Said architecture professor was kvetching about how 'all old buildings are considered beautiful by those plebs, they will looove brutalism in a few years' and how ugly, soulless and dangerous (can't let Germans have a positive relationship with their past now, can we?) these new buildings are and how much more 'real' and truly beautiful Stuttgart is.

Of course, Stuttgart is widely considered the ugliest German city by normal people. Even the mining towns like Gelsenkirchen where designed with a working class, honest charm. There is beauty in their ruggedness and simpleness. Stuttgart on the other hand became a modernist playground and thus became a soulless disaster on par with Brasilia.
