But beyond just being intellectually dishonest and taking the jokes of their perceived opposition literally, I think I figured out why so many lefty types are confounded by the Will Stancil Show and rightwing effort-posting in general.

They believe in the Labor Theory of Value, consciously or not, so they assume that the amount of effort someone puts into something must equal their emotional attachment. Youcis MUST be obsessed with him - sexually or otherwise; online right wingers MUST have blistering hatred inside of them to spend time spending time on this thing I don't agree with - not realizing that the effort put in is part of the joke and is never equivalent to the amount of emotional investment the poster actually has.

The entire conceit of the show is that Will Stancil is a pasty dork with an overblown ego, so the show, therefore, exaggerates his the real parts of his life into comical absurdity as a reflection of his ego while occasionally dipping into broader culture, but it always come back to Stancil. That's it, no psychoanalysis necessary.

The funny part is that these internet leftists and their supporters will do the inverse of rightwing effortposters, believing that their social media posting and protesting MUST be important because they felt so strongly about it, despite putting in next to no real world effort and so in turn having no real impact on the world. That's why they'll consider putting blacks in kids cartoons and gay sex as real political action with an real effect on the universe.
