Hey @Grayson Death Carlyle did you play an Arctic Cheetah recently? Saw someone with your name using one.
If it was a trial mech it probably was me, would have been roughly a week ago at the latest.

What do you guys think of the new MW5 DLC if anyone has gotten the chance to check it out or watch any youtube streams about it? I think the wire-frame dolls are ugly for clan mechs and the way they flash incorrect designations like in Lethal Heritage was not pulled off very well so far, like a crude imitation done rather poorly, but I am a bit too picky about lore stuff.

Just started playing the DLC. About 5 or so missions through it, and it's really hitting me just how much of the same it is compared to regular mw5. It's the same groups of braindead mechs swarming you, it's the same long linear missions with people talking inbetween ambushes, and it's still the same lame mechbay.

And yeah, the paper dolls look like ass. They were just all reused from mw5 clans (never actually finished that game). The big thing that bothers me with it is that there is no real sense of discovery or suspence with this. It just goes from "What the fuck is going on" to the one ops bit saying "we need to take out those clan wolf mechs". Thing is too is that the targeting computer just spouts off the inner sphere mech names for all the mechs like it's been pre-programmed into them. Like yeah the madcat thing I get, but in your first fight with the clans the computer does not even drop a beat and calls out "vulture" and "loki".

With that all said, the new cutscenes are pretty decent. Almost makes me wonder if this was better off as a miniseries instead of a game.

I know nothing about it but it fucks with my mods, hope the it's worth "creamapi'ing" because buying reused assets (or any other DLC for this game to be honest) it not worth it to me, especially considering we already got Clan stuff and much more with mods that will most likely take a bit to fix (if these modders are still modding this game).
Besides, no matter how many DLCs they make for this game and what they add, unless they fix the core fundamental issues with this game it'll never be worth it.

That is exactly what I meant with my complaint regarding the targeting computer. It's really stupid tbh. I also cannot say I am surprised they do not convey surprise at the arrival of the Clans and all entailed very well. I would have thought they could set a thing in the game so the names for clan mechs will act funny and try to call, say for example a Summoner as a Thunderbolt or Timber Wolf as a Marauder until a certain date is hit in game, then they start using the later IS designations.

Also never finished it when I got the chance (borrowed someone's Xbox premium whatever bullshit to try it, didn't like a few too many minor things like the ugly ass wire doll art)

Also had this happen yesterday, made the game unplayable when I tried to enable the mods and restart the game, it just crashed. I should have expected as much, not a big deal and I should have known better. I just wanted to show someone (wife-to-be) I got into the game how YAML makes mech customization actually fun, but 11gb of updates means that'll have to wait.

I wish they'd dedicate one DLC towards fleshing out your pilots so they are more than just a stat sheet and a portrait.

Even MW3 and MW4 put more effort into fleshing out your lancemates and made the gameworld you inhabited feel more alive.
Supposedly the new expansion fleshes out the pilots?

Not to excuse Piranha Games's laziness, because they certainly could have done more with the game in the past six years, but at the end of the day MW5 is still a marked improvement over its predecessors.

Yes, the AI is dumb as a bag of bricks, but that has always been the case in MechWarrior games. I simply don't think the way BattleTech portrays mech combat is something current AI in games can handle, no matter how much effort they were to pour into it.

The mission design is on par with previous titles (barring the branching structure of some campaigns in MW2: Mercs if you were to lose a mission), and I'd argue the mechbay is an improvement over what we had in MW1, 2 and 3. I still think the mechbay in MW4 did some things better, but the one here is adequate and makes different mechs, and different mech variants, feel distinct.

My main complaint about MW5 is that everything looks far too clean and pristine. I wish they'd taken inspiration from the grimy and gritty take of the IS in MW2: Mercs, both in aesthetics and writing. As I mentioned previously, the other issue is with pilots, I really wish there had been missions or mini-campaigns tied to a specific pilot (like with the companions in Mass Effect 2), not just when recruiting them, but when they were part of your lance as well.

My dream would be something like the BattleTech game, but without HSB's faggotry, married to Space Rangers, especially the text adventures with skillchecks part, or at the very least more gameplay that isn't directly related to mechs and fighting battles with mechs. BattleTech really needs something to help people experience the setting itself.

I've heard conflicting reports, but I do hope they've put more effort into them.

Mechwarrior 5 and it's DLC's can be summed up with this image here.

But on the topic of AI. I believe that the fact that ttrulez_aimod2 even exists proves to me that AI can be better. While not on par with how mechs a portrayed in battletech, it at least works better in the framework that exists in mechwarrior.

I could sit here for hours and bitch and complain about things I like. But I highly recommend giving this video a watch.

Playing a tourney this weekend. I'm pretty nervous, I've never played ranked etc.
Got a new PC and my new mouse has this weird thing going on... Almost done the MWO event. Haven't got the new DLC for MW5... playing a Kurita MW5 camp... so much fun.

Wouldn't recommend getting any mod on steam that you can't get somewhere else. Auto-Updates are silly.
Its either that or the 2MB/sec off Nexus. I ain't downloading vonBiomes or any other gigabyte+ mod at that speed when I've got 100 Mbit fiber.

I also really don't want to make a nexus account considering it is supposedly reddit-tier in terms of userbase as I've heard. Making me use an account to download a free mod is stupid and I refuse to cooperate.

Eh... they're pretty much mandatory for Bethsoft shit and there's some MW5 mods that are Nexus-only, but otherwise you're better off avoiding the place.

Ah, fair. I personally don't mind the wait but the 2MB DL speed is cancer.

See now that is a bit much. Nexus may be dogshit but the sheer amount of content that isn't (next to the much bigger amount that is but that's easily ignorable) is worth making an account, I like ModDB more as a site but it just doesn't compare, which I blame mod authors for since most don't make mirrors. Use a throwaway, use adblock, boom you're not given them dick beyond a single person's traffic, especially if you're not on the site often.

CGL is doing some playtesting for the next rulebook they are releasing.

Limiting ammo explosions to 20/10/1 depending on equipment and getting rid of damage allocation depending on which side your being shot at.

Its now the same F/R but if you get hit on the left side and damage is allocated to the right it just hits the left instead.

>Package 3: Gear (Starts October 27, 2025, ends December 8, 2025)

Okay, they have my attention. Are they finally going to start rebalancing shit? The game is about 30 years overdue a full stats overhaul.
