I’ve seen it firsthand. I had to get a BS and MS plus an MBA to get my foot in the door in the current globohomocorp I’m at now and this was about 15 years ago. Meanwhile, for a latina who was hired with me, they rolled out the red carpet for her right away. I mean like leadership track training, lunch with the CXOs, mentorships, they were talking promotions right off the bat within a month before she even got assigned her first project.

She assumed the same was happening with me and would ask me how my lunch was with the CFO or if we could partner up for this leadership track training. She seemed genuinely puzzled that I never got those opportunities. She was nice, she even put in a good word for me, to be invited to these things that were offered her. Her recommendations went in one ear and out the other with HR and the CXOs.

Finally I had to spell it out for her that I was a white guy and that these opportunities would not be given to me. She seemed shocked by this. She prided herself by thinking she was not a diversity hire and she thought that just by saying that, that was good enough.

We drifted apart shortly after that and for all the investment in time and money for her, she left a couple years later. Totally wasted on this diversity hire while all the other more qualified white guys were ignored.

What bothers me is that white people will go out of their way to hire DEIs, we even have incentives and grants for DEIs, while you get penalties and even slapped with fines if you refuse to hire.

A lot of these DEIs are "people we wanna fuck" or "people who will deal least damage" hires.

Yea a lot of boomers grew up in a high trust, American internet where there were no scams and these services were legitimately curated.

It's like, they grew up in an era when people cared and they were sold this idea that government and institutions want their best. So when they see a deal too good to be true, they don't think critically, their mind just goes to those times when stuff was nice and things were good, and they rush to take the deal.

It's not their fault; they genuinely grew in a high trust society, and while everyone else was slowly boiling, they sat in their boomer neighborhoods away from the boiling water and only saww what the tv showed them. And now, the water us boiling and they simply can't understand why the jeet isn't a honest living illegal immigrant "Apu" but instead cheats and schemes.

I'm not extorting you, the Federal Government is. If I just decided to quit collecting my Social Security, you would still have to pay part of your paycheck into it.

I "get to go to the doctor for free" because the government forced me to enroll in Medicare the day I started collecting Social Security. In reality, it's not free; Medicare Part A and Part B both cost a monthly premium, and have co-pays.

I empathize with you and I was not happy about the 50+ years that the government stole part of my paycheck, but the government owes me and everyone else who paid into it that money. Unlike the Illegals and the welfare moochers, I worked for over 50 years, served my country for 20, and probably paid more in income taxes and property taxes than some people make.

I was not old enough to vote any of this nonsense into law, and I was on board back in the early 2000s when then president Bush wanted to enable some people to opt out of a portion of their Social Security so that they could invest it in some sort of private retirement account.

Minor PL but I have a temp job where I only get work from time to time and my shifts are frequently cancelled last minute or shift hours are completely changed. I only do it for an extra bit of money but over time I got pretty fed up of the constant unreliability and flakiness. The temping agency doesn't give me enough hours to actually give that much of a shit anyhow. The temp agency recently assigned me to a particularly establishment that basically functions as a daycare for affluent middle aged couples and boomers. Unlike most locations I've worked at over the last year or two, the patrons that frequent there were generous with tips and treated waiting staff like actual humans. Unfortunately, I didn't have the same pleasant experience this time around. I was surprised and disappointed with how rude and entitled the guests were towards the waiting staff this year. The wealthy customers expected waiters to cater their every whim but acted inconvenienced if a busy waiter politely told them that they'd come in a few minutes later. No expressions of gratitude were shown either.

The worst offenders were the Boomer men over 70 and the middle-aged women. The 70-something-year-old men were bad-tempered and took it out on waiters and managers by barking orders at them. I dealt with an old fart who demanded to know why his glass of whiskey wasn't filled to the brim and got pissy when told it'd cost extra to have a double shot. I'm pretty sure that's how whiskey is initially served in bars and restaurants. The waiters don't get to decide that. The middle-aged women were just as bad, if not worse. They snapped at the underpaid waiters for minor mistakes or told them to "get lost" to their faces. I had to fight the urge not to retort to their rudeness and couldn't help but fantasize about pouring their drinks over the disrespectful, decrepit fossils and nasty, disrespectful bitches. Maybe their own personal lives are miserable for some unrelated reason, so they feel entitled to take it out on service workers they view as beneath them. I can imagine their own adult children generally keep their distance from them if they generally behave like that. If I'm still with that temp agency next year, I hope to God that the next customers are more civilized than the ones this year because I don't get enough hours to deal with entitled behaviour.

Anyways, my own tangent is how helpless able bodied boomers can be when they want something done but don’t want to do it themselves. It amazes me that they sit there and call the younger generations lazy, often times have more money than the younger generations to fix their problems if they want to do it, but act dumb over mundane things like having to wait for food to cook a little longer.
My grandmother acted like a NPC without a guideline the other day when her daughter had her dinner cooking in the slow cooker, and she couldn’t just eat it for lunch when she wanted to. How have you existed this long as a human?
Either wait, find something else to eat, or go out to get something to eat. Children learn this at young ages.

My late grandpa, husband of said grandma, had a still living fellow boomer friend who’s a war veteran with only one leg, and he lives alone. Even with the possibility of a home health aide helping him out through out the week sometimes, I truly believe that he isn’t as helpless as my grandma portrays herself to be.
