I began hating boomers when I was 19 and worked for one. She was usually pretty nice but one day she started rambling on about the 60s and how awesome they were, good drugs, lots of sex, then she says to me "But you can't do any of that now. Too bad for you." Yeah that's right, because you had free love and weed and gave us crack and AIDS and broken homes as a result. Then they run around talking about how "they changed the world!" and pat themselves on the back while giving the finger to everyone younger.
They will not give up power until every single one of them dies.
The boomers that loved the 60s were the ones that got a free ride to college with mom and pops money instead of being sent to the other side of the world to be involved in the war. They had everything handed to them on a silver platter while the mocked the less fortunate who went overseas to fight. They still have the gall to run their mouths on foreign policy despite never having to experience the consequences. Not to mention how they all claim they went Woodstock and they fought the power, or how they shagged everything under the sun and abused every substance known to man. The boomers that went to Vietnam should have been the ones to run for office and make changes, but unfortunately they didn't have connections or money or influence and that was one of the reasons they went.

You are the extorter. You are the majority voting block that is incentivizing political parties that compete for your scum generations votes to enact paper laws to extort, hyper inflate currency and expand public credit, import boat loads of "migrants" to dilute the debt to pay for your "entitlement" because you scum, stupid like a piece of bread paid for 40 years into ponzi schemes that were already bankrupt 40 fucking years ago. So you keep voooting the polity scum into power, to fill yours and their pockets as well at the non-guaranteeable promise that you get something out "because you wörked". You are the reason that the state is failing, you are the reason that the field mercenaries recruitment trend is down, average age going hard toward 58 and the only ones signing up are stupid women, ability to enforce paper law diminishing with every day

Don't expect mercy when sometimes, optimistically between 2034 - 2044 it has become so irrational to be part of the active population and extreme rational to just rob and kill BoomerX. Each and everyone of you dying is liabilities off the ledger of the future.
In 1983 when I was 22 years old, the people of my parent's generation, and the news, were all telling me that by the time I got to be 65, Social Security would be out of money. It was then that I started saving money in the event that it turned out to be true.

In 2026 I'm now 65 and Social Security is still paying out (although, like the rest of the government they're robbing Peter to pay Paul to do so).

Are all the people in this thread who are telling me that I'm stealing by collecting Social Security telling me that if Social Security is still around when they turn 65 that they are not going to collect?

Your generation is such a band of fucking retards. What do you think is being "paid out" you goddamn fucking idiot!!!! Yes, retard, its debt liquidity, uncovered fucking debt liquidity, monetary communist inflation that somebody else in the future is supposed to cover so you bastard generation can eat. I say, you and frankly speaking everyone over 50 already consumed their life and it's morally justified to murder you and everyone in your age range

They're just childish. They somehow have the sense they are super adults, smarter and better than their children that they didnt want, while every single facet of their world has gotten worse. They are the retarded child generation along with gen X. Somehow they just didn't learn how to be adults.

I likely won't collect but im in the advantageous position of having an absurdly good pension.

I won't fault anyone for taking cash they are entitled to. I would like to see it end though.

You're not even a boomer you're gen jones. Your formative years were the energy crisis and high interest rates. I take my previous post back.

Why would you claim to be a boomer and defend them?

The Baby Boomer generation is usually defined as 1946 - 1964. That said, someone born in 1961 would have had a different life then someone born in 1948 (as well as from a different country, who thinks an Indian born in that period had the same upbringing and life as an American?). Generations are example of something that are objectively socially constructed.

I'm not defending boomers, I'm defending myself against those who think that I am not entitled to the money that was deducted from every paycheck of mine for the past 50+ years, and somehow have convinced themselves that I'm stealing.

I'm not a boomer and I hate them as much as the people in this thread, though for mostly different reasons. I have less in common with a person born in 1946 than I do with most of the people in this thread.

What period do you consider Boomers to be born in?

Uh huh, and gen Y are millennials nowadays. Gen jones were a thing until they got shoved in with the boomers and gen Y was a thing until they got shoved in with millennials. It's not like there is a committee of generations that lays down the law.

A boomer would say not all boomers are like that. I fought the system man, I deserve it. Jean Valjean says why leave money on the table? Different psychologies.

Objectively socially constructed? What does that even mean? 1000045284.jpg

Generation names are just a shorthand for speaking about specific demographics. Complaining about American/Canadian boomers isn't the same as old people in other countries typically because they had different material conditions and culture shaping them. I think that's what people mean when they point out that generational labels are kind of made up. Especially since they're honestly a bit too broad at times and fuzzy around the edges.

A lot of people's differences when it comes to experiences growing up really rely on technological changes and other such things that change more rapidly than they did a hundred or so years ago. Which is why containing age demographics into labelled generations sort of became a thing.

Boomers and Gen X are largely a similar group insofar as the easy economy they grew up in. Generation monikers get weird starting in the middle of the millennials when you get the kids reaching adulthood into a chain of once-per decade economic crashes and social fuckery that destroyed relationship dynamics and communities. By mid 90's, you've got them coming of age with #metoo, a few years later and it's full TDS, a few years later and it's covid madness. Not to mention the infinite jeets that became prominent in annihilating middle class jobs starting around the mid 10's.

It's also further muddied because prior to about Trump's first term the effect of all this was felt differently in different areas of the country. Typically rural areas or just ones that aren't metropolitan or trendy get hit with the effects of things like housing or job issues last.

Also, most all of our problems with this shit is caused by immigration and browns. Those market crashes? The dot com burst because jeets were literally trying to burst in and justify being brought over for tech jobs and fucked everything up. The housing market? Retard Dubya ushered in forcing banks to loosen restrictions for who qualified for housing loans so that more minorities could get houses. Turns out those minorities couldn't fucking pay those loans back!

They are not a largely similar group. Boomers had a stay at home mother and their parents didn't divorce. Xers had divorced parents and were made to roam and cared for themselves. Their parents neglected them. If they were early xers and started investing early they got wiped out in the '89 and if they were trailing xers they got wiped out in the dot com bubble and then again in 2008.

Only some boomers had stay at home mothers. Even when more people in history could afford that sort of life during the late 40s to early 60s, that doesn't mean the majority of families did. A lot of stay at home mothers also still did jobs within the home and didn't spend all the time paying attention to the children. I really despise this misconception.

I can't find any nice charts but I did find an LA times article that states: "Between 1950 and 1970, the proportion of wives with paid jobs rose from 23% to 39%. By 1995, it was 61%"

I'd call 61%-77% the majority.

Taking care of a household without appliances is a full time job. Who do you think watched the kids? Before daycare for people who couldnt afford a nanny? Did the man bring him to work?

Unless "we" are talking about BoomerX (anybody born between the 1940s - 1980) born in a 20th century socialist literal dictatorship (no matter if Eastern Block, Spain, Greece, most of SEA, large parts of SA, practically all of Africa), they are the same; they vooted, democracy, there is nobody else to blame but the majority vooting blocks that legitimated for nearly a century political parties and socialist ponzi games.
