Bug-Out Pack / Go Bags / Emergency Kit - Refinement of the 'shit got real' stash

So I've kept a bug-out bag in my car for a few years now. Generally nothing more than regular preparedness, but it has shrank and swelled over time depending on life stress, my personal sense of security, finances, etc.

I've got my knives, emergency food and water, thermal kit, blankets, survival and navigation tools, and everything else you'd typically gather. I know from experience however that everything can be improved upon.

I'm also thinking of making a secondary kit for home, which can be grabbed in a heartbeat. I'm already up on my canned and dry goods, so I'd like this thread to be on the mobile goods of possible (but any discussion is welcome.)

As a side note, finding radios and torches with reliable dynamos (at least in Bongland) is proving more difficult than anticipated.

If you know any first aid, even basic bandaging and wound care, I'd suggest getting a small first aid kit. Better to have it and not need it than the other way around.

experience is the best teacher. Strap a backpack on with a lot of weight and see how far you can get, first. Then see what you feel you should have brought, like extra socks or more/less layers. Then simply walk back. In the event of a disaster, you won't get a chance to experiment.

but as for like really dire emergency supplies, even a weapon, I have no idea. But do make sure the basics are covered first. Like if your shoes are uncomfortable or chafe, that is going to be an incredibly uncomfortable journey.

Not sure what you already have that falls under "survival and navigation tools," but I would consider these items if you don't have them:

Small stainless steel canteen that can withstand fire

Since you're in Bongland and probable don't have a gun for hunting; snare wire. You get a chance for a good meal while expending no energy after you set the snare trap for a rabbit.
