I don't even hate them really I just don't understand why boomers are grumpy all the time. They were part of the most prosperous generation of Americans ever. They have untold wealth and ease of living for the rest of their long lives.

And yet whenever I have to interact with one they are fucking miserable. Just perpetually angry at everyone and everything. Constantly on a hair trigger waiting to go off on people around them, including people who are being friendly and amicable. They have everything they could ever want and it's still not enough. They can't even pretend to be happy about it. They've gained the whole world but lost their souls.
 
Boomers, while preaching the most retarded cost saving (read: your wage) initiatives inside our company, made it very clear that their positions will NOT be filled after they leave the company, the work will get distributed to other teams. This means no one else gets to enjoy the stupidly high salary while at the same time, people who earn 20-40 times less than them can get part of their old job.
I am just so confused how you can grow up in the most prosperous times in humanity, enjoy high amounts of social and economic mobility while at the same time shutting the door for anyone coming after them. It just seems intentionally malicious.
All while crying how easy young people have it today.

I think that is the problem. They saw how good it used to be, and from their perspective everything has been a long decline.

I am also grumpy on this account, but at least I don't take it out on random customer service workers.

They aren't wrong. They just have no concept of why things are declining, or what the decline even is. They just know things are worse than they were, and that they continue to get worse, and the boomers are easily led by people willing to feed them digestible ideas of who and what the problem is, while not having to actually think too hard about it, because up until they were adults they were brought up with a clear singular enemy (the Soviets/communists) and news they thought they could trust, and now everything is murkier than they thought, and they don't like it so they don't think too hard about it.

My mother was Silent Gen but her idea of making ribs was to boil the shit out of them, then cover them with vinegar, sugar and ketchup. It took my friends literally dragging me to a rib place and buying me a free meal before I realized what ribs were supposed to taste like.

Mom's idea of Chinese food was also the Chun King "worms in a can" chow mein or chow mein from the local Chinese restaurant. I hated chow mein. I didn't realize there were other kinds of Chinese food until I went off to college and went with friends to an Asian restaurant. My God, finding out that cream cheese wontons existed was like being born again. WHY WOULD YOU FEED ME GREEN SLIME WORMS MOM WHEN THERE"S CRISPY PASTRY WITH CREAM CHEESE?

Mom tried her best, so I can't complain too much. At least we had enough food and had regular sit down dinners...

Boomer here, at this point I just don't care about anyone or anything in this world anymore & can't wait to leave it behind....but in meantime how do I access tor on my phone? If I unplug my phone for a few minutes & then plug it back in will that work?

The United States government starting in the '80s and rapidly accelerating in the '90s completely sold out the boomers and the younger generations by "offshoring" loads of those technical jobs and creating favorable market conditions for other countries to outcompete domestic industries so that the almighty line would go up more.

Of course, it was boomer politicians who did that. I suppose a lot of boomers feel cheated and slighted but don't understand who, exactly, cheated them and their successors.

By constantly voting against the interests of the younger generation. The US is still a bit away from it, but in huge parts of Europe 50%+ of all voting age adults are boomers, which means any regulation that goes "We will increase retirement/pension benefits while taxing working age people more!" gets automatically passed. This of course causes a smoldering resentment with the younger generations, especially now that the economic downturn is coming.

The pension crisis is a big issue in France. So much so that even raising the age to get a pension results in massive backlash, even though the working age people can’t support the ones currently on the pension system. Despite the president remaining the same for the last few years in France, they’ve gone through a lot of prime ministers over this issue in particular.
 
My dad said I have to tell you "hippie fags" to get off our lawn or he will cut down my internet. I agree with you (parents just don't understand!) but you need to leave now because I don't have anywhere else to live. It must be the fault of boomers like my dad but whatever.

Lack of any meaning likely does this.

Many of them, for all the advantages, never did anything that worthwhile. Most of them floated through life doing what was expected like getting married and having kids while hating their spouse and feeling their children robbed them of their youth. Even if they did the party phase forever, they would still be unhappy as they never did anything meaningful. Godless generation driven by complete self-interest really does end with a hollow feeling. Not helping is them being on the receiving end of hatred, with their kids mostly viewing them as failures and really the nation as a whole bubbling over and making them the problem, even if it is earned.

This also follows @Not A Cat Person. Boomers sold themselves on being the generation to change the world, correct all the evils of their outdated, bigoted parents. Rather than seeing the world become a Bruce Springsteen/Beetles paradise, they have been watching a full-on decline for decades. They can never consider that the bigots of the past may have been right as their rebellious daddy TV tells them otherwise, so they roll in the shit and allow their nations to be conquered just to prove a point to people long dead. While he was speaking on Gen X, Synthcool had it right when he labeled them as “never really put much thought into politics, or stopping corporate greed. Nah, I’ll just do my vague Jack McCoy impression to OWN my Republican grandparents.” Boomers are pure rebellion and “Fuck the man” (regardless of political leanings) with no substance to actually build anything. It has left them perpetually angry and cynical at the world as their little rebellion amounts to nothing positive and just stripped away the cultural cohesion, social trust, community, etc. they grew up under.
