An underappreciated aspect of the loss of third spaces a lot of people talk about, is that many community events and clubs were organized and maintained by middle aged and old people who were either stay at home mothers whose kids were old enough to look after themselves, early retirees, and retirees who spent their time on the community now that they didn't work.

My mother in law loves our children and is involved in their life. My parents are the boomers described in this quote. I’ve stopped updating them on what my kids are doing and they don’t ask. They do talk about how they’re proud grandparents on their Boomerbook account but if I were to ask what their grandchildren’s names are, I’d say it’s 50/50 that they’d know them all.

Definitely. This is what I mean when I say community is dead. When I used to listen to my boomer family talk, it was always about how their elders were doing these events, helping with their neighbors and local workers, or as simple as watching the kids in the neighborhood. That's all gone.

This remind me we were doing tree trimming and we told the guy there was a $250 disposal fee. Look, the city doesn't let us take the waste to them for free. We have to go pay A $100 fee to dump it off. And also plus gas plus labor.
Easily less than $250k if you go back to the early 90's. Might not be a prime location or a premium home but it was doable.
One of the most beautiful parts of Texas. The home doesn't look too shabby but $500k for 1340sq ft on two acres is insanity.Sometimes you have to explain things chapter and verse to retards. Our city does a great job with refuse pickup but you cannot use a commercial tree service and have the city pickup the woodpile for free. $300 charge. You either pay the contractor or the city.
It’s a shame because all I need is 1300-1500 sq ft and 20-30 acres and I’d be set for life.
Boomers will go through hell and high water to never pay you the fee, but will go through some lunatic methodology and go insane from it to only spend their $250 "savings" in the end doing it themselves. Boomer financing and savings is truly something else.
