I mean thats nothing new. People have been comparing the two for decades now. Its fun as a thought experiment, but it never really goes that far because the two are from completely different schools of thought in the mecha genera.
The true answer is if you wanna play mecha, which one allows background dudes a chance more. Say what you want about this old clunker BT, but you just might crit that Axman, and boy has he deserved it.

Aren't most basic Gundam huge by Btech standards? The basic Zaku is an assault mech with a bullshit magic piece of engineering that can throw tank shells on full auto and fire anti-ship missiles as their go to 'vehicle deleter'. Silly comparison.

They also run on and emit particles that make normal methods of radar and detection useless, which is why most fights in the Universal Century are at visual distance.

The RX-78 Gundam shrugs off the Zaku's machine gun fire in the first episode, and they're firing 120mm ammo at full auto, which is comparable to main battle tank rounds, and I assume similar to the AC-10/AC-20. They're also fast enough to outmaneuver battleships, in space, which just means they're going to speed blitz any battlemech they come across. You see how insanely fast they are during the Battle of Loum in Gundam the Origin.

I love both franchises, but Mobile Suits are literal space magic that you really can't compare to more grounded settings.

Average weight size for Mobile suits is about 60 tons with the RX-78 being focused on. With later technologies the amount of weight becomes less with the Unicorn weighing at 40 tons. By the time around UC 0145 the Victory 2 Gundam weights at 15 Tons.

The average height for a gundam is also pretty easy to check since the IRL models are supposed to be representative of how they'd look if they were real.

Unicorn stands at about 64 feet

Grandpa Gundam stands at 59 feet

Most battlemechs max out at about 46 to 49 feet, at least that's what Google tells me
