Cyprus-based video game developer, Gaijin Entertainment reportedly is funding pro-Russian rebels, terrorist groups in Ukraine through embedded third-party sponsorships and ads in YouTube content.

The story was first reported by MIL.IN.UA, which noticed Gaijin’s sponsored videos at the Krupnokalibernyy Perepolokh (Large-bore Mayhem) Youtube channel with the advertisement of «War Thunder» and «Crossout» games.

The Krupnokalibernyy Perepolokh’s channel is all about range shooting, reloading ammunition, and testing seized Ukrainian combat vehicles and weapons in real world conditions.

(Lol they made it so the video doesn't appear in search now but you can still link to it)

The channel shows videos of illegal testing of various weapons that Russia supplies to its occupying forces in the occupied part of Ukraine.

In addition, the blogger released a video with an evaluation of banned by PMN-2 mine by the Ottawa Convention or the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Treaty, which could only get to the territory of Donbas from Russia.

The author of the channel does not even hide that they make some of the content with the support of such well-known brands as “War Thunder” and “Crossout”, while the logos of these games were applied to concrete blocks and vehicles at the military range in self-styled “Donetsk People’s Republic” in eastern Ukraine.

It is estimated that advertising can generate $8 for every 1,000 views, with the most viewed material racking up half a million hits. Moreover, it is known that sponsored content can bring in about $7,000 per brand integration.

Furthermore, the content itself violates a number of the rules of YouTube itself, break company rules, and have a zero-tolerance policy for content that incites violence or hatred.

The Gaijin Entertainment could not confirm or refute the details of the Mil.in.ua’s media report.

No wonder they can handout youtube sponsorships like candy, it's a money funneling scheme :stress:

i've seen stalker mods of all things peddling pro-russia/anti-ukraine shit like this which makes me wonder how common this stuff actually is

Only semi-related to the article, but a lot of Ukraine's manufacturing was in the east, including many armament factories, which was how the rebels were so well armed.

Testing weapons isn't inciting violence nor hatred. Under this interpretation, all firearm channels, all channels belonging to or promoting a nation's military, and any channel that has any pro-war (we need to stay in Iraq, we need to get involved in Libya, etc) opinions would stricken down.

War Thunder is an extremely gay pay to win game. If you look them up on the Playstation store the base game is free but every vehicle costs money. Most of the "good" vehicles cost $50 or more. From the looks of it they release tanks and shit with slightly higher stats every few weeks.
Who are the retards that play this game?

It looks like most of the vehicles you'd actually use cost 60 bucks.

Finally, some actual fucking drama that's not sjw related.

It's a good grift. I know ISIS put out a game or two but they're tards who can't put out a moneymaker so nothing happened.

What the hell...
By paying Tencent you are actively sponsoring the CCP, since all companies are state run. Same with Epic. I mean, it isn't new but hey.

Holy shit nm, this is blatantly money laundering lol.

Cool, I think I'll play War Thunder now.
Highly recommend you don't. Plenty of youtube videos on the current state of things. If you do, keep your money in your wallet but not because they might funnel it to pro-Russian folks, but because they don't deserve it.

It's not pay to win overall, but it has some very bullshit "premium" (pay money) vehicles that are often prototypes or specific variants of a vehicle that has no business fighting the vehicles it will end up fighting due to its battlerating (think tiers) and so the people who buy that shit are the people who want to have an intentionally unbalanced vehicle just to be a dick.
For the most part, you rarely see these vehicles which tells me very few people pay for them. The company has a reputation for introducing new premium vehicles that are severely OP and then nerfing them down the road so people buy the next one, so vets get burnt out.

I played this shit for years and am not surprised. Gaijin is a retarded company with nothing but money on their mind, but in true slav fashion they are terrible at what they do and are losing players. Even their sponsored players on Youtube are shitting on the game now and there's really no way you can pretend it's gotten better over time.

For anyone considering the game, it is plenty of fun early on, but keep in mind the troubles tens of hours down the road.
  • Unbalanced matchmaking system that suffers from significant power creep over the years.
    • eg ww2 tanks fighting apaches
    • cold war tanks vs ww2 tanks or modern mbts
  • People with premium vehicles will obliterate you at the worst times
  • Server performance has gotten worse over the years so client and server miscommunication will ruin a kill
    • Most notable example - Sometimes you will fire a "ghost" tank shell that does nothing to the enemy, but you have to reload while they get a free shot
  • The grind is so bad, it will take literal YEARS, even with paying THOUSANDS of dollars to get all vehicles for just two countries
  • Devs are not only aware of this, they make fun of people complaining about these issues

The list is quite long, you can find more out in the wild if you like. War Thunder is an interesting case study of how to take lightning in a bottle and throw it away

ps I never gave Gaijin any money and no one should

So it's a Cyprus-based company naming itself after Japanese words that's supporting Russian neo-imperialism? It's rather amusing.

Well, that was quick.
