip show of one battle and some highlights from the non-televised nightly show that BattleBots does in Vegas with cutaways to the AMP crew doing little skits or saying funny quotes every so often. It's not my thing but it's not as hoodrat as I was expecting. Also Bil Dwyer from the original days of BattleBots is in the video as the arena announcer.

The nature of this partnership and the resulting product seem to be somewhat divisive in the BattleBots community, or at least that's what I was thinking early on. I've done a little bit of poking around here and there. I was expecting to eventually stumble upon something worthwhile but really this is just a nothingburger. Here's the highlights anyways just so I feel like I didn't waste my time.

AMPwho.PNG

This is the most upvoted comment from the Reddit post where the collaboration was initially announced. Nothing really interesting here other than the pulse of the community reaffirms that most people seemed to not know who AMP even is so this collaboration was likely not something that was arranged for the benefit of the existing fanbase. There are a couple of comment chains where people are attempting to rationalize and validate AMP's presence within BattleBots by claiming they are famous on Twitch and have the most subscribers on the platform. The responses to these claims is mostly "being famous on Twitch does not mean anything these people are niche celebrities". There was the opportunity for conflict to break out but nobody seemed to really care one way or the other. Posts that were critical or mocking of the partnership were very softly downvoted but none of them fell below -10.

Some examples:
I put these in a spoiler because even though I inserted them as thumbnails the forum still wanted to display them at close to full size, I guess because they have a weird aspect ratio.
AMPcrit2.PNG

AMPcrit3.PNG

AMPcrit1.PNG

AMPcrit4.PNG

AMPcrit5.PNG

AMPcrit6.PNG

A link to the video was posted to the subreddit today. There seems to be little to no interest in it. The comments section is mostly just the BattleBots Update guy making fun of the video thumbnail and criticizing the clickbait nature of the content.
AMPthumb.PNG
AMPcrit7.PNG

Strangely it seems the comments that are slightly critical of the content are being upvoted now, the opposite of the first post from a couple weeks ago? The three people in this screenshot attempting to rebuke BBU's posts are the ones being downvoted now whereas if you look at the collection of critical comments in the spoilered section above you'll notice that one of BBU's comments is among those downvoted. But again they're all just "soft downvotes" and none of them go below -5 this time. It really seems like no one cares at all.

The only other thing of note is someone sussed out an AI bot leaving comments and people started trying to mess with it:
AMPbot.PNG

That is just on Reddit however. There is also the official BattleBots page on Facebook and there was some more activity there. Sort of.

These are comments from the initial announcement of the AMP collaboration. Sorting by top comments first pretty much everyone is completely disregarding the partnership entirely and are just asking the page admin when the actual show is coming back on TV. Again, none of the actual existing fans of BattleBots seem to give a single shit about AMP.
AMPfacebook1.PNG

But since this is Facebook there were a lot of comments that were just openly calling out the partnership as DEI or whatever. This had a knock-on effect of bringing out all the lefty faggots to stick up for their pet protected class and tell these mean old huwhite boomers to stop insulting these fine upstanding lunchtime rowdies who definitely know all about BattleBots and are totally huge fans of the show and how this isn't an astroturfed cash grab for relevancy among zoomers.
AMPfacebook2.PNG
We will circle back around to this Cameron person. I just want to point out that William's dismissive response to him is a copy/paste of what Cameron has in his Facebook profile bio, he's throwing it back in Cameron's face because it's cringe terminally online shit.

AMPfacebook3.png
This is another one of the top comments again asking for the show to be put back on TV. I just separated it from the others because this one has a political jab in it and fits better down here. The remark by Brandon, "finish your beetle" is a retarded clap-back that elitist people who actually build robots will use to discount the comments or criticism of someone who is not a competitor. Using it pretty much outs you as a dumbass and by now the remark is nearly a decade old and nobody actually says this anymore except, again, terminally online people. Allen completely shrugs off the comment and oh look who it is at the bottom, it's Cameron again with very fangs-out language.

AMPfacebook4.PNG
Some replies to another upvoted comment that is very innocently just "Who are those people? Never seen any of them on BattleBots." It's a genuine question because the AMP people have never been on the show before. Melody answers the question in a very polite manner and is hopeful that the exposure will be good for BattleBots, that is very nice of her. But look who shows up right after Melody, why it's our friend Cameron again who took one look at the person's profile picture and posted... that.

Anyways, a day ago BattleBots also posted a link to the AMP video to their Facebook feed. Let's check the comments there!

AMPfacebook5.PNG

0 comments and only 35 post interactions. BattleBots has 4.2 million followers on Facebook and after almost 24 hours on the platform their post about the AMP partnership video has brought out a staggering 0.000008% of their followers to leave a like and none of them left a comment. Where's our friend Cameron? Shouldn't he be here in the comments section seal clapping for how great of a job his pet niggers did in the video? Wait a minute, don't tell me Cameron's support of poor and underprivileged BIPOC folx is just a performative act for social media clout! How could he do this? How can Cameron live with himself when he is such a bad ally!

What's Cameron been up to anyways?
AMPcameron2.jpg

Oh, so Cameron is one of those troons who harbors violent fantasies about shooting conservatives? Wow, that comes as a complete and total surprise to me. A profile full of dumb zoomer humor, a fearmongering post about Project 2025, and a comment from a fellow tranny that's just a photo of a gun sitting on a mount. No mental illness here, nope none at all.

Cameron posts to his Facebook account constantly and I'm not going to dig through all of his posts cooming over shit like BLM and punching Nazi's to see if there's any milk there. Here's his current account and here's his old one that he seemed to lose access to in 2020. Also here's Cameron!

AMPcameron3.jpg

Very brave and stunning. Looks like he's got the beginnings of a troon hovel behind him.

Anyways the main takeaway from this waste of time is that none of BattleBots' existing fanbase cares about the AMP thing and the most upvoted activity on all of the posts about it is either "who are these people" or "when is the show coming back on TV". There was some soft disagreement when it came to criticising the partnership because the robotics community is infested with commie retards and naturally when it came time for them to actually show support for their protected class they couldn't be assed to even leave a single thumbs up emoji as a comment but they were more than willing to attack the mean old conservative chuds on social media who just want to see their favorite show back on the air. I was hoping there'd be more funny stuff here but alas there is nothing and I wasted my Saturday morning digging up nothing but fool's gold. (:_(

Wow, lotsa news. I've only got two things, first being that Battlebots isn't being held this year. Sources cite Discovery not picking up season 8 since the merger but what's holding things up is they haven't renewed any streaming shows since the merger, then throw in the writer's strikes earlier in the year and the F1 in a few months in Vegas and it's not happening this year. There is Proving Grounds, which is the live show where some bots can face others in the arena for the crowd to marvel at. They even have one of the Comedy Central announcers doing the nightly shows.

Second with the Robogames debacle, Draco from BBU wrote up an article on the 2023 and 2024 issues.

Those "news" are actually "olds".

edit: Also, BB wasn't a streaming only show. It actually aired on the main channel and got good ratings. My guess is that they are done on WBD, between the main show and BH they have enough episodes for syndication and lots of networks like to cancel shows at that point to get new blood in and not be too stale. Here's hoping a different network picks it up.

Earlier this week he posted a countdown article listing off all the best moments in BBU history. At the end of the article the way he worded the last few sentences suggests the website is shutting down soon.

The countdown article is an interesting read as there are a few running gags I expected to see on the list that aren't there. In their place are things I either had no idea about or didn't think they were important enough to be included. The part about the Spinning Mayhem guy made me genuinely sad.

Lol, that one creepy motherfucker who liked Tiny Toons too much. I mean, he's dead so I shouldn't laugh too much but knowing Draco's history he was surely jerking off to it.

He did literally draw Fifi which is the character everyone has the hots for.

Couple of things:

The Worst of BBU
Another countdown article is up on BattleBots Update. This time it's the opposite of the other article and it's a list of all the low points. Draco expresses regret over some very obvious things that you'd expect to see and also talks about being a little too mean when the website first launched. This thread is specifically mentioned in point #1 so Draco is aware of here. (Hi) He doesn't name him specifically but I swear Null is talked about indirectly in #13: "A few months ago someone I loosely keep up with online posted an opinion piece that essentially said “being depressed is a choice”. He then went on to itemize out how wallowing in despair and kicking rocks around is a conscious decision because doing that is far easier than making real personal changes." Didn't Null tweet something to this effect and it pissed off a lot of sadbrains?

He also names Out of the Arena, a robot combat Discord server that's full of sensitive trannies, and uses them as an example of how the reputation of BBU worsened as time went on and the fandom got more pozzed. 3 of the 15 entries involve Draco feeling bad about clowning on some of the women who participated on the show. The troon who built Sporkinok is not among them. Also fucking @Lowtax is mentioned in this post and has his own entry on the list. I was not expecting that.

NHRL on ESPN2
NHRL, which I've posted about previously, posted some cryptic things online a few weeks ago about how they were working on something big and could not talk about all the details. Apparently it was a partnership with ESPN who will be featuring NHRL in a 24 minute TV special as part of their "ESPN8: The Ocho" block. The Ocho is literally a joke programming block and one of the posters on Reddit dug up this announcement that lists off the other dumb shit that will be airing during this special. NHRL and the tranny menace known as Giga Paws will be sharing airtime with such things as "Speed Jigsaw Puzzling" and "Adult Big Wheel Races". This was only posted a few hours ago so there aren't a lot of comments on it yet but there are a few Redditors acting smug about how NHRL is on TV and BattleBots isn't. /u/teamtiki sticks out to me because when I did that deep dive into the AMP thing he's one of the people who left a comment being butthurt over Draco/BBU picking apart the video thumbnail and calling the content algorithm garbage.

What do you need writers for it's literally robots destroying each other with giant saw blades and giant mallets what is there to write

A long time ago Draco mentioned something about trying to write a few hokey introductions for Faruq to read out for specific robots however the producers would not let him give them to anyone because he's not SAG or whatever the union is. I cannot think of anything else that would require writers unless it's something like the segments of the show where Kenny and Chris talk about stuff? That seems unnecessary though?

Yeah, they have guys do the intros for Faruk, and since Chris and Kenny punch up their commentary in editting they also might have writing for that plus the intros and outros.

This is just my speculation but I think Draco was aware of Varka's reputation but really wanted to go to BattleBots so he "made a deal with the devil" so to speak.

Called it. Finally read through the article, sounds like Draco has gotten himself a proper full time job and is moving on from BBU. Which is fine considering he's been doing it for almost a decade at this point.
