We can now add The King Of Kong: A Fistful Of Quarters to the list of documentaries that have affected real-world change. Sure, it didn’t get anyone released from prison or anything, but now, more than a decade after director Seth Gordon introduced the world to modest underdog Steve Wiebe and flashy arcade-game superstar/hot sauce salesman Billy Mitchell, Wiebe has ultimately triumphed.

Variety reports that Twin Galaxies, the Iowa arcade that serves as the center of the competitive arcade-gaming universe, has stripped Mitchell of his Donkey Kong high score, after finding that he had used emulation software to achieve his famous score of 1,047,200. (Twin Galaxies requires arcade records to be set on original arcade machines.) Not only that, but it’s stripped Mitchell of all his high scores, and banned him from submitting future scores for video-game records. “With this ruling, Twin Galaxies can no longer recognize Billy Mitchell as the first million point Donkey Kong record holder,” the group writes in its announcement. “According to our findings, Steve Wiebe would be the official 1st million point record holder.” The arcade says it has contacted the Guinness Book Of World Records about stripping Mitchell of that record, too.

The ruling comes after a complaint was filedagainst Mitchell back in February, which prompted Twin Galaxies’ months-long investigation into whether Mitchell cheated. As we noted then, this is all very much after the fact, as neither Mitchell nor Wiebe are even close to the latest Donkey Kong high score, currently held by one Robbie Lakeman. Still, this must be sweet, if delayed, justice for Wiebe.

You can read Twin Galaxies’ very lengthy, endearingly nerdy full statement on the scandal and resulting investigation over at Variety.

Billy, you fuck! All those years I suffered bowel irregularity from chugging your stupid hotsauce and this is what I apsired to become? My proctologist won't return my calls thanks to you!
I still don't get the career move from vidya game to hot sauce salesman.

I liked his tie though, it distracted him from the Jesus look

Holy shit that (not a joke) extension almost got me there even though every thread has that at the end.

Either way cheating is only fair if you don't get caught.

Hey, he's still a regular dude. He probably came up with a descent recipe for hotsauce in his spare time and decided to use his primary career as a launchpad to sell it. Kind of like Jim Ross and his famous BBQ sauce.

What makes that funnier is that he tried to sue Regular Show. His lol-suit did not succeed, especially since the giant head was just a parody of him..

There is a GBF Jr. in a later episode too who is pretty much just normal sized Billy Mitchell.

He's banned now but already had the parties, the celebrations, the cash and movie options, the photo ops with 10 sexy women posing and wanting his Donkey Kock... and this is in an obscure field where he can still tell random normies that he did it* and who's going to care/look it up when his movie is still on Netflix? Cheaters really do come out ahead.

They had emulators in the 80s?

Are all his high scores banned? Even the ones from back then too? I believe the controversy is that he used an emulator many times in past years but submitted the scores in the category for games played with the original PCB. I find it hard to believe that Billy Mitchell doesn't have access to an original Donkey Kong machine.

There was a video floating around showing him switching out PCB's during an event because one was defective. And some people felt something screwy was going on because the PCB's didn't match up correctly. I can't seem to find it because Youtube is even more flooded with Billy Mitchell videos now.

His smug attitude always rubbed me the wrong way. Now the one thing that made him famous has been taken away. Yet he enjoyed it for decades so it doesn't matter so much I guess. They can take away his scores but they can't erase everything those scores got him over the years.
