Makes sense. The FGC seems like a perfect gathering ground for dorky guys who want to be tough but who nobody respects in real life. And they had guys like DSP and LTG as alumni.

In terms of communities where everyone involved has turned out to be an embarrassment though, I'd say the skeptic community for sure, and anything related to gamergate.

It's tough because a lot of these internet clout chasers wind up drifting from group to group over time, so even for the skeptics before that you had the atheists where some became breadtubers like Contrapoints then crossing over with Lindsay Ellis of CA, and some went to the skeptics like amazingatheist thus crossing over with Mundane Matt and Sargon who were also involved with Gamergate and thus Ethan Ralph who's also been involved with bloodsports, which crosses over with IP2 and guys like Baked Alaska who crosses over with America First.

Point is most of these groups aren't really well defined. I think CA just so happened to be an early repository for misfit narcissists who hadn't had time to spread out yet.

i thought it was mostly Brazilians and Koreans on fightcade 2.

only streamers I saw were Korean and I didn't understand what they were saying so any cringe I saw I just took as a lack of cultural understanding

Depends on the game. Certain ones have a higher demographic of one specific country (e.g. SF2 Championship Edition = Brazilians, and other spanish and middle eastern countries). Otherwise it's a mix of everything.
