Okay I'll stop talking BUT ALSO he avoided the trap of a lot of other superhero movies fall into of making the "bad spidey" more appealing than the regular character, instead actually showing how lame ppl like this really are okay off my soapbox !

While doing research for the "Hero's Journey" it was so funny to see people complain about "women protagonists" and not realize their critiques were of the Hero's Journey itself, which only became "apparent" "silly" & "unbelievable" once it was Rey instead of Luke doing it

My issue with this take is no one who opposes girl bossing is an elon fan. Like the people who hate girl bosses in no way shape or form love the men capitalist. Like the person targeted by this doesn't exist

I used to bring my copy of The Hobbit to sleepovers and everyone let me know they thought that was weird of me and hated it so yeah, I think I'm going to love the LOTR show

The Scorsese/Marvel "discourse" distracts us from talking about how only 13% of films in 2019 were directed by women (a figure that's barely moved in 20 years) comicbook or not !!!

Maggie Mae Fish hasnt gotten a lot of attention but her takes are really dumb. I was introduced to her via the "Hero's Journey is Bullshit" video, which cites the wrong definition as the opening salvo. Her channel is full of reddit humor and consoomer video essays that cite OTHER video essays instead of, yknow, books. Turns out the reason why she hates the hero's journey is she views the monomyth as sexist because it's not realistic to women and because she wants to defend the sequel trilogy:
> While doing research for the "Hero's Journey" it was so funny to see people complain about "women protagonists" and not realize their critiques were of the Hero's Journey itself, which only became "apparent" "silly" & "unbelievable" once it was Rey instead of Luke doing it
And people did defend her on this but it's funny to see people easily point out that it's just making excuses to consume the slop
> Sounds like cope
> People had been making fun of Luke's arc for literally decades before Rey. I remember people making jokes about it in the 1990s. I think this is simply a case of social media bias. You seem to think the whole world is your Twitter feed.
> POV zero media literacy
> Tell me you don't understand the hero's journey without telling me you don't understand the hero's journey. It's slightly more nuanced than "defeat bad guy and save the world."
> what things did Luke and Rey both do that only Rey was criticized for?
Her take is batshit bonkers. So Rey:
-being able to fight people easily
-being able to fly a ship and shoot easily
-defeating the main villain mentally
-doing the mind trick
-defeating the villain physically
-using the force multiple times
All within the first film, with no mentor, is exactly the same as:
-being beaten up by an arab
-not fighting the main villain until the second movie and being beaten
-having to get saved by other characters like ben and hand (therefore giving them more purpose than fweinds)
-using the force once in your first movie as the culmination of the beginning of an arc
-not being able to lift shit in the second movie and giving into despair
-being beaten up by a wampa
-actually being trained albeit briefly by your mentor
-but being able to shoot and fly (which is set up in dialogue anyway)
It's amazing HOW dishonest you can be on youtube when there's no one there to critique you. As much as I hate twitter at the very least her takes were given significantly more pushback than "oh yes auter theory and character development and the monomyth isnt real because joseph campbell didnt say trans rights"

Between
Tom Nicholas and Shaun is "let's whine about transphobia RIGHT AFTER mermaids got caught grooming" some sort of election strategy the tories decided to pay them to do? Does Liz Truss own curiosity stream?
