Battletech - Also known as Trannytech

That is a bit of a "he said, she said" situation, cause CGL says they made the decision on their own (albeit after talking to Fanatics about it, but Fanatics supposedly left the decision entirely up to CGL). Pardoe blames this on his stalker, but he isn't going to be neutral in this matter, so anything he has to say has to be taken with a grain of salt. Just like anything CGL has to say, of course, cause we all know how SJWs like to lie about their motivations.
Rule #1 of corporate PR: no matter what you do, never blame the parent company. If Fanatics told CGL to murder babies and offer their blood in a ritual to Beelzebub, CGL would have to say it was their own idea. And besides, it's not like CGL said much to begin with, and in this case I'm more inclined to believe Pardoe because the only thing that has changed in CGL recently was their acquisition by Fanatics.

By the way, not to defend these guys but I would not want to be in CGL's shoes in general. They're operating a license and an intellectual propery that's not theirs and will likely never be theirs. That's got to suck.

Though one thing does come to my mind: Maybe I should place a huge order . . . for every BT novel and sourcebook written by Pardoe that I can find.
Nah. If you want to send them a message buy everything used and then contact them directly voicing your disappointment with their decision. You will be dismissed as a chud by the PR people who receive those emails, but it's a lot better than giving them money.

If you lot want a good laugh, here's a link to Catalyst's recent tweet about going to Gen Con. They're getting reamed about Blaine Pardoe's firing.

A shame one can't read stuff on Twitter any longer without an account - whoever decided that you can't read tweets without account must be a total smoothbrain.
Nitter seems to be broken as well. Shit sucks, I get cheated out of hilarious shitposting.

Basically a lot of people saying they will never buy from CGL again and a couple saying they're going to give them an earful at the convention. That's as far as I can get with refreshing before it tells me to make an account.

That's what VPNs and burner accounts are for, lads.

Have an impossibly long screencap:

(so long, in fact, it broke the image preview system. Nice.)

A few trannies and blind fanboys scattered in there, but I'm not going to lie: reading the outrage brought a smile to my face.

You guys think this could actually sink CGL in the long term? We all know sjws don't actually buy these products, and the vast majority of fans for Shadowrun and BT have been customers for decades and usually lean conservative as well. I think they might have killed the golden goose here.

Nah. I don't want to be a doomer but I don't think this will put a dent on their income. BattleTech is still a niche hobby but even in those 80% of the playerbase doesn't follow social media or drama. Most people see someone being fired, don't think about it for a second, and just go "they probably deserved it". So I don't think this will have a long-term effect.

I do still hope the short-term backlash spooks them, though. Companies are extremely skittish these days, so if you manage to startle them hard enough you can affect long-term strategy a lot more than just not buying their product.

(Edited to correct a bunch of mistakes. That's what I get for typing while distracted.)

A fair amount of people are saying theyll support Battletech through other means, just not through CGL. Only time will tell if people stick to their guns and not buy anything from them. I haven't bought anything from GW since they shit their bed, so my promise will ring true. If I want another playmat, I'll look up on ebay and make sure it's from an individual and not a store.

I know Mage Leader just made a video about supporting Battletech outside of CGL, so I'll check it out once I get off work

That's fair but this isn't some ordinary employee. Blaine Pardoe has had a massive influence on the franchise for almost 40 years and word DOES get around. It's naive to think in this day and age even with a niche product, consumers don't keep up with it on the internet.

Enough to matter? Hopefully. I'm not counting on the groundswell, but for now and the foreseeable future I'll stick to giving my custom to others.

It'll be interesting to see how this plays out. I keep seeing references to 'Pardoe was an asshole to fans', but nobody seems to be able to supply anything.

Let me draw a contrast here. When Jessica Price opened her whore mouth and tried to shit on Deroir over the story planning for Guild Wars 2, it was (a) in public, and (b) everyone had that shit screencapped.

If someone's got Pardoe being an ass to an actual fan or player, fine, but show me the money.

Because my guess is that Pardoe's spicy political takes (including 'being anti-BLM', lulz) made some people's fee-fees hurt. And so they set out to burn him, by raising enough ruckus that finally someone up the chain would take notice.

Sure, but we're pretty invested fans here. Most guys in the group I play BT with didn't even know who Pardoe was. They were livid when I explained it to them, but in general most people's reaction to this is going to be "Blaine who?" because he wasn't really a "face" for the company or the IP. He was very important to the product, but not in a very visible way to your average "I just like stompy robots" fan.

Pardoe being an asshole to fans is a complete fabrication. The guy added literally hundreds of fans to his books as Easter eggs, and he used to play MWO with the community. He might have strong opinions, but I haven't seen a single shred of evidence of him being an asshole to anyone who didn't deserve it (like "Faith").

If he wasn't a face then firing him for allegedly making the company lose face is a nonstarter.

That's kind of what I figured.

Not going to play the 'personal army' card, but 'Faith' is looking mighty interesting right now. Just sayin'.

I'd have a laugh at such a thread but if Pardoe is smart he will start moving towards a tortious interference case or similar and the docket will be interesting.
