You know, it's funny, a lot of boomers got laid off due to Ai and chose to retire/pension next.

Now the tech industry, who relied on those boomers, just cannot seem to get them back.

"Buh buh huh- you are the only one who has 20y experience in our archaic, out of date software! We tried putting out announcements for new hires but nobody has that experience! Please come back!"

A lot of them just said "fuck it" and went straight into pensions and now there's HUGE gaps.

Who would have thought a boomer who refused to train anyone and works in a software obsoletes 20y ago would retire 12y earlier and cannot be replaced?!

Early 1980s here, and I, too, share the similar frustration of being in a transitional period between generations.

In my opinion if you are on the cusp you can just pick which one you identify with. I know a few people born in 1981/82 and they all seem so much more gen x than millennial. If you were upset when Kurt Cobain died, spent most to all of your k-12 years in the 20th century, gave a shit about the OJ trial you're more gen x.

However, as far as those born in 1960-1964, you are boomer. And 1965-1971 are barely gen x, more spiritually boomer. They all tend to have similar characteristics and played life on easy mode and are pissed off at everyone else now.

I am currently employed by the worst fucking boomer I have ever encountered. He has no introspection whatsoever, but is also convinced of his own intelligence. He's currently sold on the idea that the fashion accessory company he runs needs to incorporate as much AI as possible, because he'll be "left behind" otherwise. He consults ChatGPT on every decision he makes, and is entirely deferential to all of it's opinions (I think AI is the only thing he can recognize as being smarter than he is). He recently changed the sizes of some of our accessories on ChatGPT's recommendation. When we started getting returns from customers whose "size regular" products were way too small, he initially refused to change the sizes back and insisted that "customers are just getting fatter". It took weeks to get him to fix this issue, and even them it was only because his wife pestered him into it.

The man is also obsessed with Donald Trump, and constantly wanders into my workspace to pontificate on how the president is responsible for literally everything that goes wrong in our country. Rumors of Argentina cheating at Fifa? Trump paid them to do it. Price of precious metals going up? It's a scheme by Trump to enrich himself. Also Trump is a secret socialist, somehow. None of his political takes make any fucking sense, but we all have to sit there and listen to him read bizarre AI-generated drivel for hours at a time because he literally refuses to stop. My older coworker even mentioned to him that people get annoyed by the constant politisperging, but my boss insists that if he doesn't give us "the facts", we'll fall for "propaganda". So it's just his moral duty to bloviate at us, apparently.

I just want to do my job.

I know that living in an abusive and traumatic for most or all of your childhood will leave an impact on most people. But it’s alien to me how many boomers just continue to carry on the same abusive behaviors in their own families.

And they can acknowledge that their parents did it to them. But once you ask them why they do what they do to family members, it’s like they get angry that they have to reset the NPC mode and justify it with “that’s how it’s always been.”

I’ve known a handful of boomers that were able to realize that acting like an asshole pushes people away. But most of them can’t seem to see the cause and effect.

Unrelated but also; the amount of boomers that find something to complain about at every restaurant that they go to, regardless of if they pay for it themselves or not, and who invites them.
There’s too much food, but they don’t want to bring it home with them. There’s too little food for the price. They only like 2-3 things at the buffet, but keep going back to it because they put raisins in their potato salad and other places don’t. They want to go out to eat, but they can’t figure out why they have no room in their fridge or freezer from weekly grocery shopping for a family. Even though it’s now just 1-2 people in the house.

I actually think one of the reasons Trump won in 2024 was because the left screeched about every move he made and every move he didn't, and it made moderates check tf out because they didn't want to be on team raving lunatic. But that's for another thread.

Recently bought a ex-boomer house. Nothing was maintained properly, everything either painted over, boarded over etc.

For example we're fixing the floor in one room, beautiful parquet underneath the carpet, but they used rubber underlay and effectively sealed in all the moisture into the wood and rotted some bits.

The reason why they covered it up? The concrete underneath had cracked, so rather than fix it they added double layers of underlay in places to """even out""" the floor. Then their """solution""" ended up creating even more work down the line.

My father even suggested carpeting over it as well to avoid the hassle. Wtf is wrong with these people? They can't do a proper job.

My 79 y/o Dad has been at my house for 47 days. I hope he goes to my sister's at the end of this month. I really didn't think my entire summer would be darkened by his presence in my home. He pooped his pants the other day and rinsed them out in the bathroom sink. He then proceeded to carry them out of the bathroom and try to present them to me to deal with. I shouted at him to "Throw them in the trash"! He appeared confused by this demand. He just stood there for a moment and I could tell he didn't want to part with them. Maybe they had some sort of sentimental value? Maybe he's just that much of a cheapskate that it would be like throwing away money (approximately $1.47) to him? There was no way in hell I was going to deal with that. Most people who aren't boomers in that shitty situation would have quietly just thrown them in the trash in the bathroom then thrown that trash bag out in the outside bin. Most people would be embarrassed about pooping their pants and would quietly get rid of the evidence. I guess boomers are built kind of different.

Hey, your Dad has dementia (or some disorder causing neurological degradation). Boomers seem to get it at a higher rates than their parents did, for living unhealthier lives.
This isn't normal boomer behavior/insanity, this is dementia (or similar). I know someone who was in her 60s who had similar behavior and it was a warning sign for what it was. She had small something capillary damage or something like that from a combination of high blood pressure, high blood sugar/prediabetes, liver cirrhosis, etc. Its similar to dementia. This is exactly the behavior she had, this isn't a boomerism, your Dad is just *BARELY* a boomer being born in 1947. My grandma is 90, and her cognition is better than that, some people don't get things like dementia, just normal aging decline.

Please urge your father to get checked out neurologically, and try to make sure someone else goes with him, people with dementia will ignore information told to them and just replace it with what they feel like, like an LLM hallucinating. He may have a UTI if he's pooing himself or some sort of infection, thats what caused the 60yo lady I know to spiral cognitively, UTIs/infections cause confusion in people who are older. The friend I have routinely misconstrued his Mom's dementia behavior with her boomer behavior, I don't want that to happen to others.

Its not even the foreign doctors causing it, regular doctors operate in the same way.
That 60yo lady I mentioned before was prescribed some medication that gave her a prolactinoma, then another doctor prescribed her something for the prolactinoma, which most likely interfered with her other medication and fatty liver, (since doctors don't communicate with each other over conditions and medications and routinely prescribe contradicting medications to treat symptoms of other medications,) and that medication gave her liver cirrhosis. Few years down the road after slow cognitive decline from her issues she got a UTI and experienced sudden confusion, the doctor wouldn't admit her to the ER despite her needing constant supervision/care all of a sudden (from confusion brought on by the UTI) and so instead her psychiatrist admitted her, and instead of treating her for her UTI and cirrhosis, he prescribed her LITHIUM to a liver cirhossed patient despite us telling him it would kill her, for "delirium from mood disorder" or something, and because her liver was dead and couldn't filter out the lithium, it gave her lithium toxicity, almost fatal. Anyway, guess she was getting damage to her brain capillaries for years and all of this amplified that from being a slow decline into a spiraling amount of brain damage. She never recovered and is now waiting for death in a confused state that has gotten worse in the span of 8 months. Its like watching someone turn into a zombie where you're left questioning how much of the person remains and if they're suffering or what they remember of you and the memories you shared.

But yeah, the medical industry is horrible, somehow artificially keeping these boomers alive and simultaneously destroying them, its like the God Emperor on his throne, slowly decaying and kept alive by burning hundred of billions of psykers while also slowly being corrupted into an incoherent mass of energy with scattered consciousness, wondering how much of a person is left inside it.
The boomer is full of medical ailments from their hedonistic narcissistic lifestyles, and the medical industry is keeping them alive and giving them new conditions like nurgle giving the gift of numbness and unlife as he infects his followers with every condition he can come up with. This probably sounds horrible to some of you but I really don't care deeply enough to have him see specialists and figure out what's specifically wrong and to try to correct it. He's already past life expectancy. He's put me through a lot and I'm still dealing with a lot from him. It's best to just let nature take its course.

Thats pretty much the same opinion my friend had, he lived with his Mom though so when her health problems got to a head he still had to deal with them, even if he took the warning his Mom would have probably fought him tooth and nail about it and denied there was an issue till she lost the ability to speak entirely. If you're in a situation where you don't have to have contact with him I wouldn't take that responsibility on either, its not really your problem. Its just unfortunate that these boomers have tanked their health and their lifestyle is finally catching up to them in their 60s. I know another young boomer who got Lung cancer because she smoked a pack a day and never wore a respirator when dealing with cleaning and oil paint fumes despite being told to.

A lot of soyennials may not be on a better track, you hear a lot of people whine about "back pain" and "knee pain" in their 40s like its normal (barring things like military service or decades of construction work). I expect similar health from them when they hit 60 but unlike with the boomers they won't have government assistance or kids to take care of them or infinite wealth for medical treatment. The zoomers aren't better either, lot of them take hormones, either roids or estrogen, the rest are morbidly obese or addicted to various drugs, be it thc vapes, nicotine, psychiatrics meds, etc. and many of them are obese already like their parents.

Let boomers be a warning to take care of your own health.

Boomer traffic is real. I have to drive past a few senior living facilities on the way up and back from work on a one lane road. It's brutal.

Now with shitty chink electric mobility scooters for a few hundred dollars, even boomers in third world shitholes can now drive in 60-80mph highways with their 20mph electric scooters.
