Here is a recommended list of reading.

Also here is an archive of pretty much all the stories in Battletech.

Also forgot this https://rebrand.ly/cranstonlogfiles these are all the audiobooks up to date.
Don't follow this order completely, read Heir to the Dragon after the Warrior trilogy and Wolves on the Border. It starts before all the others but like half the events happen after the rest of them namely the war of 3039 happens after the 4th succession war in Warrior

Main Event and D.R.T. (the Black Thorns novels) were not the strongest, but it always amused me in a dark way what happened to the unit; due to editorial oversight, they got left on Galedon V right around the time the planet got hit with a bioweapon and was then subsequently sterilized by nukes. Whoops...
Which is strange as in the Mercenary handbook update it is stated that the Black Thorns went MIA when the Federated suns struck Galedon V and that the combine had declared them rogue and charged them with contract breach. So either they died when the Ravens later appeared or they somehow managed to flee and die en route to Northwind

I finally got to play the clan DLC for the mw5 mercs and holy shit I got my shit clapped by the first mission
they just land headshots constantly, and I had like almost every lvl5 gear on me and good 380 tons worth of heroic mechs
aside from difficulty cliff, it is nice to see actuall story forming up instead of what they had before

I'm equal parts dreading and anticipating finally fighting those motherless vatsons.

Btw i noticed something
You know how inner sphere has different names for the clan mech. Which makes sense since they dont know how they are actually called.
How come elementals are called the same? Shouldn't shperoids call them different as well?

We do. We call them Frogmen because of how much they use their BA jumpjets.
Toads, Ticks, and Kröte.

Yeah but ingame UI still says elemental
Thats kinda dumb
Yeah, that's also a thing on tabletop record sheets. It seems like when writing the records for clan units, FASA only bothered making reporting names for mechs, even skipping over non-mech units that actually had reporting names in the fiction.

More playtest rules came out. One major buff Autocannons are getting (Including LBXs, RACs, and ect) they can now negate one crit before being destroyed. I don't know if that means it still take a crit or just outright negates the first one.

it sounds like it needs 2 crit hits before the auto cannon goes down

i got a few games under my belt. I got a limited pool of mech so I've been using a pair of enforcers and chargers in my lances. but I've noticed most lances use a variety of mechs. what are the pro and cons of using multiple of the same mechs?

I mean theres specialist mechs like archer and catapult that are dedicated missile boats, and you don't really want to have more than 1 in your composition.
The opposite is more optimal, having a raven with the NARC or a TAG will make your missile boat far scarier.
Its all about ranges and who can deal most punisment on given terrain.
4 griffins can pepper anyone in a mountains where they can hop from place to place sneaking PPC bolts but would struggle in a city vs a single hunchback.

While the unjamming/jamming changes on rotary and ultras are fine, but the "negate crit" rule seems a bit improvised. "We need to buff autocannons without invalidating hundreds of record sheets" so they ended up essentially improvising a quirk that means extra book-keeping. Plus, even if Btech "realism" is incredibly shaky it begs belief that you can "ignore damage" on a ballistic weapon. Try damaging a real world rifle and see how safe and functional it ends up being.

But again, they needed to buff them without re-writing stat blocks. A difficult endeavor.

what are the pro and cons of using multiple of the same mechs?

I've never met anyone playing with more than a couple of the same Mechs in a formation (for example, a couple Locusts). I'd say it would feel "off" for some unfathomable reason to have mono-design lances.

They've also finally gotten rid of that abomination of a jam rule UACs have [making them actually competitive with other lostech weapons] made it possible to walk and fire other weapons while unjamming RACs [Making them less of an "all or nothing" niche weapon] as well as allowing RACs to use caseless ammo [Something A LOT of RAC units desperately needed with how little ammo space they have assigned]
As for your negation question, they do take the first crit, its just that 2 crits are now required to disable an AC [For example, if an armored AC gets hit, that won't count towards the negation because the armor prevents the crit from happening at all.]
Overall, I'm already in love with this change. If the line devs play their cards right and don't listen to the grogs, we might actually see an end to the clan flashbulb meta.

Something funny I learned today. So the re-release of The Warrior Trilogy had some kickass art.

So I decided to go look up the artist for more of his work. As it turns out, it's some guy who goes by FlyingDebris. Look into his DeviantArt and guess what else he made? Only two of some of the most famous pieces of anti-Furry and anti-Brony art on the internet.

The more you know, I guess. I wouldn't consider killing either of those groups spooky, but still, a fitting Halloween post.

FlyingDebris AKA Alex Iglesias does some amazing work. He did work on some of my favorite late era mech designs.

He also did a huge chunk of the MWO mech designs.

I hate linking sarna for shit but for art purposes I don't mind.

Nice to actually know his name. Still quite funny that the first of his work I ever saw was an Atlas decimating furfags.
